Hancock resigns

Good, why has it taken this long.

OP posts:
SpindleWhorl · 27/06/2021 00:13

The Mail on Sunday is running a story also about Hancock being dodgy as fuck (paraphrasing).

It's about emails, his pub mate and a big PPE contract.

TheNestedIf · 27/06/2021 00:31

Sounds ideal. Investment bankers.

Work 24/7, mostly super bright.

Make money , run efficiently, keep their client happy.

If the NHS was run by the CEO of Tesco, it wouldn't waste the millions it does and be full over overpaid middle managers.

I have to politely disagree with this. One of the most wasteful and useless periods where I work was when they put people in charge of IT who were driven and bright, but who had no idea about IT. Resignations, nervous breakdowns and an expensive undoing of a lot of the things that had they had implemented followed.

As for this being a set up, it'd be interesting if that ever came out. It does have a whiff of Hugh Abbott in The Thick Of It deciding to resign over "The Flat" whilst calculating how long it would take him to get back into government. Hancock going over an affair looks far better than having to go in the aftermath of a public inquiry into COVID.

SnowdaySewday · 27/06/2021 00:31

@vaccinesforall

He has been able to choose the story - set the narrative - rewrite history.

He has been able to resign for breaching social distancing, not the dodgy contracts, not the failures during the pandemic, not the excess deaths, not the damage to the NHS.

Don't be naive - Hancock is the winner here and his family will be much happier that he has been found guilty of social distancing rather than the alternatives. He is getting off very lightly.

I agree. It really wouldn’t surprise me if Hancock set this up himself.
SpindleWhorl · 27/06/2021 00:41

Apparently he only started 'seeing' Gina C in an intimate way six weeks ago, but 'friends' and 'sources' (yada yada) are supposedly saying 'it's a love match'.

I'm definitely not buying that crock of shit.

Nancydrawn · 27/06/2021 00:48

According to the Daily Mail (so take it with a salt shaker), the tape was leaked from within Hancock's office by someone who disagreed about lockdowns and wanted Hancock out of the way for being too supportive of them.

The article, if you can bear to read it, has a very (unintentionally) funny graphic layout of the office that includes markers for "white board" and "Queen painting."

Nancydrawn · 27/06/2021 01:15

Oh, and "KISS DOOR," all in capitals.

MercyBooth · 27/06/2021 02:01

The way they were touching they have been at it for a lot longer than six weeks.

RealhousewifeofStoke · 27/06/2021 06:47

‘Glad I pretty much ignored all his ridiculous rules!’

You must be so very proud of yourself.

Benjispruce3 · 27/06/2021 06:52

Just because he’s resigned as Heslth Secretary, doesn’t mean he’s got away with anything. He will still be held to account during the enquiry.

Both could be tried - long emotional affair, then light the blue touch paper with actual physical contact and boom

(6 weeks ago tallies with 17 May easement, when "The public can make informed, personal decisions on close contact, such as hugging, with their friends and family")

AuntieStella · 27/06/2021 06:55

*tried = 'true'

(I need more coffee brew !)

MaMelon · 27/06/2021 07:41

How convenient Grin Their respective loins must have been exceedingly grateful for that easement- if indeed anyone believes they weren’t at it well before May.

Plumedenom · 27/06/2021 07:56

Gove and Cummings think they know it all. What they fail to realise though is how thoroughly unlikeable they are. Cummings is just an absolute snake and Gove is sinister. They all need to go, seriously.

MaMelon · 27/06/2021 08:33

But it doesn’t matter how unlikeable are - people continue to vote for them and their sleaze for obvious reasons.

Stopsnowing · 27/06/2021 08:34

I find it striking that his first instinct on being found out was to leave his wife but not to resign but rather to try to tough it out.

Youdiditanyway · 27/06/2021 08:40

Honestly shouldn’t have taken a sleazy affair with the aide he hired to get rid of the arsehole. Think the PPE and care home scandals were slightly worse.

Do feel for both of their spouses and six children though. I read they have both chosen to leave their spouses and live together. Good luck to them, if they cheated with you they’ll cheat on you. It won’t last. Totally baffled as to why he didn’t just marry her in the first place if they’ve been into each other since they met 25 years ago. Why waste their spouses time and break their hearts like this? So callous.

I was thinking about this. My guess is he fancied her then but she didn't reciprocate. Then he became er... 'powerful' and, well she changed her mind. Some people are like that.

You couldn't pay me enough though.

Dave20 · 27/06/2021 09:48

He awarded contracts to a family business, taking advantage of a pandemic.
Nice work if you can get it. Hancock has no morals does he??

Backhills · 27/06/2021 09:54

I suspect he was told not to resign initially, from that statement the PM made. It's an impossible job and it suits them to have someone dispensible in it for now.

Possibly even, resigning is an up yours to the PM. Or maybe he realised he needed to resign to be able to run off into the sunset.

Handoverthechocollate · 27/06/2021 09:59

The so-called government has done untold damage to the "stay safe" campaign. Loads of people will be partying, congregating and getting on with their lives as of this weekend. Thanks, Matt!

And that was the point he himself made after Neil Ferguson and Cath Calderwood broke the rules.

He even stated he’d back the police investigating Ferguson.

He couldn’t survive that

KarenofSparta · 27/06/2021 10:03

Yes, many will be thinking 'fuck you Tories' and doing whatever they feel like.

What a political backfire, that benefits no one.

Will they? It still seems Labour have little chance in the up coming by election, for a seat that they do currently hold.

I really wish Labour would sketch themselves out. How can they be so unelectable in current circumstances?

Backhills · 27/06/2021 10:09
