Hi all........

Thank you for all the support ladies x this week has definitely been a hair puller for sure !!!! I'm taking the advice and will apply to Tpro or getting a part-time job like @Lovemydaxie at least then if I get crap to type I will be getting an hourly rate instead of the pittance from DICT8 .

I agree the tasks are backlogs and from the same doctors so clearly even the secretaries are not interested (don't blame them) I have one who rambles incoherently at 100 miles an hour even when slowed down to 60 ! I've spent more time with my hands up in the air in rage rather than on the keyboard 😂 oh and the other day I actually slumped across the keyboard !!!!

Thanks again ladies and have a good weekend x

Gally123 · 09/07/2021 10:35

I wonder with DICT8 if the decent stuff with good dictators is currently being given to the new typists so as not to put them off and all longstanding, long suffering people get the cr*p as we have put up with it for so long.

My sister is forever nagging me to get a job with Sainsburies as they pay £15 an hour! But I would lose the flexibility re working hours, holidays etc.

Lovemydaxie · 09/07/2021 10:41

I've got to say @Meha5a it was a huge wrench going back out to work after 30 years, but I'm really enjoying it. It is only 3 days so I feel I've got the best of both worlds as I do dict8 on my non-working days and at least I have a regular income from it. Blimey @Gally123, I didn't realise Sainsburys pay £15 an hour, maybe I should have done that, ha ha!

carosel2 · 09/07/2021 11:31

@Gally123 - my thoughts too about giving the newbies the good ones, if we experienced transcribers are struggling, then they surely will. Im on with Tpro today (lots on too), had enough of DICT8, will see what next week brings in from them. Have a good weekend everyone! Smile

Meha5a · 10/07/2021 12:26

I'm off to Sainsburys to get a job !!!!

danblack87 · 10/07/2021 13:06

Have a great afternoon everyone .. of for salad, buffet and playing scrabble!!

Gally123 · 12/07/2021 11:11

Back to the very original question - has anyone had problems with their pay cheque this month? I posted mine a little late and was surprised to see it marked on the system that I had been paid on 5 July, however I have not yet received the cheque one week later.

I am just wondering if the delay is their end or my postman. I have had cause to complain about my post recently - it gets delivered to a student house in a nearby road (same number house, different road name and post code) and being students they either keep stuff, throw it out or return to sender; they do not seem to understand the concept of wrongly delivered mail (I have been there and tried to explain) and think everything delivered is for them or previous occupants who have moved on. Rather annoying to say the least.

Gally123 · 12/07/2021 11:12

* meant to say I posted my invoice a little late.

danblack87 · 12/07/2021 12:15

@ Gally123: I posted my invoice on the 5th of July and my chq arrived on the 10th

Gally123 · 12/07/2021 12:41

@danblack87 - thanks - I suspect it has gone astray.

Funnily enough, I had a phone call this morning that hung up before I could answer - I did 1471 and it was an 0800 number so googled and it came up as DICT8. Therefore I rang them back and asked, however the woman on the phone told me they were phoning round transcribers to see if they were happy with the quality of work etc now that it has picked up - so I told her what I thought re my experiences, and asked about the cheque and was told to email in a query.

Lovemydaxie · 12/07/2021 12:54

@danblack87 - my other half took a phonecall from Dict8 last week when I was out. They said they would email, but never did. I was wondering what I had done wrong! However, it was probably for the same reason they phoned you.

carosel2 · 12/07/2021 20:44

Very strange about the phonecalls from DICT8. I find it odd that when you search DICT8 on internet that our nearly up to date thread is actually in their reviews button. Perhaps they are reading it and seing the numerous complaints people are putting about the quality. If they are concerned about the quality (which surely they will know about) as their proofreaders will know won't they if they are choosing random letters to be checked as they will have to listen to the crap dictation to try and correct our typing. If they are ringing round why not send a generic email so.we all get it saying they are aware of poor dictation and they are trying to rectify it. Im just wondering if they read this and are trying to work out who we are. Just my thoughts @Gally - by the way my check came within 5 days so perhaps yours has gone astray

Meha5a · 13/07/2021 18:07

That's very unusual for DICT8 to give a crap we normally get the rough end of that rude woman's tongue !!! Maybe she's left and they have realised they actually need us !!!!

