Boiled eggs and soldiers

What’s your ideal ratio? I have 2 (large) eggs and 3 slices of (standard shop bought granary) toast. 2 slices isn’t quite enough, 3 slices is a couple of soldiers too many.
Just made it for ds, the eggs were slightly smaller than usual and he said 2 slices of toast was the perfect amount.
Dh just came into the kitchen and said 4 slices is the perfect amount Shock
How do you eat yours?

2 soft boiled eggs, peeled really carefully squashed on one piece of buttered toast each. All the yolk soaks in. Yum.

Notallowedtobesick · 26/06/2021 18:43

@longtompot

2 large eggs, 1 slice toast which I let go cold and then butter and cut into soldiers.
This.
SpacePug · 26/06/2021 18:54

God I really want a boiled egg now. With loads of salt and pepper. And proper butter on toast but we only have light spread in because I'm calorie counting 😭 low fat spread is poo

SecretKeeper1 · 26/06/2021 18:59

Anyone mentioned crumpets yet? The yolk just clings to them. I recommend buying the square ones.
You’re welcome.

Hm2020 · 26/06/2021 18:59

One slice per egg 2 slices and 2 normal eggs or if on a diet one egg and one piece of toast not that I do that often

BrownEyedGirl80 · 26/06/2021 19:04

2 eggs, runny yolk.but firm white.2 slices of white toast with loads butter on cut into thin soldiers.Sprinkle of salt in between each dip.

Cantbebotheredtothinkofaname · 26/06/2021 19:20

We run a 1 slice per egg ratio here, although DH might have an extra slice on the side if he is feeling greedy. So 2 x eggs and 2 x toast (granary) for me.

At the moment we get our eggs from a friend who has chickens so can’t control the die, but before that I always bought large, now I’m questioning it because of the welfare thing mentioned unthread! Love duck eggs when I’m not pregnant. Boiled eggs for me tomorrow!

Cantbebotheredtothinkofaname · 26/06/2021 19:21

*size (damn autocorrect!)

Strawberriesandcream21 · 26/06/2021 19:26

My hens lay large eggs to. I have 2 eggs and 2 toast, could do with two more soldiers thought, the crusty bits aren't as good

YelloYelloYello · 26/06/2021 19:28

So I'm the only one who has 1 egg. I think that's because my parents only ever gave me one as a child, and I'm only just realising the the beauty of being an adult means I can have TWO eggs!

Omg same! I was so shocked at everyone having two eggs but then it occurred to me that I’m still having a child’s portion!

BertieBotts · 26/06/2021 19:32

Two eggs, two slices of bread, with butter and marmite :)

I have to do it with toast where I live now but I prefer it with bread really. It just has to be proper UK bread. Warbutons or Hovis or something like that.

DS1 (12) likes 3 slices of toast and 2 eggs. DS2 (3) eats one egg and one slice of toast, no marmite.

bengalcat · 26/06/2021 19:36

As a child I’d get one egg and one slice of buttery toast

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 26/06/2021 19:41

Oh, dear, I always buy large free range eggs. I had no idea! I thought that the happier the hen the larger the egg. Not sure where I got that from now I consider it carefully. We get most of our eggs from a flock we know down the road but if I do buy I go for large ... not anymore!

Still confused. Can someone explain how hens can be forced to lay bigger eggs than they want to?
Awarsewolf · 26/06/2021 19:51

3 eggs 2 toasts for me, but I usually buy those mixed size boxes… but I’ll still have 3 if it’s large Grin

thecognoscenti · 26/06/2021 19:54

@Winterfellismyhome

2 large eggs and 2 slices of white bread with marmite
All of this
HopeForTheBestExpectTheWorst · 26/06/2021 20:01

1 egg, 1 piece of toast. I’m amazed that 2 eggs seems to be the norm!

CinnamonStar · 26/06/2021 20:25

SiobhanSharpe I was always put off duck eggs after reading a story where someone is murdered by cooking them duck eggs. I can't remember the name of the book now, but I think it's the nanny or governess or something who gets poisoned. Or maybe does the evil deed.
(Obviously it can't actually be true, or supermarkets wouldn't sell duck eggs! Grin)

stop worrying, it is fine.

Large hens lay large eggs
small hens lay snall eggs
medium hens lay medium eggs

You really can't force a hen to lay bigger eggs.

(you can't bloody force some of them to lay at all Angry I'm looking at you useless new expensive hen that doesn't lay)

eggs will take on the flavour of the food. So traditionally ducks were fed a fishy based food and so duck eggs tasted fishy.

That isn't true now and I can't imagine how you coudl kill someone with a duck egg!

Mudddypaws · 26/06/2021 20:29

1 egg and 1 slice of toast cut into soldiers would never have 2 eggs.

StevieNix · 26/06/2021 20:33

I hate eggs being runny so I’ll have mine (3 eggs) hard boiled and mashed with either a bit of butter mixed in or some mayonnaise and cherry tomatoes. No bread just eaten from the bowl with a spoon! Yummy

strawberrymilkshakeisdelicious · 26/06/2021 20:34

Two and two. Salt on the egg, butter on the toast, ketchup on the side. Perfect.

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 26/06/2021 21:07

@UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername

Big hens lay big eggs, small hens lay small eggs. No welfare issues involved. We have both ends of the scale.

Four eggs, a bit of butter, no bread or toast.

Sorry if this is a stupid question Blush, but what are you doing with the butter if no soldiers? Do you just plop a chunk of butter into the egg?

Also to everyone who has multiple eggs at once, are you also using multiple egg cups? Or using one and rotating the eggs? I only own one egg cup so that's what I would do Blush

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 26/06/2021 21:08

This sounds delicious!!
