🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

Visited local shopping mall yesterday. Probably around 10% no mask, 10% chin hammock or ear dangler. I have no idea if the 80% masked were tutting or glaring. I do believe that the more people ditch the masks the more will follow suit.

Did get a bargain in John Lewis though! Fish slice down from £11 to £4.50 😎

chocolatesweets · 23/07/2021 10:00

Do you think we have a silent majority?

CruCru · 23/07/2021 11:08

That is a bargain, Worldgonecrazy. Whenever I buy anything cheap and someone compliments it, I tell them how cheap it was in tones of glee.

MrsEWeatherwax · 23/07/2021 17:36

I do don’t care if I get glares, sod then.
I’m fed up the local news seem be getting obsessed with how many people are getting pinged! I won’t be getting pinged as I haven’t got the App.
Deaths in county are almost zero, not that many cases in hospital, plus who knows if they are in for covid and are ill, or just have and are in hospital for something else and now have covid.

justasking111 · 23/07/2021 19:17

Every heatwave we get extra deaths all over Europe the elderly especially. I do wonder if that's a factor at the moment

justasking111 · 23/07/2021 19:19

Aha science agrees with me

@chocolatesweets

Do you think we have a silent majority?
Our opinions are far more mainstream than they were a year ago (we were ahead of our time) and to be fair goal posts have changed, the mood has changed and some of the wider social costs that we were warning of when the world was more single-minded have come to fruition.

A lot of MNers seemed to give themselves until Easter with complience and have the winter wave over with and that seems to have held up. The "but Long Covid" respose to anything (now that grannies aren't dying in droves) now reads like a parody.

The mask wearing I've seen this week has been variable. Certainly they did get cooked off the faces of previously very compliant faces at school this week. It has frustrated me that people have quietly admitted that in that context they think its a pointless gesture yet they've still played along until the final couple of day of the year.

I've had a lovely day on the reopening of the big play area in the park. Those services like the water play area didn't reopen last year. 2019 was a washout so we didn't do much there that summer. DS2 had completely forgotten what was there!

And weren't a lot of care home deaths associated with dehydration last year as contact between carers and residents was reduced?

I suspect masks will be mandatory again in a couple of months so we should grab the freedom while we can

justasking111 · 23/07/2021 20:05

@BogRollBOGOF 2500 people died last summer due to the heatwave

ISaySteadyOn · 23/07/2021 21:02

We are off to the zoo tomorrow. Wish us luck. Will still need my lanyard but tbh, I need to power through my discomfort at advertising my disabilities.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 23/07/2021 21:26

Have a lovely time at the zoo tomorrow ISaySteadyOn, hope you enjoy yourself.

Taswama · 23/07/2021 22:04

Enjoy the zoo Steady . Good luck.
We've been to the library - huge (shared with uni) and sparsely populated as I expected, non mask wearers outnumbered mask wearers.
Asda has more faces on display than Waitrose earlier in the week too.

Curlygirl06 · 23/07/2021 22:47

At work this week in a supermarket on Wednesday and Thursday, there were more non mask wearers on Thursday than Wednesday.
Regarding the staff, more were wearing them than not. I didn't, as I'm behind a screen so there's no need. If i had to go on the shop floor I wore it if there were a lot of people about, otherwise not. It'll be interesting when I go in tomorrow- I'll report back!

Re living my teen years by watching The Lost Boys on BBC 1

Imagine getting the offer of immortality off a vampire now.
You would look around at all this Covid crap and reply
Er......no thanks.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 07:57

I am v nervous today. My anxiety around people and travel has gotten so much worse but due to lockdowns and mask mandates. And I am just using the overground today.

I don't like being scared to do normal things.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 24/07/2021 08:21

Sorry you feel this way today ISaySteadyOn. I hope everything goes well and you find it easier than you expected

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 08:46

I hope so too. But I am pessimistic. I hope to be wrong but I am filled with worry. Still, it's for the DC isn't it?

I can't even think of an incentive that will help me. There are no treats for doing something difficult. Oh well.

Honestly, despite supposed easings, I am starting to feel like I don't want to leave my house or rather, my neighbourhood. That's why I am doing this so I don't end up that way.

Sorry to catastrophise but I need to get it off my chest.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 24/07/2021 08:51

I understand that completely and think it is good that we have these threads where we can get things like this off of our chest. Hope you see loads of lovely animals!

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 11:21

Is there any point in writing to a venue to explain how their policies make people with intersecting disabilities feel really unwelcome?

Evenstar · 24/07/2021 11:47

@ISaySteadyOn I don’t know really, you don’t know whether the person whose desk your letter lands on will be sympathetic to your difficulties. A lot of people seem to be convinced that mask wearing is only good and have no empathy at all with those of us who cannot wear one.

I have seen that stupid meme of Freddie Mercury with parodied lyrics about spreading germs all over the place because you aren’t wearing a mask, frequently on Facebook since “Freedom Day” posted by people who in normal circumstances I thought were kind and considerate.

I was challenged by a nurse at my hospital appointment the other day even though I was wearing a lanyard, she said “Oh have you stopped wearing a mask now?” when I explained about my asthma she said “Oh poor you?” in a rather sarcastic manner. I said nothing and I haven’t complained, partly because I thought it likely that any complaint would probably just be a justification for their mask policy and partly because I think I have just reached the point of being grateful that I am allowed in and receiving non COVID care 😢

WouldBeGood · 24/07/2021 11:55

@ISaySteadyOn I totally get your feeling that way. I’m feeling it a bit too, can’t really be arsed to do things because I’m so anxious they will be weird.

Hope you end up having a good day!

ISaySteadyOn · 24/07/2021 12:16

You know the worst, most shame-making part for me? I think masks are unethical, immoral, cause disruption of community and normal interaction and yet I feel ashamed that I can't wear one and sometimes wish I could. So I end up in a catch 22 either way.

justasking111 · 24/07/2021 12:31

@Evenstar if the nurse was querying your mask when shes been swimming in covid soup for 16 months she's barking. Nurses are exposed to everything daily always have been.
