🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

Will flare arse man now be accused of spreading Covid

justasking111 · 26/07/2021 22:48

Well if underwears and trousers can't stop covid escaping what hope is there if you burp In your mask 😂😂

MercyBooth · 27/07/2021 02:31

Thought this might come in handy for anyone who is interested. It covers post pandemic and post Brexit travel.

TabbyStar · 27/07/2021 05:51

I've been having to hide people on my FB feed because of their heightened anxiety and posts about selfish non-mask wearers. I did start to compose a reply to one friend, but then I thought why bother and just hid her posts. Meanwhile DD and her friends seem to have another nasty bug that's not Covid, and life goes on....

smallandimperfectlyformed · 27/07/2021 07:36

TabbyStar I went one further and deleted a couple of people due to Covid-19 panic turning them into arseholes! The most annoying one was a woman who used to be nice, she used to be a Brownies leader and worked on one of the free Facebook community pages etc. She has several long term health conditions which is a shame but shielding really turned her into a judgemental old boot. She lives near a secondary school and they were continually being shut due to bubbles bursting, and practically every time it happened she was posting things like when schools are shut the kids are supposed to be at home. I don't mean she didn't want them in the shops, she didn't like seeing them out in the streets at all! I have issues with people wanting children literally stuck inside for 2 weeks at a time- she like me lives in a block of flats with no garden, as do many of us in our busy London town! Her last status about it had someone commenting that the rules were changing on August 16th anyway so I don't think I was the only one pissed off by her.

TabbyStar · 27/07/2021 10:03

The friend I've just hidden is early 50s, no physical health problems, just very anxious, but I don't think realises her anxiety is out of proportion to the risk. I have tried to gently suggest that she's probably fine (she was complaining about young adults in the park and having to walk through it previously and being frightened) but honestly! I have another friend who said the selfish thing and I said I'd stopped wearing a mask because it reminded me of sexual assault, and she said she hadn't really had to think about that and so it hadn't occurred to her, a much better response than some!

amicissimma · 27/07/2021 11:47

It's funny about people's attitude to children being off school.

Over There they're convinced that the huge number isolating is what's behind the fall in numbers. When I pointed out that whatever it is secondary age children are doing, it isn't isolating - hanging around in the shopping centre in huge groups, piling up on park benches, arms round each other, heads together over phones, tongues down each others' throats I had it explained to me that they were much more likely to spread Covid in the classroom. If they're really in closer, longer contact in school it leads me to believe that standards of discipline have changed dramatically since my youngest left school a few years ago.

RockaLock · 27/07/2021 12:00

DS1 was a "close contact" of 2 boys in his class/year who treated positive just before half term.

DS said he sat next to one boy in several classes, and spends every lunchtime talking to the other one (inside, in their form room).

Altogether he reckons he spent about 5 hours right next to the 2 boys in the 48hrs prior to their positive tests.

He did not catch covid. And there were no further cases in their year either.

So I'm not totally convinced that secondary schools are necessarily the plague-spreading hotspots that some people think they are.

Needless to say, DS missed almost a week of school, and we had to stay in all of half term - all of which turned out to be completely unnecessary. To be fair, that is the only isolation we've ever had for either DS, so we've not done too badly.

BogRollBOGOF · 27/07/2021 20:15

Generally schools have reflected the rates in their communities.
Distorted this time because of 30+ generally being well protected by vaccines.

My area is now showing a decline incases... the end of the peak occuring while school was in.

My DCs school has had far more illness on any normal year, especially that pesky norovirus!

Can I ask a reeeeally stupid question?

If people from the EU and the US can travel freely without having to quarantine on arrival to the UK, then why do people travelling back from the UK from these destinations still have to piss about with a traffic lights system? I understand that vaccinated you can travel to Amber and not quarantine, but now we have the constant threat of "Amber plus" seems a bit bloody ridiculous......

Taswama · 28/07/2021 20:03

So a French person coming to the UK on holiday doesn't have to quarantine, but a UK resident (whatever nationality) returning from a holiday in France does?
Only 'logical' explanation would be one is supporting the UK tourist industry and the other isn't?

NannyGythaOgg · 29/07/2021 00:35

Without looking into it more closely, if we are coming home from one of those places then WE ARE people coming from there.

Worldgonecrazy · 29/07/2021 08:02

18 months in and we are still foolishly expecting the regulations to make sense! Grin

ISaySteadyOn · 29/07/2021 08:06

Yes, well, under authoritarian regimes, the rules are not supposed to make sense, are they?

But at least gardening doesn't yet spread the virus 🌱

Not yet it doesn't Wink

I'm so annoyed today. A friend of DS1 has tested positive, and so I had to cancel his dentist appointment today.

I'm not annoyed that DS1 has to isolate, or that I had to cancel the appointment - but I'm thoroughly pissed off that the next available appointment for him is December!!! It's just ridiculous. This country will be in a mess for years to come.

ISaySteadyOn · 29/07/2021 20:15

Yes, true. I feel sad about that, but it seems to be what people want, I guess.

That reminds me, I need to cancel our appointment and rearrange as it still looks like we might actually be away!

No idea on our MiL sirtuation yet as she's still not been discharged from hospital rehab. DH can book to see her, but if she isn't discharged then the DCs and I can't see her. Care needs are currently under discussion.

One IL is AD. Another quite D. The other more middling.

This is not going to be a dream holiday of a lifetime... Grin

The children are hoping for more amusing tomatoes this year. Not sure they'll get their wish as I am gardening better this year 🙂
