🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

This estate really is the gift that keeps on giving. Two blokes and a woman just tried to break into the shed that stores DHs mobility scooter. The lid wouldnt close properly because of their attempted break in. A neighbour came out and helped DH to fix and close it so we are going to get him some beers to say thanks. Second time this has happened. They must be thick or desperate because that shed made a hell of a noise when they tried it. Our living room windows are open directly above it and even shut we still would have heard it.

SnapDragonQueen · 17/07/2021 07:17

I was on here ages ago but have changed names and somehow dropped off the threads. I'm glad you're all still here!

@MercyBooth I kept seeing your name pop up on threads the last couple of days and it made me think of this one so I've come back! Grin

After much debate and thought I had my first vaccine a few weeks ago. I still feel very uncomfortable about it. I definitely felt forced at any rate. I just know work will lose all sympathy as soon as the isolations for fully vaxed stop in August. At the moment we're incredibly short because people keep going off.

I'm very stressed about our holiday in August (first world problems) because DS will be in holiday club for 3 weeks before and if I can't go I'll be really upset. I feel like isolation is coming for us. We had a lucky escape this week as there's covid in his class but all lessons have been outdoors so no isolating required. I doubt holiday club will be able to do the same. There's no way the good weather can last that long!

Just read a news article about the situation regarding France and it said:

"A senior government source said: “They are worried about the South African variant because they think it escapes the vaccine, although they don’t have evidence of that yet"

Weren't we all shitting ourselves about this variant months ago and then it just turned out to be nothing to really worry about with the vaccine working fine against it? So why are they now saying that there is no evidence? This has got to be a political move surely?

From a news article 13th April:

"On 1 April 2021, Pfizer/BioNTech published data looking specifically at 800 people in the trial who were living in South Africa. Their analysis suggeststhe vaccine is 100% effective at preventing symptomatic Covid-19 caused by the Beta variant"

I am sorry that people tried to break into your shed MercyBooth. That's so horrible

justasking111 · 17/07/2021 08:42

Sorry@MercyBooth that's awful

Friends got to Eurostar saw the headlines thought bugger but they've decided to plod on. So ten days isolation when they get back

Curlygirl06 · 17/07/2021 08:55

Any time. That poster was utterly vile. You have always been so reasoned and supportive I couldn't sit and watch them behave like that.

Its strange isn't it, its almost like that instinct that kicks in when someone picks on your mate. That's what we all are here I suppose, virtual mates. We've been through births, bereavement, swans, tortoises and everything in between.[/quote]
The tortoise says thanks for the mention! I'll take a photo of her when I get up.

It'll probably change again before they get back.....

Hi

Is this thread mainly about Covid/NHS?
I'm not quite getting the gist of what that would have to do with cheese in coffee🥴

my mum puts lemon juice in her coffee.
and I'm the weirdo🤣🤣

Now lemon juice in tea, I'd get Grin

It's a long running conversation about a generally Covidy life and the bigger picture of the consequences of restrictions and some of the more batshit ones that were generally made up (essential shopping only, one hour exercise). Plenty of meandering musings along the way too.

Cheese in coffee came from a now deleted thread in the early days where it was apparently non-essential to go out and buy some fresh milk.
The Crisps on a Bench Brigade was one of my favourite batshit threads in a very insane world of spring 2020.

thanks @BogRollBOGOF

I hadn't been on MN for years so missed all that.
only popped back in late May this year for WH, but then started commenting, got stuck on Euro Footie thread and once again I'm getting a bit addicted but the title intrigued me!🤣

You missed some crazeeee stuff! The tone is calming down a lot, but spring last year, you were basically only allowed to care about Covid. Moaning that lockdown was hard was scorned upon, and there were pretty nasty threads where an OP would have some serious non-Covid problem and would also be scorned upon because only Covid mattered.

We must have had 50+ of these threads since April last year, all in chat with an ADs in the title. Our previous one is still in the top few pages of chat if you want to see if the conversation works for you.

@LivinLaVidaLoki I just popped in here as I couldn’t understand the French DEADLY variant news? Wtf?

I’m also feeling totally duped into getting double jagged as it seems it’s not longer of any use in opening up the world.

Evenstar · 17/07/2021 14:06

We have pets and rude vegetables too 😊

WouldBeGood · 17/07/2021 14:07

😂 the rude vegetables amuse me

Looks like yoga in a really bad pair of leggings Grin

Many years ago another mum at toddler swimming had a tankini set with lovely multi-coloured stripey top and unfortunate nude bottoms. They were very distractingly nude through the water while trying to focus on nursery rhymes. Grin

Just had a friend post on Facebook about sajid Javid getting covid.

"Thought the vaccine worked! Clearly not, there is something they aren't telling us"

Ffs when will they see? His vaccine is doing what it should. The vaccine, while it reduces transmission doesn't stop you getting it at all but does massively reduce the risk of serious illness and death. He's been vaccinated, he got it, unlucky. His symptoms are mild. The vaccine has done its job.

Evenstar · 17/07/2021 15:51

@BogRollBOGOF 😂 at the nude leggings

Jourdain11 · 17/07/2021 15:56

Ahh, @MercyBooth that's really rubbish! It's nasty to feel violated like that.

I'm taking DD2 and DS to France to visit family next weekend and I'm so fucked off by the Dark Amber news. If you never hear from me again, assume that I've been chucked in a dungeon by Macron's dictature.

It's like the fact that Long Covid may be an autoimmune condition (although they haven't found any evidence to support that yet). But, hey, let's just assume that it is!

justasking111 · 17/07/2021 16:12

Was reading about Andrew Marr today who got covid G7 summit. He's had hepatitis, cancer, a stroke. His description of his covid was pretty mild not nice but not totally debilitating.

loulouljh · 17/07/2021 16:16

Funny its the jabbed who are getting positive tests?!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 17/07/2021 16:46

It's odd isn't it how we used to get doom and gloom before a sunny weekend and hysteria before anything opened up...

Now we've a combination of the two it has gone off the chart.....

smallandimperfectlyformed · 17/07/2021 17:35

Bonne vacances, Jourdain11, hope you, DD2 and DS all have a lovely time seeing friends and family and eating all of the lovely French foods and drinking the nice wines etc. LivinLaVidaLoki you have some real dementor friends on your Facebook!! In my local area covid appears to have gone away - not talking about case numbers, no clue!- judging by how much building work and parties I have heard. It's lovely to hear my London suburb bustling again!!
