Hi all........

OP posts:

It is great to be able to work 12 hours a day if it is manageable I would say but I believe that would have severely put a great strain on my relationship, my child and leisure time. As I recall, many years ago when my first instinct was to do just that as 'newbie' and you kinda really love it for that reason, once settled, I quickly realised that with a really good day's dictation the average of these hours equates to only £7.20 an hour in REAL terms. If the work is not there (as was dire for at least 16 months - due to COVID) 12 hrs work/6 hrs sleep only leaves 6 hours left to shop/cook/feed/clean/go gym, swimming etc ... I decided very quickly that heading 'for a burn-out' was not an option and hence moderated my day to between 6 and hours typing time - sure I don't earn as much BUT, on the other hand, and at my age now, I feel there is more to live for than working!!! Good luck to all.

danblack87 · 16/10/2021 12:59

My target is between £30-£40/day - put you, you know, depending on the tasks I can find myself very disappointed when it comes out at £10-£20/day because either the tasks aren't there or the dictation on the tasks has been absolutely dire Sad

KAnthony · 16/10/2021 13:28

I have quite an obsessive personality. I was the same in the NHS and hated tasks being sat there. At the moment I’m trying to do all I can for xmas and then after new year I think I might aim for my daily limit and switch off (easier said then done)! I’m not sat there for 12 hours solid-I do manage to get the washing on, house cleaned, nip shops!

danblack87 · 16/10/2021 13:39

KAnthony: Me too at NHS. I used to have a target of typing my Consultant and his team's clinic within 24-48 hrs of clinic!! I am much more relaxed now!!!! I find freelance much more adaptable for me and my lifestyle and Dict8 has allowed me to do that Smile.

carosel2 · 18/10/2021 16:17

Well had some right horror bags today for dictation! I wished they'd get a bloody grip! God knows how their poor patients understand them if they talk over the telephone like they dictate Angry

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 10:59

@Carousel2: I had a horrible dictation day yesterday too ... I don't know why I sat all day for £15!! Sad. Today seems a bit better for me, so far.

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 11:02

@Carousel2: Bucks Fizz came to mind: 'Making your Mind UP' ..' speed it up and then you slow it down ..... making your mind up'!!! Cockwombles Smile

Gally123 · 19/10/2021 11:12

@danblack87 - I get dreadful dictation every day, count myself lucky to earn £20,. sometimes only £1 or £2. It just gets worse and worse. I do like your Bucks Fizz analogy!

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 11:16

@Gally123: I find you get whole batches of BAD dictation and then just a couple of good ones ... drives you nuts doesn't it? I am lucky if I am averaging £20 a day for the last 6 weeks so I understand completely what you say. Glad you like my analogy - obviously I am going NUTS!!!

Gally123 · 19/10/2021 11:21

@danblack87 - have you managed to check for optional updates yet? I had a look on my new laptop (bought in August) at the weekend and discovered 6! - 1 quality and 5 driver updates. I did them all and it seemed to help with my intermittent loss of internet connection - last week every morning when I fired up the laptop after 5-10 mins I would lose internet connection even though the router had all lights working, so far this week there have been no problems.

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 11:26

@Gally123: I had six updates but they 'booted in' automatically when I did a Re-start so it seems sorted, for the moment. I haven't had a problem with internet connection (thank goodness).

carosel2 · 19/10/2021 12:45

@danblack87 - Grin Grin haha, oh dear, I am at a loss to why these doctors are not told as they are regulars time and time again. My earnings have been shocking these past two weeks again and hardly any dictation at all today regardless good or bad, I just don't get it. Anyway, at least I have Tpro. By the way did anything come of your application to that lady who advertised for transcribers?

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 12:53

@Carousel2: I didn't move forwards with Transcriptum yet ... I just did not have the time to do the typing test due to other commitments at that time. I can apply at any time when I am ready.

Gally123 · 19/10/2021 13:03

@carosel2, @danblack87 - I discovered with Transcriptum that you need your own software and also it is not medical work.

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 13:04

@Gally123: They do have medical work but also other work (which is what I was interested in); however, they aim to increase their medical transcription service. I didn't get as far as discussing pay or software!

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 13:06

Just wrapped a couple of Christmas presents whilst awaiting a task I can hear properly!!

Gally123 · 19/10/2021 13:09

@danblack87 - as DICT8 has been so dire recently I applied as although I have TPro I wanted an UK based contract as well (however, now TPro pay in sterling that is not so much of an issue). I could not do the typing test as there was no software, however I listened to it - it was a classroom situation, someone lecturing, people asking questions. You had to type multiple people talking, it would have been so fiddly I did not bother. The pay was variable but not great.

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 13:21

I am not bothering with Transcriptum I don't think until after Xmas when I will take another look. There are loads of tasks on my list but it seems that I cannot shift the 5 I can see!

carosel2 · 19/10/2021 15:23

@danblack87 - @Gally123 - oh right I didn't know they did different subjects, I worked doing Police interviews in the early years, was very interesting, but also hard when you had to type like for like with ums and rrrs etc. Work is just coming in now for DICT8 but I am fed up now! so I am calling it a draw for today, its hard work when it doesn't flow

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 15:27

@Carousel2: Strange isn't it ... seems that mine began shifting about an hour or so ago SO, now I have been able to achieve something; however, like you, I shall be closing down n approx 1 hr - sod's law isn't it. I really do not fancy putting in a night shit too!!!

danblack87 · 19/10/2021 15:27

Whoops - of course, I meant 'shift' LOL

carosel2 · 19/10/2021 17:58

@danblack87 - hahaha🤣🤣

ShanJG · 23/10/2021 18:05

Hi Guys! Quick question for anyone who types with T Pro. Is the pay in euros or sterling pound? I haven’t received my first pay yet but I currently have about 600 sitting there will this be in euros and converted into pounds so actually be less or will I be paid it straight in pounds? Thanks.

carosel2 · 23/10/2021 18:32

@Shanjg - everything you earn is in euros when it goes into your bank it will have been converted into sterling so will be less than 600, not sure what rate is at the moment, but think it works out at around £507

carosel2 · 23/10/2021 18:36

ShanJG - dont forget it depends what the exchange rate is at the time you cash in your euros so could be more 😊
