@flutterby18 Thank you Smile

paula035 · 15/07/2021 18:08

@Chrissols Hope you are okay can I just ask how much you paid for your Lenovo desktop all in 1 because they seem to vary in price? Do I also have to buy the keyboard separate?

Chrissols · 15/07/2021 19:02

@paula035 I think I paid around £650 in Curry’s, I did go for the one with more memory, I think they had others for £399. Can’t remember about the keyboard but I think it came with it. Lovely pc with no other bits you have to find room for, it’s very modern looking

@Chrissols thanks for your reply it’s really helpful. There seems to be a few different ones so I was just wanted to check. Thank you Smile

@Meha5a- thats an interesting comment about your keyboard being able to add in text. I've often wondered why DICT8 dont have the facility of auto text on their package as this would save immense time and ensure correct spellings of terminologies, drugs etc too. It was my lifeline and bible in the hospital. It would allow us to finish letters far quicker and of course not only put extra cash in our bank account but theirs too and more work would be undertaken, really such a simple thing to add from an I.T. perspective I thought theyd have done this by now. They asked a few years back for any suggestions to improve the system before update and I did mention this but obviously must be too technical to do or they just ignored it but such a shame as it would benefit all round, the client, dict8 and of course us transcribers being able to earn more. Grin

Meha5a · 16/07/2021 14:21

@carosel2 absolutely agree, I used macros all the time in my last job, saved a lot of time and was disappointed that DICT8 did not give us the ability on their page to do it. I created a few templates in Word and used copy and paste, but it meant faffing around in two different screens this way it's just one button only drawback is it is just 50 keystrokes (trying to work out if you get more by downloading the keyboard software but am waiting for my son to do all that when he can come and visit)

carosel2 · 16/07/2021 18:08

@Meha5a T-pro have what they called replacement text which is similar and very helpful, although there isnt much need to use it with VR. However, it is good for the many names and addresses etc.

Hi everyone I got my pack today so I need to source the best pc now. I know most of you said you are part of the Lenovo gang but which one would anyone recommend? Or does anyone use a Laptop and a keyboard so it’s more portable? I have received info about foot pedal so can order that as well now I just need to ensure I get the right one from the sounds of it. Any help would be appreciated I don’t want to waste money and it be wrong and/or not compatible Blush @Chrissols @flutterby18 @Gally123 @carosel2 @Meha5a

Gally123 · 20/07/2021 18:44

@paula035 - I use a laptop and a keyboard although I did look at All in Ones as just bought a new HP laptop, however I did not have space for a large screen (much I would have liked one) as I would have to keep moving it around, hence went for a laptop. Got my foot pedal from the London supplier recommended by DICT8 and got my DICT8 discount. I use cheap £3 ear plugs from Asda.

On a separate note my replacement pay cheque for the one that went astray/stolen in the post has not turned up yet....

carosel2 · 20/07/2021 20:06

@paula035 - Hi I use a laptop and a separate ergonomic keyboard. I find this keyboard very helpful. I have bad joints to.say the least. Ive had my laptop years and have it serviced. It is an ACER. I also have BT and have had no problems with them at all. I purchased an Olympic RS28 foot pedal I purchased from our local computer shop. I find using a laptop better for me as if I go away anywhere for a while I can still.work if I fancy. My headphones are JVC amd cost me at the time £6.99 may be a bit.more.now but I swear by them. To me there's no need to.buy expensive ones as the cheaper ones work perfectly well and.I.am.slightly deaf too but they do well. Hope this helps. Good.luck hope you get plenty of work! Smile

paula035 · 20/07/2021 20:27

@Gally123 @carosel2 Thank you so much for your replies it’s appreciated. It’s obviously an investment so don’t want to waste money purchasing the wrong equipment, foot pedal etc and it but being compatible 🙈 It would appear from My Details page I have only been assigned to one Speciality “Medicine Gastroenterology” is that normal practice only to be assigned one Speciality?

Chrissols · 20/07/2021 20:33

@paula035 yes it is usual at first, but advisable not to say on here as Dict8 proofreaders etc read on here ( or so it is though) which makes it difficult if you want to ‘sound off’ as they can work out who you are

OP posts:
carosel2 · 20/07/2021 20:54

@paula035 - agree totally with Gally123. Just keep your speciality anonymous. Sad really aa think if we knew others we would really be able to compare like workload etc. I only had given the speciality I worked at in the hospital but after a while got 4 others (which I asked for mind) but ended up giving two back as I really couldn't fathom out the terminology not being familiar enough as some of the docs are atrocious in their dictation as youl have noticed on some entries Grin on here

paula035 · 20/07/2021 22:18

@carosel2 @Gally123 @Chrissols noted thank you Wink

flutterby18 · 20/07/2021 22:22

@paula035 - I have had my Lenovo for quite a while so it probably is not available now (couldn't find it when I checked on Google). If you go to 'my details' then 'account' scroll down the page and under 'foot pedal model' it gives a list of all the compatible foot pedals. You can also change the settings, play back etc from there once the pedal is attached. I bought mine from ebay for a lot cheaper but that was a long time ago.

Good luck and have fun. Please don't be put off if you get a lot of feedback from the proof readers, we have all been there! Smile

Chrissols · 21/07/2021 07:26

@paula035 yes, as @flutterby18 mentioned, you may get feedback in the beginning but it’s nothing to worry about, just getting into Dict8 ways of typing. Just remember to type it as it is spoken even if it sounds rubbish.

@Chrissols noted thanks for the adviceSmile

Gally123 · 21/07/2021 09:32

@paula035 - but if it does sound rubbish - add a note in the comments box "I am unsure of this word/phrase" to cover your back.

Gally123 · 21/07/2021 11:33

Is anyone having trouble with Tpro this morning? My system seems to have frozen, however it only seems to be affecting Tpro, I can do other things on the laptop, but the letter I just typeed I cannot submit or move to WIP. Thanks.
I have send in an enquiry to them as well but I think they are a bit busy!

carosel2 · 21/07/2021 11:56

@Gally123 - Not on Tpro today as grandchildren sitting! Hope it gets sorted for you

Gally123 · 21/07/2021 12:02

@carosel2 - not doing well! Not typing for DICT8 as no pay cheque and I am not typing for nothing and now this! I had a reply from TPro and I don't think they know what to do either. So time for lunch I think!

paula035 · 21/07/2021 12:11

@Gally123 noted thank you Smile

paula035 · 21/07/2021 12:56

@flutterby18 Thank you for the advice and words of encouragement Smile

carosel2 · 21/07/2021 13:53

@Gally123- ive just logged on to see if its affected me and ive got straight in. I think we may type for different hospitals so perhaps its something to do with that....as if you haven't been paid by DICT8! That is shocking! Sad Have you contacted them to send another cheque, that is terrible. I remember you saying your post gets delivered elsewhere at times. This is the reason why it is so outdated the way they pay. Could you not have your cheque sent to a different address in future, perhaps like a realtive or trusted friend, local Post Office

Gally123 · 21/07/2021 15:39

@carosel2 - I am back typing for Tpro - the problem seemed to affect one letter (or one dictator). I am now showing over 1200 letters just on one hospital!

I am supposed to be having a replacement cheque sent from DICT8 C/o my sister's address - but that has not turned up either. Will have to enquire again, but as I say, this is not a situation I want to put up with so I am sticking with Tpro and their direct bank payment at the moment. Post Office complaints are no help.
