Hi all........

OP posts:
Gally123 · 04/12/2021 14:01

@danblack87 - with lockdown I did buy a printer (which ate ink) but having to buy a new laptop with no DVD drive I have not been able to install the printer software, and the old laptop completely died this morning when I tried to print my invoice. I am sure there is a way to sort printer connection but I tried a few things but my new laptop did not recognise the printer and I exhausted my limited IT knowhow.

Feeling tired as well, as gas men back digging up the road - we have had gas leaks on and off for the past two or three years. The digging and drilling started about 11.30pm last night, and continued....

danblack87 · 04/12/2021 14:07

@Gally123: Sounds like you are having a horrendous time what with one thing and another. You are more IT aware than me and I either ask my daughter's fella or call in someone from the local area to fix *charged of course (and offset to tax of course). I am surprised you can hear anything dictation -wise with drilling ... I struggled yesterday when the council were chopping trees and clearing leaves with a blower Angry. Hope this pick up for you over the weekend Flowers.

wfh21 · 05/12/2021 10:40

@Gally123 that is funny and yes, would be the only time I would have typed verbatim.

I feel sure this thread is followed by DICT8 as some changes over the last few months have come off the back of this thread, in my opinion. I think the points are valid too. No pay rise forever. Archaic invoice and payment process. Goalposts moved continuously regarding layout. Aggressive feedback. Aggressive she who should not be named. No payment for note box (unheard of in this work climate, and is it even legal ? what would happen if we all refused to add notes ? would we be told to go elsewhere ? Was it in our contract to type for nothing ?) I also feel the telling email that used the word "afraid" spoke volumes.

Workingfromhomenow · 05/12/2021 14:19

@Gally123 I've send in a handwritten invoice before now.... but make sure you still send on A4 as I was pulled up for sending it on a smaller piece of paper! For an online company, it's very strange that we can't email invoice and be paid directly into our bank accounts.
Whatever, typing for Dict8 suits me at this time in my life as I'm looking after my elderly mother and can just work at her house and not have to turn out and go to an office every day, especially in this cold and wet weather. It wouldn't have suited me when I was younger though and more in need of the social aspect of working.

Gally123 · 05/12/2021 17:59

@Workingfromhomenow - thanks, I wondered about paper size, also if it should be plain, or does lines matter?

@wfh21 - yes, we know this thread is followed by DICT8. On one of the earlier versions of this thread several people warned about not giving away personal details that might identify you to DICT8, also they warned to be careful if someone sends you a personal message as apparently that was another way DICT8 tried to identify typists. There was also a woman who called herself "Victoria" who admitted to be employed by DICT8. She also claimed to have one specialty and earn £15 per hour, which is why I think people are suspicious of another poster saying exactly the same. "Victoria" also said she could earn that much consistently as she was a very fast, accurate typist and did not need to check her work, she said she just typed and submitted! As to non-payment for the notes box - I am sure it is illegal; I remember reading about a chain of shops who paid their staff from 8.30am when the shops opened but insisted they do jobs before hand to do with checking the tills, shelves etc - they were sued and made to pay the staff for ALL the work they did before the stores opened.

wfh21 · 05/12/2021 19:21

@Gally123, I have to say there was some terminology used by one person on here that was close to the micro-managers ! did make me wonder.

Whitestar5 · 05/12/2021 23:39

Yes, I thought for someone who claimed to have only worked with DICT8 for a short time, the new poster suspiciously knew lots about how DICT8 operates and wasn't shy about making suggestions to the rest of us, which was pretty irritating.

Workingfromhomenow · 06/12/2021 08:05

I have worked with people like that though - super efficient and keen to try to teach others how to suck eggs.....they often get promoted!
I wonder what Dict8 would do though, if they worked out who we were. I don't think they would cut us off from work as surely they need us as much as we need them.

Lovemydaxie · 06/12/2021 09:54

Been patiently waiting for my Dict8 diary to turn up and this morning I find I've been sent a notebook instead! Presumably they've run out of diaries so I've got this. Now going to have to go out and buy one. Anyone else been sent a notebook instead?

