Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

@Bearyhumcrack

Resurrecting this briefly, I'm so anxious I'm shaking. I've just been sent by my boss, a screenshot of a photo of me as a child and he's asked me to tell him if it's me. I have no idea where it's come from. It could be from my Facebook account?

SAR is ready to go. I wonder if I should submit it now.

Wtf this is absolutely mental

I'd be seeking external legal advice

bonfireheart · 31/05/2021 12:48

OP, I would demand an immediate meeting. I would say I cannot and will not work under these circumstances. And until they set up that meeting I am off with stress leave. Get talking to the unions and set up a meeting...regardless of where your manager is or when you see them, this needs to be sorted now. I'm not what they or you are waiting for.

Bearyhumcrack · 02/06/2021 19:12

I am on annual leave this week but have had a couple of chats with rep who is now responding on my behalf. What we think now is that someone has liked something and I know the liker or have some connection to them. I surely can't be responsible for what people like though? Even if I know them? I don't know if I do know them but I don't see how it makes a difference. I don't know everyone who follows me and obviously many people have pseudonyms which aren't clear. Plus how could I know it had been liked!! I'm Expressing my frustration here, just a rant.

I do need to take some time off so will speak to the dr, I have a follow up call
Next week when I will explain that I'm not coping. There doesn't seem to be enough air in the air anymore. Can't stop yawning!

The whole thing makes no sense, so what if you know someone who liked something on a nameless social media platform?

The baby photo is next level weird though, how can that be relevant to anything.

I think you're being remarkable patient about the whole thing. I don't know if it would be the right thing to do but I'd be nailing down ith the manager exactly what the issue is. It's over 2 weeks later and you don't have any solid information on what is going on.

Is it possible for you to speak to the manager and literally not finish the conversation until you know what is going on with a witness listening in?

AngelDelightUk · 02/06/2021 19:25

Is the union rep able to speak to your boss to get further information? Something isn’t right

Bearyhumcrack · 02/06/2021 19:29

I'm doing everything via rep and we are expecting some questions to be answered this week. I don't think I could sit in a meeting with my boss, the thought is beyond what I think I could bear.

Rep did tell him how inappropriate the photograph was and I'm not sure has had a response yet.

I am trying to be patient because I worry that if I rail against this, they will think I have something to hide. HR policy gives them
6 weeks to investigate so I guess we are half way through that?

I would advise to stay put and if at all possible do not go off with stress. That shows on your work records and is detrimental to you.

You could be asking for reasonable adjustments to ensure you continue to work, including how this matter is dealt with, communication with LM etc.

Don't put your own career at risk through absence if at all possible.

sausagerole · 08/06/2021 13:03

Any update OP? Have been thinking of you and this mystery!

Ringsender2 · 20/06/2021 00:04

Hi @Bearyhumcrack, how are things going for you? Hope it all got resolved with no more drama than needed. Would be interested to hear how things went.

bonfireheart · 20/06/2021 11:31

There's a reason why it's a mystery....

Bearyhumcrack · 20/06/2021 14:11

Oh gosh Only just seen these responses.

The deadline for the investigation to be completed is this Thursday, it's definitely still going on so I am waiting with bated breath to see what comes out of it.

My SAR is due to be completed in 2 weeks so that will inform my response to the investigation. I feel weirdly calm
As I know I haven't done anything but the thought of having a meeting with such an awful man (my LM) really fills me with dread. I will take my union rep obviously but I genuinely do not want to sit in the same room as him.

Sounds like your line manager is making stuff up to get rid of you. Well done for getting the Union involved. I would make a complaint to HR.

ApolloandDaphne · 20/06/2021 14:18

This sounds like a nightmare. I hope you get some resolution soon.

Ringsender2 · 20/06/2021 21:20

Gosh, good luck OP. Glad you're feeling sanguine but also have good support

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 20/06/2021 22:49

Still thinking of you. I would love to know their complaint and what actually happened if you feel up to reporting back.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 20/06/2021 23:52

So weird how they haven’t shown you the screenshots in an investigation meeting yet - what are they faffing around at?

Flowers for you op

TheSugarRefiner · 21/06/2021 00:11

Your line manager sounds like an incompetent bully. Hope this gets resolved soon OP!

Hexinthecity · 23/06/2021 09:40

@Bearyhumcrack I hope you’ve been able to get some rest the last few days, at least there’s a definite Mile post in sight, hopefully an end to it when the investigation turns up nothing, but a mile post at the very least. Your LM sounds totally incompetent and I hope you take it further with the union after you’ve been cleared of any misconduct, he shouldn’t be allowed to get away with causing you so much distress by his ridiculously bad handling of all of this.

Bearyhumcrack · 24/06/2021 21:33

Nothing heard today!! And I'm off on a course for 3 weeks. Rep says that this will add weight to my "defence" and the ensuing complaint we will make.
My SAR is now due before I get back from the course, and line manager has exceeded the investigation timeline quite considerably.

I would laugh if the anxiety wasn't so bad!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 24/06/2021 22:25

Ugh. Prick.

RoisinD · 25/06/2021 13:48

Good luck. Sounds like a nightmare and LM making it worse

Justkeepleft · 25/06/2021 21:57

That sucks it is being drawn out but great that it is obvious you are in the right. Hooe you get clear answers soon.

Bearyhumcrack · 13/07/2021 13:17

I got my SAR back!! And he's said he won't include any information that might jeopardise his investigation. I've done my research and apparently unless it's criminal or tax evasion, that's not a legal exemption so I have written to head office for a review (using ico letter templates).

It is almost 63 days since the first interview. What the fuck is going on!!

Just an update in case anyone else is as frustrated as I am!

OP posts:
accentdusoleil · 13/07/2021 14:28

Thanks for the update . Keep us posted

HereticFanjo · 13/07/2021 14:46

Your boss is an incompetent prick who has started a process he should never have started because he doesn't understand how social media works. He is now doubling down rather than thinking, shit, I really messed up here, I'm so sorry. Keep on keeping on OP ❤
