Is anyone a regular LBC listener?

I’ve only recently found it, and have heard lunchtime and early evening shows until now.

Just tuned in this morning and listening to someone referring to himself as “Steve Steve Steve”, and it is very Alan Partridge-esque.

It was real stream of consciousness stuff, running from the empty beaches of Barra and the soup you will need in your campervan to day trips around Twickenham, murders in Gloucestershire and litter-throwing, with little tonal range along the way.

I found it bizarre, but maybe this was an off morning?

It’s great radio station usually nearly always something I find interesting. Steve Allen annoys me If I have misfortune to be awake pre 7am. He says something, repeats half of it and then repeats it again. All the time!

If you have the app you can download and skip the adverts and get missed shows.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/05/2021 20:18

Oh how I miss Clive Bull

I absolutely cannot stand Matt Frei have to turn him over!

I agree with James O Brian on Brexit, but had to stop listening to him because he is so smug and condescending. He is really rude to people who don't think the same way he does.(Apart from Brexit, I don't) He thinks he knows everything!

I now listen to Times radio, and I love it!

girl71 · 19/05/2021 21:02

"I absolutely cannot stand Matt Frei have to turn him over"!

😂 I know, blink and you miss him. I forgot to turn him off last Sat, discovered he is actually quite a nice listen.

Mugsen · 19/05/2021 21:16

I love LBC. I don't sleep well so listen in the night. Tom Swarbrick is so knowledgeable. There are some very funny callers sometimes.

Easterbhunny · 19/05/2021 21:18

Apart from the fact that I really, really don’t agree with the majority of what Nick Ferrari says, I can’t get over the noise of him breathing while he’s listening to callers. It’s so loud and wheezy, it’s the closest I get to misophonia.
I used to listen to it quite often, I especially used to like it in the early 2000s when I lived in London, the phone ins were always entertaining but not so much any more. I only listen to Eddie Mair really.

Lavender17 · 19/05/2021 21:19

I really like Theo the political correspondent. Nick Ferrari is great - right wing but irreverent, funny, doesn't suffer fools gladly. James O' Brien is incredibly articulate and like you @mrsorganmorgan I agreed with him on Brexit but he's become a know it all, a smug and patronising right-on bore. Eddie is great. Shelagh used to be my fave, but her views on people who have chosen not to have the vaccine are appalling. Will never listen to her again. I have now defected to Talk Radio which is fab. Anti-woke, anti-lockdown, anti-masks in schools, anti-pointless covid tests. No bullshit. Love it.

Moirarose2021 · 19/05/2021 21:20

Think I might give Times radio a go. Love Nick Ferrari, turn over for Ken Bruce as can not stand JOB, need someone to listen to for when Jeremy Vine and JOB are on at the same time. Like Eddie Mair and Tom Swarbrick and seem to be addicted to Majid as he can infuriate me but can't seem to keep away!

Mrsorganmorgan · 19/05/2021 21:37

Times radio is really good

Sarahlou63 · 19/05/2021 21:57

@Bookridden

Where is the love for Tom Swarbrick in this thread?! Moderate and kind and intelligent. Think he's going to be on primetime soon.
I agree - he's great and not afraid to take issue with politicians and callers.
Bookridden · 19/05/2021 22:01

Big fan of Times Radio as well. Used to think that I wouldn't like Giles Coren's programme on Friday afternoons, but it's hilarious.

purpledagger · 19/05/2021 22:06

My OH got me into LBC about 12 years ago and I listen regularly.

Me and OH play LBC bingo and listen out for Majid mentioning that he is a (British) Muslim or Ken Livingstone saying 'when I was Mayor...'.

ramonaquimby · 19/05/2021 22:20

JoB is insufferable. Turns everything around to himself, name drops, cuts people off. Quite a misogynist. Ick. Can’t stand to listen to anything he has to say.
Love Eddie Mair

Cactuslove · 19/05/2021 22:51

I have recently discovered LBC and like all of the presenters really. In particular Sheila Fogarty and Eddie Mair. But David Lammy and James O'brien make me so mad... they ask for people to call in and are so rude to them. Mostly a caller is trying to say something and they just get talked over or talked down which is infuriating.

lilyfire · 19/05/2021 23:08

@girl71 I used to listen in the 80’s too. Sunday night was my favourite with the mystery guest and some kind of quiz. I liked Philip Hodgson taking personal, emotional and sexual problems - which was basically my second Ed ( that and Anna and the Capital Doc on Capital).
Also liked Douglas Cameron and Bob Holness’ breakfast show.
And Clive Bull’s Sunday afternoon show which included broadcasting a long undulating whine that you could tape and apparently use in your Spectrum ZX

Chickenqueen · 19/05/2021 23:14

I am Nick Abbott’s no.1 fan, he’s funny, intelligent and not afraid to tell the crazies that ring in what’s what!

Akire · 20/05/2021 00:10

Clive is back at the weekends after 1am.

PloptheBarnOwl · 20/05/2021 00:24

I used to listen to LBC in the mid-90s. Mostly Mike Allen in the evenings. Robbie Vincent (I think) had a show on Sunday lunchtimes playing vintage comedy records, which I loved- lots of Bob Newhart and Mel Brooks.

TheNestedIf · 20/05/2021 01:40

I haven't listened for over 10 years but I can't believe how many of you like Steve Allen. TinyGlassOwl is right. He is unpleasant to people in general and women in particular. I also remember him for being skin-crawlingly creepy over a then 17 year old Daniel Radcliffe who, at the time, was starring in Equus.

StCharlotte · 20/05/2021 08:06

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

Oh how I miss Clive Bull
Way back in 2006, we listened when it was still London Broadcasting Company and Clive Bull seemed to be on a permanent anti-Olympics (London 2012) rant. We then moved away for a decade and I often wonder if he ever came round to the idea and whether he ended up eating his words? Can any long-time listeners tell me?

Also I really like Tom Swarbrick although he was very gloomy at the beginning of the pandemic so we endured Today in Parliament for a while to cheer ourselves up Grin

skippy67 · 20/05/2021 09:14

Cannot stand Shelagh Fogarty. So preachy on anything covid related. Also hate the way she ramps up her "Scouse" accent when anyone from Liverpool or thereabouts rings in. Like JOB, but he can be a bit of a dickhead, and is incredibly thin skinned for someone who can be so rude to others. Also cannot stand Nick Ferrari.

linerforlife · 20/05/2021 09:18

I love LBC! I think you get such a balanced view of current events by listening

Shmithecat2 · 20/05/2021 09:20

JOB was always insufferable. Unbelievably, even more so since he's had some therapy. Did I mentioned he's had therapy? JOB does. All the time. He's had therapy. Did he mention that he's had therapy? Ugh.

I quite like Maajid. He's got a fascinating personal history. Sheila Fogarty is ok. Eddie Mair too. I think it's his voice - very 'listenable'.

the80sweregreat · 20/05/2021 16:35

JOB is ok in very small doses , but I do hate how he shoe horns in his privileged background, the catholic private school he attended, his dad, his kids etc etc every time.
I don't mind Nick ( if he lets the callers speak )
