🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

Not allowed any more. Children enjoying themselves spreads disease. Hmm

Miserable woman opposite me on train making sure her son stays miserable. She was passive aggressive explaining to him that ‘we wear masks to protect others not ourselves’ so I offered to get out my exemption if that would make her feel more comfortable. She said she was not talking about me she was talking to her son, who despite being about 9, is also masked. So she hasn’t been able to tell him that in the last 12 months? Definitely not a snide passive aggressive remark aimed at me. And she is wearing shit ugly shoes. Awful woman.

Not feeling the love today !

Worldgonecrazy · 10/08/2021 16:14

Ha ha, just got to offer my seat to a fellow unmasked elderly person so PA crap shoes woman definitely looks like the mean person now Grin

WrinklesShminkles · 10/08/2021 17:44

And you leave her behind to another plague carrier - win win Grin

ISaySteadyOn · 10/08/2021 17:48

Ooh Worldgonecrazy last year I was furious with a miserable woman on the bus who used social distancing as an excuse to not move up for an old man who asked to sit next to her in one of the priority seats at the front! She said some nonsense about social distancing and it disgusted me that she was happy to let this sweet old man stand! I don't normally say anything but that made me tell her off - I told her that maybe she should move. I don't think she even heard me but my oldest daughter stood up for him, then someone stood up for my daughter and it was like a chain of people offering one another seats! Well done to you for standing up for yourself- although I am sorry that she was so passive aggressive and tried to make you feel so bad. Shit shoes, shit personality in this case!!

ISaySteadyOn · 11/08/2021 18:00

@Worldgonecrazy, hope you are feeling better today after that encounter. Anyone who behaves like that is not worth your time.

BogRollBOGOF · 11/08/2021 21:47

I've been into the shopping centre in town for the first time since 24 July 2020. The DCs had a great time using escalators Grin

It was quite a big step of near normality to us.

McDonalds also didn't have a staff member at the door for the first time, so that felt more relaxed too.

Ooh lovely BogRollBOGOF , glad you had a nice time. I was in my local town with my middle daughter today and there was a lot of people. I saw 2 people walking around with 2 masks on - separately to one another and in the shops half were wearing masks, half not. Barely any retail staff were wearing them and I can't blame them!

Taswama · 12/08/2021 18:30

I'm just keeping my fingers crossed until Monday when the self isolation rule goes for kids and double-vaccinated.

flower11 · 12/08/2021 19:36

I took my DC to the fun splash at local swimming pool this week. Had to advance book as there was a limit on numbers but other than that it was as normal lots of kids splashing, climbing on inflatables and fighting over floats. It's the first time I've felt things are really going back to normal.

Taswama · 12/08/2021 21:13

That sounds lovely flower

We've done that today and it was great. The pool felt pretty normal for capacity. My two were their usual exuberant selves! They've been lucky that their lessons picked back up last September when many didn't, but it really makes a difference to them to just have an energetic play. DS2 is 8, he was 6 the last time he could do that!

The nitpicking not-normal side was the pre-booking, fixed 45 min slot (mine would go 90-120 mins if you left them to it) and their session is no longer complimentary in the cost of their lessons so cost 3x as much!
Even so, it was good to just do something fun, indoors and pretty normal in terms of fun.

I need to start thinking ahead to next week now... at least the weather is decent.
I miss spontenaity though. Life is easier when there's more flex to work around DS1's energy/ moods.

I wish you lived near us. There is one place for spontaneity and it helps immensely.

In other news, I have a freezer for the first time in my mothering life. What do you all keep in your freezers that helps you?

smallandimperfectlyformed · 13/08/2021 08:45

Ooh ISaySteadyOn a freezer for the first time that's amazing! In mine we keep oven chips, sausages, fish fingers etc- my children are fussy buggers! It's also nice being able to make ice cubes for your drink. I am vegetarian so don't know much about meat but I think it can be helpful to have some joints, my mum always has a spare chicken in her chest freezer

ISaySteadyOn · 13/08/2021 08:48

Another vegetarian! Me too! Oven chips in there already Grin. Mine are fussy too.

Worldgonecrazy · 13/08/2021 09:09

We are two veggies with an omnivore daughter. We keep fish fingers and those over priced but very convenient microwave steamer packs of vegetables so I can cook something healthy with minimum fuss.

Taswama · 13/08/2021 09:46

We have frozen veg - peas and chopped onions; Sliced bread and other bread products like teacakes and crumpets that you can toast straight from the freezer (cut the teacakes in half before freezing); frozen berries, frozen bananas (not shop bought just cut up and put in tupperware when getting a bit ripe) for smoothies.
Also oven chips / potato waffles, sausages and fish fingers.
And lots of leftovers of main dishes (curry, pasta sauce, chilli) and puddings.

ISaySteadyOn · 13/08/2021 09:50

Thanks everyone. These are all things I have been thinking about so it's nice to know I am thinking along the right lines!

flower11 · 13/08/2021 10:32

Freezer is great for throwing quick and easy meals together when you get home late etc chips, veggi sausages, fishfingers , waffles to go with beans, frozen vegetables, pizza . I use frozen fruit to make crumbles and muffins . Puddings too cheesecake and the DC like posh ice cream. Great for left overs and batch cooked spag bol too.

Don't have much planned for next week. We are going to the dentist for the first time since covid.
Dd has her autism assessment!!
And I am working nights so dh has to entertain the DC.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 13/08/2021 11:23

Good luck with the autism assessment flower11.

clpsmum · 13/08/2021 11:24

@Worldgonecrazy that's not true I've been backstage!

Worldgonecrazy · 13/08/2021 11:48
@Worldgonecrazy that's not true I've been backstage!
Apologies for being slow but which post was that a response to? Confused

Worldgonecrazy · 13/08/2021 11:50

Ah, all is clear. Maybe it was different once he was out, but the 1988 tour was definitely no women backstage except his sister. Apparently even a very senior crew member had a talking to

Curlygirl06 · 13/08/2021 19:32

And in today's exciting news, there were 93 geese at the park today. I had both grandchildren today so down the park, hot chocolate and sausage rolls plus a goose- count, highlight of the week!
