🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

I often cry at the carols on the Christmas Morning service. Away in a Manger has permanently damaged my hormones since DS1's very post-natal first Christmas when I'd only been home a couple of days. The thought of little Lord Jesus having no crib for a bed was far more than my mangled body and hormonal soup could tolerate Grin

Anyone else noticing an overlap in people with a lot to say about the fuel blip and a tendancy to share #staythefuckathome memes?

No, this is my only social media, really. So I am in an AD bubble Smile.

Worldgonecrazy · 25/09/2021 16:31

I’m in an AD social media bubble too.

It feels very weird when I meet dementoring in the wild. I feel very sorry for people who are still terrified of Covid but completely unawares of all the other things that are far more likely to kill them.

My butcher took his wife out for lunch last week in Wales still masks until seated and table service in hospitality. One woman from England in the queue behind him said he and all Welsh were stupid she wouldn't wear a mask, her husband on the other hand did because he was vulnerable. 🙄

Good grief what an idiot. Kids get sick more so this year because they've been locked up so much

smallandimperfectlyformed · 26/09/2021 18:00

That is an awful illustration. I am rapidly losing whatever remaining sympathy I had for people who were worried about their kids going back to school, just like that twit from Safer Schools for All who is planning on a school strike in October. She and her cohorts can strike all they want, as long as my kids aren't unwell they will actually be at school!

ISaySteadyOn · 26/09/2021 18:23

I couldn't bear to look tbh. I have had a nice normal boring day and I don't want anything to ruin it. My children will def be in school. They need it. And if schools shut again, I will fight hard for them to go in as they cannot do online learning. They just can't.

MrsEWeatherwax · 26/09/2021 18:26

That is a dreadful illustration, they aren’t going to fucking war, it’s so disrespectful to the people who did die in the war.
Not sure how mental health services are going to cope when this is all over.
People has lost all sense of risk/danger. Added to the people stockpiling fucking fuel.
The UK is going to hell in a handcart.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/09/2021 18:48

Truth.

The disrespect to those who died in the war was my first thought too. (And those who survived - I've often wondered how they managed when they then watched their own children go off to fight in WW2 - that must have been heartbreaking for them.)
MrsDeaconClaybourne · 26/09/2021 21:45

It really upset me. I was far more worried about my DC's mental and physical health when they were isolated during lockdowns and prevented from doing their usual activities.

I work in a school too.

How can this kind of tripe still be created and shared out there???
It's a year since all children regained access to school. The chances of a child without serious underlying issues being seriously ill or dying is very minimal. In 18m many more children have died in far more preventable circumstances. And yes it's seriously disrespectful to the real horrors that people faced in war.

As the lowest in the pecking order by year group, parental occupation and social independence, while DS2 is a far happier child again, at 8, he still has much less social confidence than he did at 6 when his world was reduced to his house, parents, sibling (with ANs) and worksheets. DS1 is superficially happy at home, but it damages his ability to cope with a busy, complex, sensory world. There's year 6 SATs/ transition anxiety going on and I always knew that this would arise as it was y2 that exposed his coping limits, but having had a heavily disrupted y4 and y5 where he could hide from the world for prolonged periods is no way to learn how to function in the world.

The author of the tweet is a children's illustrator as well. Happy to profit from children but no understanding of their needs.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 27/09/2021 11:33

Taswama considering how some paediatricians, teachers and educational professionals have behaved over the last year this doesn't surprise me that much. It saddens me though!

Add in the mute children's charities that said nothing about what was inevitably going on behind closed doors in lockdown. But hey, children need to be resiliant. Hmm
OP posts:
smallandimperfectlyformed · 27/09/2021 12:46

Yes let's go on and on about how children are resilient so we can justify turning their lived upside down continually. I still haven't forgiven the church either. Feeling more annoyed today than I have in a while (possibly because I have my period and am overdrawn!!).

