🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

@justasking111 my late DM was a nurse she worked for the NHS for 44 years and as a Macmillan nurse for 5 years. I think she would be aghast at how people have been treated for being unable to wear masks.

My mum would be ashamed. But then she was aghast at the dirty wards toilets the patient had to endure

justasking111 · 24/07/2021 12:48

Should add she was a nurse

@ISaySteadyOn

I am v nervous today. My anxiety around people and travel has gotten so much worse but due to lockdowns and mask mandates. And I am just using the overground today.

I don't like being scared to do normal things.

I've had phases like that. It got to the point in January that it took a lot of psyching up just to do the weekly bloody shopping. Buying online is not practical for me and I wasn't convinced that it was the better ling term option.

It's unsettling at the moment because it's all messy on how things are being done. Plus the "courtesy" thing. Except it's not very courteous to mumble incoherently with barely any expression left either.

I'm just hoping that we're getting to the cusp of the peak and cases will fall and confidence will grow and thin patience wanes.

Went over to Conwy this morning to collect somethijg was rammed at 11.30 there's maskless holiday makers masked up folks. I had to double park half on pavement some walking past normally others doing the weird covid dance. I just cracked on filling the car. Even in Wales I don't have to wear a mask outdoors

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 14:03

What's it called where you can leave your house but not your neighbourhood? I

Our zoo trip, massive failure. They wouldn't let you out except through the gift shop which is mazelike and then a revolving door turnstile thing. Lovely combination for an anxiety prone, dyspraxic person with ASD.

I actually wept with relief to be out. And then I had the humiliation of someone noticing me and then asking if I was ok. I know they meant well but I don't want people to notice me. I want to be ignored, I want to be just part of the scenery.

I am not going anywhere not in my neighbourhood for a long time. Tbh, at this point, I think that's rational.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 14:05

My garden will be lovely ☺️🌼🌱🌻

justasking111 · 24/07/2021 14:21

@ISaySteadyOn that's nuts. Our zoo is masks on for reptile houses otherwise crack on and enjoy the walks, gardens, outside critters. Have to mask inside takeaway café but that's it. We're in covid nuts Wales. Sorry your experience was crap. Leave a review

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 14:30

Ours is the same so I just didn't go to the indoor spaces like that. I am trying to be considerate and exclude myself as much as possible from places that require face coverings, but it isn't fair to make someone go through an indoor space to leave.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 24/07/2021 14:44

Sorry it wasn't as good as you had hoped ISaySteadyOn. I really don't like how things like days out are made so difficult- back in October I went to the London Transport Museum with my kids and it's always been one of my favourites. It was quite disappointing because of all the yellow tape etc, certain things being shut off. My brother took his little boy a few weeks ago and also found it a bit of a letdown, but we will both go back when things are a bit more normal. Fingers crossed that comes soon!

justasking111 · 24/07/2021 15:10

Had to shut all the windows, gardening mad neighbors have we suspect unleashed their composting bin. Jakers the smell

mightbealittlebitmad · 24/07/2021 16:14

Been a while since I posted but thought I would update about how normal things are round here. Masks are still 50/50 or more in favour in supermarkets, I don't wear one, nobody has said anything and if anybody has glared at me it's gone right over my head.

Pub wise we are more along the lines of most people not wearing one, us staff mostly don't wear one and things are feeling a lot more normal now that the bar is a free for all.

Nobody is leaping about like crazy people when you pass them. The Beavers meeting was all no masks bar one, a lot of people at the gym have given up and everyone is just mingling around not batting an eyelid.

Had a small party today, kids played normally, adults sat normally, nobody was breathing down people's necks and nobody was sitting on top of each other.