Cherryblossom114 · 06/12/2021 11:52

@Lovemydaxie I just assumed it was a diary when I saw the package. Yep notebook

Whitestar5 · 06/12/2021 11:54

I suppose you could say we are providing free advertising for a business predominantly run by a non-medical entrepreneur who will look for any legal way and loophole to maximise profits with minimum outlay, and despite the negatives, no publicity is bad publicity - don't they say.
wfh21 · 06/12/2021 18:57

@Whitestar5 I agree, telling everybody to get off here and type amused me

danblack87 · 07/12/2021 12:44

Received gift from Dict8 - Very useful Smile

Whitestar5 · 07/12/2021 13:23

Me too, also finding it useful as a coaster/place mat.

danblack87 · 07/12/2021 15:21

@Whitestar4: I find it difficult to remember all the things I have to do so this is a Godsend. Xmas present list and Xmas card list done!

Gally123 · 07/12/2021 18:11

@Whitestar5 @Workingfromhomenow I think if DICT8 rumbled any of us we would get a barrage of the dreaded feedback. Once (when I had a cold after coming back from holiday) and made a mistake I was sent feedback three times a day for a week, at 8am, lunchtime and then 6pm, masses of it, and half the time you think "did I really type this letter?" massive overkill and rather unnecessary, then as suddenly as it started if stopped, but it did get to the point where you are hesitant to type anything at all, just the thought that after all the years of positive "thank you" feedback you cannot possibly have transformed into a typist who made so many errors - but you cannot prove it either way.

As to the notebooks, cheaper to produce that diaries I would guess (not had one yet), and suitable for making notes of all the feedback sent. And if I have to buy a diary to note my meagre earnings I assume if work related it is tax deductible.

Whitestar5 · 07/12/2021 18:27

Assuming we earn enough to pay tax in the first place :(

Workingfromhomenow · 07/12/2021 18:42

@Gally123. I know just what you mean. Years ago I made a mistake which led to my work being watched and I received so much petty feedback that I very nearly packed it in. I was shocked as I had always been praised for my work in all my previous jobs. It was only stubbornness that kept me at it and eventually it stopped when I suppose they realised I wasn’t so bad after all. I was glad when they started the positive emails as it does give a bit of encouragement but seems that’s stopped now.

KAnthony · 09/12/2021 10:25

Wow what an interesting morning, not only have I received an email of praise and recognition for my work but they are also shocked, like yourselves, at how well and quick ive managed to get on with Dict8 and in her words ‘very unheard off’ have been asked to join another two specialities. Not bad for not even four months with them, guess you reap the rewards to what you put in. Merry Christmas all!

Gally123 · 09/12/2021 10:33

@KAnthony - I can beat that - I was phoned and praised and asked to take on extra specialties after only one month.

KAnthony · 09/12/2021 10:41

@Gally123 well done you. I’m not the one constant moaning about the company now though? Had you typed these specialties before. I haven’t! Nervous! If you done so well in the beginning also why would you doubt me so much??

Gally123 · 09/12/2021 10:47

@KAnthony - according to DICT8 policy you need to prove you have worked in specialties for a certain number of years before they give them to you. If you have never typed these specialties before there is something very strange going on here.

KAnthony · 09/12/2021 10:54

@Gally123 here we go again being so sceptical. Nope, no experience. They are however, fairly close to the one I already do and if I’m not happy with them or them me, they can be removed, worth a go. You’ve yet to answer as to why you were so doubtful. They also mentioned they were well aware of this thread and it appears to be the same 20 or so people commenting negatively all the time and out of the 5500 transcribers they have your just a drop in the ocean. I now understand why you so done put anything to identify yourself (clearly I missed that memo as I’ve used my full name lol) I guess, like they said, if your good at what you do and you put in the hours then new doors open for you?

Gally123 · 09/12/2021 11:03

@KAnthony - we know they are well aware of this thread, as we have mentioned many times. But why did you feel the need to discuss it with them?

I notice you did not check your grammar or spelling (not for the first time either). Not that good.

KAnthony · 09/12/2021 11:30

Again, not answering why you were so doubtful. Just happened to drop into our conversation as being made to feel what I am managing to earn is far too much and out of peoples capabilities, but that is actually untrue. Just for you clearly.

Thank you for picking up on my grammar, damn iPhone with autocorrect. Jolly good job I don’t do my typing for Dict8 on here, my actual paid typing. But you, with that comment, has just confirmed exactly what Dict8 think of you - in their words ‘Bullies’.
