Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

Bearyhumcrack · 14/05/2021 06:58

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

How frightening for you OP. I hope this is resolved soon. And Shock NamingChanging

pumpkintree · 27/05/2021 17:30

@Bearyhumcrack

It does feel creepy!
Email HR and request all the evidence and Information they have Ask them why you are not being provided with the information.

I would reply back to the image of you.

Why do you need to know if this is me? Can you tell me where the photo is from and what relevance this has with my job?

Bearyhumcrack · 27/05/2021 22:14

@pumpkintree that's articulates what I was trying to say quite well. Because it's causing me such anxiety, I'm going to ask him to contact me via my union rep. It folds me to see an email from him!

I agree with pumpkintree and other PPs.

You need to give a "no comment" response to absolutely everything they ask you until they set out clearly what you're supposed to have done to whom and when.

Your employer is being 100% unprofessional in their investigation of this matter. They have a duty of care to you as an employee even if you are accused of something (even though they won't explain clearly what that is!) They've let it drag on for several weeks and you're now taking sleeping tablets because you're so anxious? No, it's not on at all.

OhTinnitus · 28/05/2021 10:30

This is so awful. I'm angry with your employer on your behalf! I'm not surprised you are feeling anxious.
It sounds like you're taking all the right actions. Are you confiding in people in rl about it and able to talk with them? It might help to be able to tell friends or family and get their support.

Bearyhumcrack · 28/05/2021 18:52

Had a chat with union rep and showed him my notes from the interviews. We've agreed that all emails need to go via him in future as the anxiety they cause me is off the scale.

They put me off my food and there's a good reason I'm fat, I bloody love my food!!

Got a Drs appointment on Tuesday to chat about the anxiety. Bloody hell.

Thank you for the support. It means so much.

I don't understand why someone hasn't sat down and spoken to you yet... if he's got time to screenshot something and email you, he's got time for a chat.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/05/2021 19:16

I've just been sent by my boss, a screenshot of a photo of me as a child and he's asked me to tell him if it's me. I have no idea where it's come from. It could be from my Facebook account?

What in the world is going on? Why would he send you a childhood picture of yourself? What does that have to do with anything? Is this man unhinged? To me, that sounds like pure harassment and intimidation.

Yikes38 · 28/05/2021 19:45

This is so strange! I hope they just sit you down soon and let you know wtf is going on Confused

MinnieJackson · 28/05/2021 19:46

That's absolutely insane behaviour! God I hope you get all this sorted. Could your GP maybe sign you off for a while?

I agree. Very bizarre behaviour - not to mention unprofessional!!
VodkaSlimline · 29/05/2021 11:12

Only just seen this but I have a fake LinkedIn account if you want me to have a look at anything and send you screenshots!

bonfireheart · 29/05/2021 12:22

OP, this has been going on for weeks now. Are you still going to work and speaking to your manager? And yet no one has spoken to you about it? You're just getting cryptic messages? I would demand an immediate meeting for all answers.

Bearyhumcrack · 29/05/2021 15:51

@bonfireheart it has been going on for weeks. My job is slightly odd in that I don't see my LM from one week to the next but he still emails me which isn't doing much for my state of mind.

It's 2 weeks now, when I asked him for a timeline he said he was very busy so couldn't give me one. I will make progress next week I think in submitting the SAR but I may have to get signed off. I feel like someone is sitting on my chest all of the time and I can't sleep. Dr's appointment on Tuesday morning by phone so will see what they say.

@VodkaSlimline very kind offer! I'm confident I haven't done anything on LinkedIn! Or twitter for that matter. I have a feeling I may be being linked by a follower by someone who is gunning for me. So the follower is my connection to an offensive message. He doesn't understand the difference between the two platforms so it's very hard to tell.

What even classes as inappropriate?

Who gets to decide?

thisplaceisweird · 29/05/2021 16:05

How annoying! Hope it's all revealed soon

Outbutnotoutout · 29/05/2021 16:06

I had this recently and its so stressful, I waited 5 months before I was vindicated.

Fingers crossed its nothing and your vindicated soon x

But all

Lumene · 29/05/2021 21:04

I can’t believe the company are allowed to do this. It’s ridiculous.

Hope you are OK OP.

VodkaSlimline · 30/05/2021 11:05

How can someone "not understand the difference between Twitter and LinkedIn"? This is all very strange.

Is it possible that someone has set up an account/accounts in your name and is using them to misbehave with the aim of getting you into trouble?

Bearyhumcrack · 30/05/2021 11:58

@VodkaSlimline I know. He said "tweeted on the LinkedIn website" I kept trying to get him to clarify and in the end he got frustrated with himself and said "I'll call it social media platform and then you can't have anything against me if I have it wrong". Confused

It is possible, I honestly feel like I'm being stitched up but because I don't know what I'm supposed to have done, I can't even work it out.

OP posts:
thisplaceisweird · 30/05/2021 12:14

Do you have existing anxiety op?
Slightly off topic but feeling anxious because you're having a reaction to something stressful happening in your life is perfectly normal and doesn't need medicating

Bearyhumcrack · 30/05/2021 12:30

I do have general anxiety, this has just tipped me over the edge and I've decided to seek help. Thank you for your message.

OP posts:
OhTinnitus · 30/05/2021 12:50

Does your employer know that you have suffered from chronic anxiety OP? As morbid as it sounds, that is something that could work in your favour in the outcome of all this.
They have a duty of care towards you but unfortunately sound utterly useless.

Hope you're feeling okay today Daffodil

Bearyhumcrack · 31/05/2021 09:31

Thank you @OhTinnitus no they don't but I do wonder if I should speak to occupational health.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 31/05/2021 11:18

My guestimation is that maybe you have liked something and that has shown up in a newsfeed. But he thinks you have actively shared it. Could that be it?