I hope she's got the boot

Gally123 · 13/07/2021 18:25

I am doing very little typing for DICT8 at the moment for various reasons - the quality plus also laptop problems (due to collect new one at the weekend) and I wonder if the phone calls are targeting people who are no longer doing much work for them. Previously I did type for them full time so to go from that to virtually 0 hours this week maybe they are looking into why this is. (Without asking if we are working for another company hee hee).

paula035 · 13/07/2021 18:56

@Chrissols Hi I have just been approved as a transcriber for DICT8 just waiting for my username and password. Like a lot I have read on here I work as a Medical Secretary but hoping working for DICT8 will take off (fingers crossed). I would appreciate some help please and it would be nice to join the thread to be able to share experiences and offer support. I am employed full time but do I have to set up as a sole trader to do work for DICT8 do I can generate invoices? Would appreciate any support yoi could offer on this please. Thanks xx Smile

Chrissols · 13/07/2021 19:16

@paula035 Hi and welcome. This site is great for just general tips and advice, but also when you've had a bad day and just want a rant - it's nice to be able to chat to folk that understand. Yes, you will need to set up as self employed, and the more I hear of Dict8 not telling people that the more surprised I am. You need a unique reference number from the the Inland Revenue, it is essential or you could get in a lot of trouble. Having said that, they are very quick in supplying you with one. Yes, you will need to provide an invoice every month submit to Dict8 but once you are up and running it will all become clear 😊 Hope you get some good specialties as I believe reading on here lately that some have become very difficult. Another good place to try for transcribing is Tpro as there is always plenty of work available for when Dict8 are a little on the thin side

@Chrissols Thank you so much for your welcoming reply Smile Do I just go onto gov.uk and set up as a sole trader? Is the unique reference number issued to me what I put on my invoices? Do you just set it up using your forename and surname or can you set up with the name of a new business (I assume I would have to set a bank account up in that name as well to pay the cheques into would I?) Thanks for the Tpro tip as well for when I get going. Sorry for all the questions I have never been self employed so it’s new to me so any advice you can offer is welcomed. Thanks again Smile

Chrissols · 13/07/2021 19:48

@paula035 you will need you self employed tax number in order to fill in your self assessment at year end, with you already working full time already I would think you will need to pay tax on everything you earn with Dict8 as your allowance will already be being used on you PAYE

OP posts:
Chrissols · 13/07/2021 19:52

@paula035 ask away, we all help each other on here. For your invoices you just need your name and address, and also need to put Dict8 address on. You just put the amount of lines you are claiming for that month and the total in money. Cheques usually come within a week and you just pay them into your normal account. Just remember to keep notes of everything, i.e., postage costs, computer equipment etc so you can offset it against your tax

paula035 · 13/07/2021 19:55

@Chrissols Thank you. I just need to get set up then. Do you need to set up as a business or do I just need the self employed tax number? I would like to set it up as PS Services (ps as in ps at the end of a letter and it’s also my initials using my maiden name which i would like to do in memory of my Dad to carry on the family name). Again sorry for all the questions I’m just a bit confused with this setting up as self employed and how to do it. Thank you Flowers

Chrissols · 13/07/2021 19:56

@paula035 sorry, should have said, no you don’t need to put your number on the invoices, it is for you for when you do your tax return. Dict8 used to insist on seeing this before taking transcribers on, a bit naughty of them not doing. Yes, just go onto gov.uk and register as self employed and you will get a number in no time 😊

@Chrissols Thank you so much you have been a massive help Smile and it’s reassuring to know that the support is there. Have a nice evening Smile

@paula035: Welcome to Team Dict8 Transcribers !!

danblack87 · 14/07/2021 10:36

All: I had a phone call too from Dict8 last week to see how I am doing - apparently there are 5000 transcribers ... They are calling all of us I was told!
