Boiled eggs and soldiers

What’s your ideal ratio? I have 2 (large) eggs and 3 slices of (standard shop bought granary) toast. 2 slices isn’t quite enough, 3 slices is a couple of soldiers too many.
Just made it for ds, the eggs were slightly smaller than usual and he said 2 slices of toast was the perfect amount.
Dh just came into the kitchen and said 4 slices is the perfect amount Shock
How do you eat yours?

@Mammymar

Two eggs and two slices of toast. Salt.

Same as me.

Speckledy · 26/06/2021 12:02

"Never heard of having marmite with eggs?"

I don't have strong views on boiled egg to soldier ratio but Marmite and egg is a great combination. Either marmite on soldiers or, my favourite, two slices of marmite on toast with a runny-yolk fried egg sandwiched between.

Meruem · 26/06/2021 12:04

I like eggs but they don’t like me very much! So I only have one and 2 pieces of toast.

TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 12:04

I’ve heard about marmite soldiers before but never tried it.
I also resisted marmite on crumpets for years before giving in and realising they were amazing so it might be nice?!

3 eggs, 2 slices of toast.

RonniePickering · 26/06/2021 12:09

Thanks everyone you've inspired me to pull the 'adult' card and eat multiple eggs from now on!

PMSL 😂 I’m one of 4 and we were always given half a pie each, my greedy arse used to plead for a full one. I feel like I’m rebelling now when I do 😏

I can confirm that it is, indeed, fantastic.
TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 12:14

Ooh interesting @RonniePickering - 3 eggs but only 2 toast. Don’t you have a lot of leftover egg?
Oh @LindaEllen it’s definitely time to pull the grown up card! Ds has been having 2 eggs since he could toddle Grin
@TheChosenTwo so they can lay large eggs perfectly fine and naturally? I would feel a lot better knowing that. I buy my eggs carefully to hopefully ensure the hens are as happy as possible.
oh lovely
@TheChosenTwo
! Smile

afaik @Ninkanink they can (and do) lay large eggs naturally, but selective breeding and overfeeding for supermarkets means that it can be bad for hens to be made to consistently lay large eggs for commercial farmers. there's a bigger demand for large eggs, supermarkets pay more, and it's not much extra cost-wise for the farmer to produce them.

2 eggs and a whole bunch of asparagus for dipping. Otherwise 2 slices of toast. Yes to the marmite and plenty of pepper.

VexedofVirginiaWater · 26/06/2021 12:17

2 large eggs, 2 slices of toast - from the smaller 400g loaf though, not the large one, with low fat spread (just because it's what we have in).

My older son has 3 eggs and 3 slices of toast (one slice per egg rule) and my younger son has 3 eggs and 4 slices of toast (optimal use of toaster slots).

RonniePickering · 26/06/2021 12:17

TheChosenTwo

No left over egg, no 😬 I love the whites though with salt, and could eat them without the toast tbh.

TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 12:17

They are actually lovely pets I have to say. They’re so funny to watch. I was quite anti getting them to begin I’ve firmly come round and fallen in love with the silly birds!
We enjoy just sitting out in the garden with them watching their antics.
And the eggs are very tasty which helps Grin

No one else have a pair of cooked chipolata sossidges for soldiers? Asking for a friend.

TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 12:22

@fibberty someone said their ds used to dip sausages in!
I think Nigella introduced me to Parma ham wrapped around asparagus to dip as soldiers into egg. I’ve tried it before, it was nice but tricky to eat as the ham all bunched up and came off in one go from the first bite!

Ninkanink · 26/06/2021 12:28

I use asparagus wrapped in prosciutto as my substitute when I’m not eating bread. I think prosciutto would work slightly better than Parma ham as it’s got a bit more integrity.

It’s not the same as bread but it’s pretty good.

Pinuporc · 26/06/2021 12:40

Marmite is also yum with egg mayo.
We have chickens and the eggs they lay are often large.

Coronilla · 26/06/2021 13:22

Marmite toast with scrambled eggs is the bomb Wink

Moomala · 26/06/2021 13:25

1 egg two brown thin toast if I have breakfast at all I usually eat twice a day

TheChosenTwo · 26/06/2021 14:03

@Moomala I’m the same,
Only eat breakfast at the weekends because I have more time.
In fact, I haven’t actually eaten today yet and I’m feeling hungry so might go and make myself some eggs…

Mine love hot buttered toast so 4 slices for two extra large eggs.
Love duck eggs too.
Black pepper is critical here.

Served after a bowl of creamy spinach soup, it is the perfect monday supper.
Light, filling, hugely nutritious, yet delicious.

Yep DS loves the very thin Helen browning ones.

Your friend should try Speedy sausages they were made to dip in eggs (no I dont work for them)

CaptainBarbossa · 26/06/2021 14:14

1 egg : 1 toast ratio

bloodywhitecat · 26/06/2021 14:19

Two eggs of whatever size the girls have laid that day and one slice of toast. I used to have two slices but the menopause has played havoc with weight gain so now have one.

isseys4xmastinselcats · 26/06/2021 14:58

2 large soft boiled eggs two standard slices of white bread slathered with butter and cut into soldiers