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 28/09/2021 09:11

Hm

The Guardian seems to have stopped it’s covid dashboard.

And yet they’re still reporting ‘cases’ and ‘deaths’ but comparing the figures to the previous day’s, rather than seven days previously which is what the dashboard did.

I mean at one level I suppose it’s good that they’re not splashing the figures around any more. But the way they’re doing it now feels like it’s open to more… varied interpretations.

Worldgonecrazy · 28/09/2021 09:14

Yup! The difference between Monday and Wednesday figures could be interpreted in an interesting manner…..

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 28/09/2021 12:48

Hm Part II

It's reappeared again now.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/09/2021 17:58

Looking at the maps for my area... it looks like the % vaccinated is inversely proportional to the number of cases. Grin

A couple of possibilities. The communities that are less engaged with vaccination are probably less engaged with testing and can't afford to keep losing a couple of days for PCRs and can't ride it out WFH. Or improved immunity from a generally higher rate of cases all the way through rendering vaccination rates less influential.

OP posts:
Taswama · 28/09/2021 21:05

So where there is a higher vaccination rate there are also more cases? Either of your theories make sense.

I do wonder if the rumoured charging for LFTs will affect the rate of testing. Our work used to give them away but you had to sign your name in blood first. Nowadays they are just piled up and anyone can help themselves as they have loads left over.

Lostinacloud · 30/09/2021 09:35

Resist the vaccine passports with all you have!!

I haven’t been on here for ages and have been struggling a lot with what’s going on in France over here where I currently live due to my DH’s job.

I had covid last year and for me it was no more than a 3 day mild cold and headache illness. For quite a long time I didn’t really want to be vaccinated and felt angry that natural immunity wasn’t recognised. However, after an awful episode at Calais where a french border officer basically told me my dirty unvaccinated self wasn’t allowed to leave the country to visit my family in England and also because I basically couldn’t participate in any normal life anymore because of the vaccine passport I extremely reluctantly got one dose, which in Europe counts as fully vaccinated. I felt forced to be vaccinated and find the whole thing wholly unethical and surely illegal.

Please note I am not anti vax and i am happy for anyone who feels they will be protected to of course go and get the vaccination. However, I am pro choice and do not believe every citizen of the world is being given much of a choice right now.

My main reason for posting today is to warn you of what is to come if people of the U.K. don’t resist the vaccine passports with everything they have.

From today, 2 of my DC who are aged between 12-16 are no longer welcome in society. The vaccine passport now applies to everyone 12 years and over and apart from still being allowed at school (for the moment) we can no longer go to restaurants, cafes or museums or cinemas or theatres. We can’t go on long distance trains or coaches or stay at a leisure complex, they can’t do go ape, swimming, go to a trampoline park etc unless they are vaccinated or have an uncomfortable covid test at a pharmacy which lasts 72 hours. Self tests are not recognised in France.
But worst of all, is that they can no longer attend their sports clubs outside of school. They can’t go to football or rugby or swimming or attend a gym or fitness class and I am beyond disgusted and angry at this.

Like many parents, I would prefer to wait before vaccinating my young teens and as they have also had covid and suffered no long term consequence, the subsequent risk of vaccine side effects is higher for them than covid, no matter how rare the serious risks may be.

I think some people in the uk think it will never happen there but there is no doubt in my mind that this is where it’s leading. It started the same here - “no plans for vaccine passports” then “vaccine passports will not apply to everyday life only large events” “then vaccine passports apply to basically everywhere and after a 2 month grace period will also include teens”.

In what world is any of this ok? Putting aside the glaringly obvious fact that vaccinated people still catch and spread covid and so just wtf is the point of vaccine passports as part of the health response, where has bodily autonomy and personal choice gone and why are we all being forced down this road?

I’ve been utterly sick of this whole covid nightmare for months and months but today it hit a new low and my rage levels are off the charts. The only place I can direct it is into warning the people of Britain to RESIST, RESIST, RESIST.
