🎵 Every day I hear a different story
People sayin' that you’re no good for me
Saw your lover with another
And she’s making a fool of you, oh

🎵 If you love me baby, you'd deny it
But you laugh and tell me I should try it
Tell me I’m a baby, and I don't understand

Go Wham!

Like the tag line says, this really IS unbelievable! A British MP asking for the speaker of the House of Commons to rule that a covid passport will not be applied to attendance at the House of Commons because “it would be outrageous if an MP, trying to represent their constituents, were unable to attend Parliament without first undergoing a medical procedure”!!!!

Just wtaf? That is exactly what they are asking young people to do so they can access a nightclub! And, haven’t all or most MP’s had their vaccine anyway? Why would they care about the passport applying to the House of Commons unless unvaccinated? Angry

I'm still struggling with anticipation of anything that's not practically imminent. And the general hassle: pleasure ratio.

I'm not as flat as I was in May, I was still pretty numb, my emotional range has picked up (including bursts of anger). My normal disposition is pretty sunny.

I'm in a funny mood today, but I think it's just end-of-termitis aggravated by struggling with the concept of making plans for the next 6 weeks. Losing the middle 2 weeks of a 6 week term with isolations already buggered up my sense of rhythm so I'm just settling back this week and it ends today anyway!

The next county has a different term structure and with the changes this week, still haven't released things like pool timetables.

Yesterday a big city race postponed from Oct to spring because they feel the current expectations of guidence aren't viable. I'm not signed up, but it's bloody awful that at 18m after all this started the organisers still feel thar they can't reasonably host an outdoors event that is entirely positive for public health and fitness.
I've got a couple of road races deferred to November. They are smaller scale so hopefully it should feel more managable to them...
Back to the anticipation issues again...

Fair point @IRanSoFarAway1 - let’s hope his point hits home!

I think its pretty usual for paediatric icu to be full. Our local one only has 3 beds. Dd was in 2 years ago with sepsis. They were short staffed then they had to get someone from the baby unit to look after the baby that was in. Dd nurse was in tears because a and e wanted to admit another child and there was no staff and technically no bed.
The nurse station was next to dd bed so I could hear what they were saying. So stressful for them. I wanted to go and hug dd nurse.

I've not worn a mask in larger shops. In Sainsbury's this morning I noticed quite a few staff not wearing them, someone on another thread was saying that not wearing masks might support shop staff who also don't want to wear them. Most customers were though. I'm off to a small independent cafe, that just has outdoor seating at the moment, though you have to go in to order, and I suspect I'll feel more pressure to conform. I love one shop near us that says it's our choice, but they've missed our faces Grin. DD doesn't want to wear hers, but she feels she'll be judged as a young person if she doesn't.

Went on a train journey yesterday only a few with masks. Wonder if it depends where you live

justasking111 · 22/07/2021 15:49

Had a lovely maskless lunch, no-one else wearing them bar the poor staff. Filled in the form . Very few meals was mostly couples quaffing long cold drinks

First the nightclubs Now the churches. And Mosques and synagogues and temples.

MercyBooth · 22/07/2021 18:35

Did you all see the massive controversy on Twitter last night? Dr Katie Bramall-Steiner said that there were no paediatric ICU beds available in the country which of course generated panic. It was also untrue but it was re-tweeted 7,000 times before she issued a retraction and apology of sorts. She has also now protected her account so her twitter feed can't be seen by everyone

Yes. I watched the whole thing unfold. I got some links ready in case one of the usual suspects posted something Over There.

They'll back off from the religious buildings and covid passports
smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/07/2021 19:35

I flipping well hope my lot, the Church of England, actually stand up and use their considerable position of influence (places on the House of Lords for goodness sake!) to say no to this. In fairness I think they did release a video a few months ago when this was being considered. I think all of the faith organisations should say something, I can't imagine any of the religious organisations going along with this. I know mostly about churches but Sikh temples are famous for providing food to anyone who goes there and asks for it- I think it's called Langar. Our local Sikh organisation has a stall in one of our market towns a few days of the week and they are really well thought of.

How old is your DD?

She's 18, bless her, she probably has no idea what SATC is Grin. She works for the NHS and has been double jabbed and has had Covid before that, so she's unlikely to be much of a risk. I do feel for people who are medically vulnerable, but that doesn't negate the other harms masks cause.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/07/2021 21:52

@IRanSoFarAway1

I mentioned upthread that I know the local vicar and am pissed off with his attitude.

One reason is that he told the congregation "no one is safe until the whole world is vaccinated". I found out later that it was a standard line doing the rounds on media?

I thought it was really irresponsible. I volunteered at that church and the regular Sunday lot - all 10 - 15 of them! - are mostly elderly and were already terrified. I thought that kind of comment would put them off seeing children and grandchildren etc as well as being hugely divisive.

I don't normally think too much about positions of responsibility but that seemed an appalling abuse of it. I did wonder if it was a standard C of E line though.

I am always weary of saying what Jesus would say or do, as that is what a lot of people
smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/07/2021 21:55

Never normally posts that quickly - I hadn't finished! Basically people can use Jesus as a way of fixing the arguments round to their side. I do feel pretty confident though that He would have issues with people being constantly told to stay away from one another and view one another as a source of harm, given that He told us to love one another as we love ourselves.

From the Church of England guidance on reopening from 19 July:

"It is not a requirement, nor is it appropriate, to ask people if they have been vaccinated."

smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/07/2021 23:36

Thank you amicissimma that was an interesting read. Whilst it is more cautious than I am, it was good to hear that they have no plans for asking about vaccinations and actually quoted from the Bible and refrained from mentioning the NHS!
