🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

I could do with harvesting and freezing the blackcurrants and raspberrries before I go away.

I hope your trip goes as well as possible.

I am here awake at 3:45 in the morning because of nightmares (mine) and thoughts churning round in my head. I think of summers when I was a child and I think of the summers my children are getting and I feel really sad. I wanted better for them. They should be going to the library and the pool and museums when they like not on pre-booked forced appointments and not considered pre-diseased. You now have to book a browsing slot at our libraries and it's joyless plus if they're anything like the zoo, the lanyard will make sod all difference.

At least, one drop off place is open and DS had a great time there.

So many of the pro passport / mandatory jab brigade don’t seem able to see beyond covid. It’s very sad that we have a large section of the population who have been frightened into thinking bodily autonomy is not worth fighting for.

Yes I had a conversation with a friend of my brother's, he was all for making it 'the law' to have the vaccine. But when I asked him if it should also be 'the law' for gay men to be on PrEP a similarly preventative pharmaceutical intervention against a viral infection he suddenly saw the problem and how much of an overreach it is in a legal and consensual sense. It was quite scary actually, I could see the realisation happen on his face in real time. So many people have had their heads filled with rabid covidfear that the ongoing principles of some of this shit just hasn't occurred to them.
BogRollBOGOF · 30/07/2021 12:01

I've been trying to look up swimming (laughs hollowly)
My area is crap, DS2 has never actually swum here! The pool where they have their lessons and another good leisure pool still haven't published their holiday timetables as they've broken up this week. Everything still needs pre-booking in tight windows as far as I can see, and it's hard to pick what sessions are actually suitable for us frim the descriptions on one of the other pools in my county.

Swimming used to be a good, relatively cheap afternoon out for a couple of hours. Check the times and off we go.
The DCs haven't had a fun swim in nearly 17m and at 8, DS2 has forgotten the fun of a splash around because he hasn't done it since he was 6, and it's rubbing off on his lessons because he can't see them as a smaller part of a bigger picture.

Between the weather and domestic sorting to go away, we're having another youtube day. I'm so tired of constantly policing tech and simularaneously feeling guilty that they have too much.

BiL thinks we need to lockdown over the winter again. Just because it makes fuck-all difference to his life.

Funny how we're now in the position where the dementots are all about sacrificing others' lifestyles while they plod on with their little lives without inconvenience.
Hmm

I've no problem with others having quiet little lives, just don't subject the rest of us to tedious misery when we need more input to thrive.

Don't get me started on the swimming. I booked a hotel with a pool for a couple of days next week and discovered at the beginning of this week that the pool is fully booked for the whole of our stay. Who are these people who know exactly when they're going to want to swim on holiday?!

justasking111 · 30/07/2021 13:20

Given up on swimming my son says next day slots released at 9pm by 9.05 all booked. He had an alarm on his phone wtf. Our local hotel with pool and gym for members is verboten until further notice. It's for guests only

BogRollBOGOF · 30/07/2021 13:24

And then the powers that be wonder why there's been a massive spate of drownings!

Because it's hard to access somewhere to swim, and a young generation have reduced opportunities to learn.
Coz drowning is safer to young people than Covid.

I have found you again!

You disappeared from the Covid board; glad that you have just been relocated and are still going strong.

We have been battling with this too. My DD 4 reached the point of being scared at the idea, as it is now so hard to go to a local pool. Learning to swim is a fundamental life skill and all children should have access to the opportunity. It saddens me so much.

We've always lurked in chat... other than our originating AIBU. One reason for our relatively few incursions.

Delurking to say I am sorry to hear about the issues you're all having with swimming - I can't believe pools are still persisting with the booked slots.

My (council) pool stopped using the booking system at the end of May, since then we've been able to just turn up for both lane swimming and family swims, and stay as long as we like. The current schedule is completely back to normal for school holidays.

I'm in the south of England where we've had relatively low case numbers. I hope swim freedom reaches the rest of the country soon!

I was thinking about this today. I could have (would have been foolish to imo, but within my rights) declined my C-section. The result of that could have been a dead baby and/ or a dead me. I'm glad I didn't decline but also very glad that I couldn't have been forced to. Surely this sort of principle also applies to vaccination?
TabbyStar · 30/07/2021 18:30

I go to a private gym and the indoor and outdoor pools are just normal. It's so weird when you've sort of forgotten about Covid because you've been places where things are normal to then come across somewhere with really strict rules. I wanted to go to the library today but couldn't face it because they've only just stopped pre-booked slots and I expected they would be trying to enforce masks.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/07/2021 18:43

Yes, that's what got me at the zoo the other day and what I worry about with libraries. If I could, I'd go with you. Strength in numbers and all that Smile

Taswama · 30/07/2021 18:46

I went to the library last week and although the staff were wearing masks, less than 50% of customers were.

MrsEWeatherwax · 30/07/2021 19:08

I’m fed with having to book everything.
Been to the cinema today and someone sat next to me. It freaked me out, I’m embarrassed to say!

WouldBeGood · 30/07/2021 19:10

I’d really like a proper holiday. This year has been awful and I’m exhausted

BogRollBOGOF · 30/07/2021 19:31

Our library has already been cut to a shoestring of an existence anyway. It now has opening hours similar to a Vogon planning application department.
Good job I'm a bibliophile with a lot ofshelf space!

Ditto

How about an AD cruise? We could have singing, dancing, a rude vegetables buffet and Morten Harket doing the evening entertainment.

Greek islands, France, Spain. Other destinations on demand.

Tortoises sail for free.

justasking111 · 31/07/2021 13:43

Government threatening to put Greece, Spain, Italy on red list so we holiday in UK this summer. Well news flash, we're fucking full, not a bed, home, nor pitch to be had in Wales until September. You cannot after decades of folks flying away magic up accommodation

Worldgonecrazy · 31/07/2021 14:01

If Greece go on the red list then we are going to Bognor instead.
