🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

I will never ever trust a psychologist again. The damage that has been done to that profession is a consequence of all this.

Wales figures climbing daily. OH had his operation on Monday lost his mask at some stage. After operation asked for one and was told it's not necessary . It's all government shite isn't it

Worldgonecrazy · 16/07/2021 15:00

I was told I could remove my mask at the vax centre . They were decidedly anti dementory.

Poorer people in zero hours jobs are both money and time poor. Ive seen too many instances of friends starting to plan things even halfway through cooking meals and having to drop everything because of being called into work with no notice. Then there is struggling home on public transport which never runs to time.

NHS needs to get its own house in order too. A theatre nurse was in the same Slimming World class as me but jacked it in because of lack of support from her employer. They were moving items and changing things around from theatre to theatre which took days and she didnt get a chance to sit and eat anything. An ex of mine used to work for a car rental company. Office was a portakabin. No microwave and fridge not replaced when it broke. When on the road constantly moaned at by his employer he was taking too long so couldnt get a break to eat anything. Jamie Oliver tackled the schools but was strangely reluctant to do the same with employers.

An interesting take on mask wearing at our local NHS practice. As the concept of self-declaring an exemption ceases from the 19th, it will now insist on masks being worn on the premises (presumably except where it recognises a genuine clinical inability to do so.)

BogRollBOGOF · 16/07/2021 15:36

It's also difficult to access balanced food at sensible prices if you have to eat on the move. Oddly McDonalds is not the worst and you could potentially swap the fries for salad, but if you're in an occupation like the emergency services grabbing calories when you can, it's easier to wolf down the fries than grapple with lettuce when you could be interrupted at any second.

Jobs involving frequent hotel stays and eating out are also a bugger for accessing sensibly balanced food.

Bloody hell. I waited on my smear test for a prolonged period after lockdown because being masked and having an invasive, uncomfortable procedure by a masked person was too much. It was arranged when they contacted me and I explained the difficulties. The nurse rang back and was happy to only wear a visor, and me nothing. There's nothing direct on my medical records, but there are relevant hints here and there. A few visits about hyperventilating/ breathing difficulties over 25+ years (particularly in humid conditions) auditory processing issues, neurodiverse child.

Fortunately my family tends to be quite light on GP services because masks are a big impediment to accessing anything non-essential.

Smear tests were the first thing that occurred to me too. I commented on another thread. Would they provide a Valium or Diazepam to make it easier. Or insist on a mask without offering this because i would certainly be calling out the misogyny if they insisted on a mask with no other relief

That's quite alarmingly confrontational language from the practice on that extract he's posted.

I wonder how that squares with the GP's statutory duty assuming it's an NHS GP to provide services fairly?

Especially interesting given the health & care bill that's currently lurking around parliament. (I know that's more to do with hospitals.)

The Guardian being very dramatic.

Mmm, are the rest of the UK not opening up too? Or just "England"?

And what about the other countries who have done similar, for example the US? Singapore is also doing similar.

MrsEWeatherwax · 16/07/2021 18:15

I received a text from my GP practice to advise mask wearing staying. Good job I hardly ever go, I was told I need to get my BP checked but I will have a panic attack if have to wear a mask. Last time I had a smear if was painful and nurse told me I was imagining it, so I won’t be back.
I’m not wearing my mask anymore, I’ll still keep social distancing( which I actually like) so hopefully people will stay away from me.
I’m looking forward to wondering around the supermarket and being able to see properly.

Some US states have been open a good while with little apocalyptic media attention.

I can understand GPs, hospitals etc being cautious about masks, they are places that are difficult for vulnerable people to avoid. There just needs to be understanding that there are a broad range of reasons why people struggle with them.

I never was going to like them/ get on with them but a lot of my depth of feeling on the matter has been fed by the stubborn refusal of many to accept that there is a broad range of problems associated with them.

DH has refused to attend for a blood test or blood pressure check. Because his blood pressure will automatically go up due to the stress of all this shit. And he says he does not want to go down to that fucking surgery I also heard DH use the word muzzle yesterday. Ive never heard him refer to it like that before. Keir Starmer was interviewed on the news and DH shouted at the TV "if it was up to you you would have us muzzled for the rest of our lives"

@LivinLaVidaLoki Thank You for defending me on that thread yesterday Flowers Flowers

Hello all! Feeling a bit sad as my oldest is year 6, no more school sports days or plays for her again. Another school managed to have a leavers disco the other night, ours aren't even doing hoodies/leavers tshirts (I know they weren't always a thing but I would have loved it for her and so would many of the other parents). My brother works in a care home and has been told to isolate at work until 25 July, he won't see his kids now until then. I don't have anything positive to say really and I'm not much use here either, just exhausted by it all (and it isn't affecting me as bad as others by a long stretch).Flowers to all

smallandimperfectlyformed · 16/07/2021 20:04

Noro virus is awful! My oldest had it at 5 months and her pram mattress went mouldy as I had to wash it so many times.

ineedaholidaynow · 16/07/2021 20:18

Could parents organise hoodies @smallandimperfectlyformed? I organised them when DS was in Y6. It’s become a tradition that you then pass down the company info to a parent in Y5

smallandimperfectlyformed · 16/07/2021 20:35

Maybe but it's a bit late now really to get all the names for Friday and I don't know how much it would cost, we do live in a very low income area (apparently the school didn't have money but if they had told us a bit before this we would have put some money aside ourselves I am sure). I am not very sociable so wouldn't know half of the parents to ask. Thank you for the suggestion though!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 16/07/2021 20:49

Any time. That poster was utterly vile. You have always been so reasoned and supportive I couldn't sit and watch them behave like that.

Its strange isn't it, its almost like that instinct that kicks in when someone picks on your mate. That's what we all are here I suppose, virtual mates. We've been through births, bereavement, swans, tortoises and everything in between.

Hello all. Just found out something I was planning to volunteer for in the summer wants everyone to be vaccinated first. A bit of "their loss" I suppose.

Not anti-vax, but I want to wait until I'm not breastfeeding. And the more it gets pushed the more doubtful I feel about it to be honest.
