🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

The weather is definitely like something as described in Harry Potter when the dementors took over …….

…… maybe JK Rowling is right?

chocolatesweets · 18/08/2021 07:51

@Worldgonecrazy omg , it is!

ISaySteadyOn · 18/08/2021 14:07

You're right! Wow!

Where I went yesterday even had that mistyness about it.

I'm currently introducing DS2 to the delights of Harry Potter, we're on the Chamber of Secrets. DS1 is not a fan anyway. The other night, I was reading about the spiders near Myrtle's Bathroom when DS1 came and reported a spider in the bath Grin
Then he caught the bit about Ron's phobia being triggered by his teddy being magicked into a spider and having too many legs which got DS1's imagination going... I ended up in his bed reading Thomas the Tank Engine to take his mind off anything with legs Grin

I've just reread a Dianne Wynne Jones as a comfort read.

ISaySteadyOn · 20/08/2021 14:06

Ooh, which one?

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/08/2021 14:13

I'm watching stand-up comedian Phil Wang on Netflix.
it's quite decent

Taswama · 20/08/2021 19:08

The Power of Three.

Borrowed from the library for DS2. We have the entire Chrestomanci series too.

BogRollBOGOF · 20/08/2021 21:09

I'm getting back into reading a bit more. Going away and having a room to myself helped a lot, but I've kept going better than I had been since then.

I've started on Duolingo again too. I nearly had a 2 year steak and by February it just felt like a tedious chore and I dropped it.
Done a bit of yoga in recent weeks, another habit that lockdown seemed to kill and I seemed unable to get back to in between.

I like the way that I gave up the habits that others seemed to enthusiastically take up in lockdown! Grin

That's a good one! I like The Pinhoe Egg myself.

I need to get back to the gym, I’m so unfit now( and lazy).
I’m really struggling with reading my mental health is shit. So audio books it is.
Anyone else shocked at since Afghanistan ( which is truly horrific) covid reporting has fell off a cliff.

NannyGythaOgg · 20/08/2021 23:48

I'm fa more terrified of what the Taliban will do than Covid; even if it's unlikely to affect me directly.

We all get ill at times and we all have to die at some time. Living existing with the Taliban in power not so gradually taking over and lying about what they will and won't do is just so frightening.

One is nature - the other is 'man' and his obsession with power and control.

NannyGythaOgg · 21/08/2021 00:49

And on a selfish and personal level

The likes of the taliban help to convince Nicky et al that they are still democratic because they are not as bad as (other) dictators

ISaySteadyOn · 21/08/2021 05:52

True. That's chilling.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/08/2021 19:44

Wow! I think I had to go to page 9 to find this thread, hope this means that you have all been busy and had fun over the last few days! I started Duolingo in December I think, many years after I failed my French A level! I am not a natural linguist but I have always wanted to speak another language. Life where I am really seems pleasantly normal. Had my smear test on Friday and so it was my 1st time inside the surgery for about 11 months. There was only me and one other patient waiting, both wearing masks. I couldn't understand the nurse when she called me because I didn't hear my name clearly enough but otherwise it was OK- not like before when there were loads of people in the waiting room but OK. And at least I have got it done! Little ones had a sleepover at their cousins and went to soft play yesterday, and a class party today. Oldest went to a party at her friends house yesterday so it's good to see the kids socialising and having fun. I am quite happy with things at the moment, hope you all are OK

Worldgonecrazy · 23/08/2021 09:10

Argh! So many people not bothered by police brutality because they agree with lockdown.

Can they really not see that it is not about whether you agree with lockdown, it’s about whether you believe that in a democracy, people protesting peacefully against something they disagree with should be met by pepper spray, tear gas and rubber bullets.

The same with vaccine passports, it’s not about whether you agree with the vaccine roll out, it’s about whether people should be coerced into a medical procedure so they can go to the supermarket.

This is the issue. Loss of freedoms that were considered fundamental, and we need to start separating that narrative from covid.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 23/08/2021 10:55

I am definitely bothered by police brutality and massively anti vaccine passports. It seems go have got a little bit darker in terms of panic on here as we get ready for the English schools to go back. I can't wait for it and am glad that I will no longer have to wear a mask whilst waiting to pick my children up!!

Evenstar · 23/08/2021 12:06

Hope everyone is doing OK. We actually went to a music festival yesterday, it was so good to be in a crowd and sing along and not have anyone hectoring you about hand washing and distancing. People were being perfectly sensible and staying with their groups as it is a festival that attracts families and a slightly older age group. . Most of us took chairs, it was lovely.

It was noticeable how glad the bands were to be playing again too.

Evenstar · 23/08/2021 12:21

I also found some rude broccoli 😊

ADs don't want your freedom, ADs don't want to play around
BogRollBOGOF · 23/08/2021 12:29

That broccoli is epic Grin

I'm trying not to think too far ahead with how the autumn/ winter will go. I'm currently getting through the summer looking one or two weeks ahead and I think it's the continued legacy from all the disjointed uncertainty from the tiers last year. I've got races planned in Oct/ Nov and I'll have to wrap my head around training for them when term starts. My diary still feels rather empty though.

Love the broccoli

smallandimperfectlyformed · 23/08/2021 20:41

I had an odd experience at the library today. A different librarian than I normally see was there and not only was she wearing a mask she was also wearing disposable gloves and after getting up to let us in (it's always been a knock and we'll help you in library, sometimes they will buzz and sometimes they will get up) she put hand gel on her gloves! She was very nice to us but it was disconcerting. Tomorrow I have an opticians appointment and I am a little bit worried as it's with an optician I don't know well and she is heavily accented so I think it might be difficult to understand what she is saying through her mask.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/08/2021 07:34

Good luck with the optician today!

I am going to a friend's house in two weeks time but to get there, I have to take public transport. I am ok on the overground but I am worried about the tube in terms of dementoriness. Anyone have words of reassurance?

smallandimperfectlyformed · 24/08/2021 07:55

Thanks ISaySteadyOn! I really don't think you need to be that worried about the tube actually. I haven't been on it for a while but I've seen posts of people who have and whilst masks are worn more on the tube than buses and trains it all apparently seems quite normal.
