🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

@DrRamsesEmerson

We have been to church and there was singing and no masks (and coffee after)! So joyous, I'm really grateful that the vicar isn't a D. (It's relatively easy for us- we've never until Covid been grateful that the building is a massive, draughty Edwardian barn, but in present circumstances it's quite useful!)

Zing, your plans sound amazing! Good luck with finding the right place.

That's great 🙂 We normally do the monthly family service. I'm not sure how normal they are yet. They know masks have put us off and apparently most families have held back like us.

DS2 is keen to return. It's a bit awkward with DS1 as he often finds it sensory overwhelming, plus he's come out as an atheist with sensible grounds for his points of view. And I respect that. But he is slightly young to leave at home while we're in the next village. Different when I'm 300m away with Brownies. I think he'd be happy, but we're not quite there yet.

The other logistics are being short of parkrun directors so I can't say to leave off that Sunday of the month at present, and DS2 now being on a football team.

Okay now they're talking about farting spreading covid

You couldn't make this stuff up!

ISaySteadyOn · 26/07/2021 09:35

You know, even if it does, ffs, that's not a reason to hide, that's even more reason to spend as much time out of doors as possible.

I don't like to wear tinfoil hats (I hate things on my head) but honestly, all this seems like a way to keep this authoritarian state we've sleepwalked into.

When I fart (busting through at least 2 layers of clothing), it's very good at encouraging social distancing Grin

Has anyone been following what’s going on in France? Stuff of actual nightmares!

After a week of “debate” through the french parliamentary system, last night the law was passed for the introduction of their version of the covid passport. It begins on August 1st - although it has already been in place at tourist attractions, museums and cinemas since 21st July. It’s called the pass sanitaire and is applicable to all over 18’s from now and for all over 12’s from 30th September. You can achieve a valid pass by being fully vaccinated, having a negative covid test within the past 48 hours or having tested positive for covid within the past 6 months. It will apply to all restaurants and cafes (inside and out), all museums, theatres, cinemas, events, local fairs, on all longer journey trains, coaches and planes and even to enter any kind of medical centre like a gp or dentist unless it’s an emergency. A list of 72 professions including all doctors and nurses and fireman must be vaccinated or lose their jobs. NOT the police though, who are entirely exempt from both vaccination and the pass sanitaire!
Employees in public spaces like restaurants and cafes can also lose their salaries without state support if they wish to remain unvaccinated but the law stopped just short of making it legal to fire them purely for being unvaccinated.

I am not anti-vax but my goodness I believe in freedom of choice and feel that this forced vaccination for all over 12’s is so very wrong and so very intrusive on Liberty.

Personally vaccine passports make zero sense to me. Since infection and spread can still take place amongst vaccinated people, exactly what does it achieve in making it a prerequisite to enter a cafe or restaurant? Going by the figures in France, even with a lower uptake of vaccines overall, the link between hospitalisations and deaths has been broken just the same as in the uk because ultimately the people that needed to be protected by a vaccine have been and cases now spreading amongst younger people, whether vaccinated or not, aren’t having an impact on those much more significant figures.

I despair at the continued forced agenda and don’t believe it is to stop future lockdowns being necessary. If they’re going to keep counting cases and basing their actions on that then vaccinating and vaccination passports are going to make sod all difference.

There is huge protest and not just the unvaccinated are unhappy with this law but as in the uk, the media is heavily censored when it comes to coverage of the protesting and they are all wrongly labelled anti-vax nutters by the politicians. Figures regarding the number of protesters present in over 190 towns and cities were reported on msm as 160,000 but Twitter feeds estimates 2-3 million!

Worldgonecrazy · 26/07/2021 10:36

If people will introduce restrictions on liberty for a good reason, they will do it for a bad reason.

Removal of bodily autonomy is a very bad thing but so many are so utterly terrified of covid they justify it to themselves.

When carrots don’t work, government will use sticks.

We're in the world of parody now, surely. Surely...?

MrsEWeatherwax · 26/07/2021 13:10

I’m fully vaccinated but why aren’t we worried about any other illnesses. Shouldn’t we have to show we have had polio vaccine etc. The vaccines we have as babies are for illnesses more deadly than covid!!
I listened in horror to Radio 4, Any Answers and their was one woman who really wanted to live in a police state. I could cry, house arrest etc use to be a punishment for doing crime.
No criminals can ever complain about curfews and tags anymore can they?
I’m going to start asking to see people’s vaccine record from when they were babies.

justasking111 · 26/07/2021 13:23

@Lostinacloud . I said on here recently that France was the start wonder how many other nations will fall into line. Friend in Thailand who is intelligent is concerned because the army run the country

justasking111 · 26/07/2021 13:24

@MrsEWeatherwax covid is the 24th in the list of cause of death in the UK

justasking111 · 26/07/2021 13:29

We're the victims of loss of control of the masses due to softness in the courts, lack of prison space, lack of help for the mentally ill, collapsing NHS.

Why they didn't push ahead with ID cards I don't know because this is ID control through other means

110APiccadilly · 26/07/2021 13:36

If people will introduce restrictions on liberty for a good reason, they will do it for a bad reason.

Hence those old sayings, made by those who understood much better how precarious liberty is, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance," or "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Or as Patrick Henry never said, "Give me liberty, or give me a 0.3% chance of dying of a novel virus."

justasking111 · 26/07/2021 13:47

To avoid being called out for being against any group minority whether it be race, religion, class, governments think it wiser to essentially tar us all with the same brush, so the don't cares are ultimately responsible for any Draconian measures taken

MercyBooth · 26/07/2021 16:00

Just had the second gas safety check of the Covid age. In here two minutes and will send us the yellow form in the post so thats another form i wont be countersigning.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/07/2021 16:02

There seems to be uprisings in a lot of countries now. I briefly caught something about Tunisia this morning. Is Cuba another one? Protests in Australia- NSW is wondering if they should continue their "temporary" lockdown as it's not supressing figures.
Plus the massive downplaying of British protests.

It really is like The Handmaid's Tale, supress liberty to quench the unseen threat and remove the ability of a sector of society to function fully.

It's Covid passports to eat in in Ireland. It's not exactly going to be the holiday of a lifetime anyway. We've already had to jump through hoops to get there. They're in a more restricted state than the UK so back in to mask anxiety territory. I'm not sure that I've got the energy to resist and make the trip even harder work. It's a duty visit, not a pleasure and we booked hoping that it would be a holiday.

Took the DCs out to Hobby Craft to get supplies for their holiday project. We also went into a toy shop for the first time in 366 days. It's been technically possible, but the whole culture has been totally off-putting.

I think governments shrug at protests now didn't one run for 40 weeks in Paris, yellow vests. That's all gone away now