I'm still worried everything will get taken away again and I'll return to the dark place I was at the beginning of the year but I'm just trying to push it to the back of my mind and live for today.

justasking111 · 24/07/2021 16:28

@mightbealittlebitmad don't talk about lockdown again 🙈 we have a population of under four million, twelve million sheep thousands of acres of empty spaces, one populated city. But you can bet that drakeford will lock us up before we finally can get rid of masks as soon as he feels a cold draught from Westminster

smallandimperfectlyformed · 24/07/2021 16:32

Pleased to see you back mightbealittlebitmad, glad to hear you're feeling better than you were. I understand the fear of everything being taken away as I think most of us have that worry at some point.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 24/07/2021 20:32

afternoon.
we've just had possibly the best day this year.
went to visit our friends who also have lots of kids - our children get on really well because they are almost exactly the same age and have always known each other, from childhood, so it's like they are cousins really.
the parents are long time friends (20+years) and we genuinely just get on so well.
We were supposed to meet up last March, but lockdown started the very week they planned to visit!
I was just fantastic to finally be able to see them. so lovely & relaxing.

And we decided to go on holiday together next year!!! well, if we can find a big enough house that caters for 17 people!😁
I'm so excited because you seldom get 8 teenagers (their oldest 4 and our oldest 4) to even agree on anything, but they are all actually very much on board!
YAY!!!!!! I'm so so happy!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 24/07/2021 20:43

Ah ZingDramaQueenofSheeba that's so lovely to hear! I am sure you will find somewhere for you and your enormous bundle of people together, and what a holiday that will be!!

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 21:14

@mightbealittlebitmad, glad to see you!

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba, that's great, so pleased for you Smile

That's lovely Smile

We've had a good one. Returned to parkrun at long last this morning. DS2 had a great run. He last went in Oct 19 when he was 6. He was still quite slow then and 50 mins to do it over the winter was hard going. Today he ran the lot in a very healthy time, and we still had the energy to comfortably chat.

We've had friends over too and similarly, we have children of the same age and interests. Similar parenting style to with similar boundaries. Makes life much easier!
They were depressingly ultra-cautious last year but are now happy to embrace normal and I'm glad that I was quietly patient around it.

We are away on holiday and drove down yesterday. On a little detour to avoid some traffic on the M5 at about 8.30 yesterday morning, I was very excited to see a woman wearing a '50' parkrun milestone tee shirt obviously on her way to her local parkrun. We will be driving back next Saturday but am very much looking forward to parkrunning in 2 weeks.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/07/2021 12:12

I need to finish earning my 50!
There were a lot of cancellations in winter 19/20 due to storms and ground conditions so I missed my initual target. Reset it to Easter 2020... oops!

I need to earn it before I have to pay for it!
I missed a trick, if I'd done a few more in my early years, I could have got a 10 before they were discontinued. DS2 had his 10 though.

We've been back to the juniors today. Was good to see the average height rocket up today Grin

Hello, a few years ago some friends stayed here and had a really nice time.

They take dogs too.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 25/07/2021 13:56

@CruCru

thanks for the link it looks amazing!

We are planning to go to Spain (the kids are desperate to go abroad and I wouldn't practising mt feeble Spanish) so we'll have to explore different options & see what's feasible.
But it's certainly a great place, good to bear in mind.

DrRamsesEmerson · 25/07/2021 15:14

We have been to church and there was singing and no masks (and coffee after)! So joyous, I'm really grateful that the vicar isn't a D. (It's relatively easy for us- we've never until Covid been grateful that the building is a massive, draughty Edwardian barn, but in present circumstances it's quite useful!)

Zing, your plans sound amazing! Good luck with finding the right place.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 25/07/2021 15:29

Ah DrRamsesEmerson so glad you had a good service. I have been sad about our church, as you all know and were very understanding about, but I am aware of other churches being much more welcoming. I even saw one church advertising its children space as being open again on Twitter- unfortunately for me Croydon is miles away from where we live!!

Taswama · 25/07/2021 17:19

I was planning to get my 50 by the end of 2020 Bogroll . I don't think I'll manage it by the end of this year as I don't generally make it every week. But early 22 should be possible.
DS1 has his 10 too.

Singing and coffee in church sounds excellent DrRamses . I'm hoping our work choir can restart in September.
