Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

I'm not surprised you couldn't find a solicitor to help. Most will only get involved when you're on the brink of resigning and claiming constructive unfair dismissal, or after the event. From your post you clearly want to stay for now at least. Also, legal advice tends to costs quite a lot.

I don't act for individuals, but I've had plenty of friends and acquaintances get my advice informally. My first question is always what do you want the outcome to be? Until you know that, you can't really plan the best approach. Obviously lots is outside of your control (like the completion of the investigation!).

Bearyhumcrack · 28/01/2022 16:38

Thank you @level75 that's a good place to start! Clearly right now I just want this all to stop but when I look at it, I need to make sure it's not damaged my reputation etc. Difficult to know whilst it's still dragging on.

@Bearyhumcrack hope you're slowly getting answers. Stay strong.

Justkeepleft · 11/02/2022 23:15

Thinking of you too

JaniceBattersby · 12/02/2022 00:08

Oh my word I can’t believe this is still going on! They think you might have encouraged someone to like a post on Twitter nearly a year ago?! It’s fucking ludicrous. This would be laughed out of the door in my workplace. To put it in context, I whistleblew publicly about my org to our trade press and my manager called me into a meeting, asked if I was going to do it again, and when I said no because the situation had been resolved, he said ok, that’s that then. And I cracked on.

Grrrpredictivetex · 21/02/2022 14:32

@Bearyhumcrack do hope you've got some closure on this. Absolutely ridiculous how you've been treated.

Bearyhumcrack · 21/02/2022 18:58

Ah hello @Grrrpredictivetex well... no closure yet although I have been sent boss's response to my disclosure of the recordings. He's obviously accused me of editing the recordings, I must have edited them copiously to cover all of the lies that he's told. Anyway, it's so egregious it's actually amused me.

So I will spend some time thinking about my response to this, in the mean time - he's due to receive my complaint about him around now so that pleases me somewhat.

I guess I just need to spend some time detailing his lies and how he's tied himself up with them. I wish they would just bugger off now though, it's almost 10 months since he started this!

It just sounds so awful. Are you still having to work with him?

Bearyhumcrack · 21/02/2022 19:13

I've only set eyes on him once this year. My "functional" boss who I work with is great so that's how I'm coping!

As an aside... anyone know how to extract metadata from a voice memo?

This is such madness! I can’t believe you’ve been treated this way.

I don't know the legalities, but as they are viewed by the public I would presume they cannot withhold the articles from you ? There could also be other factors involved or that they are using this, as a way to uncover some other information that they know about, but this other information may have been given in confidence, so they need an official way to "rediscover" the confidential information.

I've left my Mac at my dad's so will look on Thursday. I'm just using my phone now but v tempted to commission a proper forensic report and submit that!

To be honest, if you can get forensics then why not, certainly adds more credibility to your case.
Bearyhumcrack · 21/02/2022 19:58

@Hawkins001 I've sent off a contact form for a couple of companies. Unfortunately it comes down to cost! Hopefully not prohibitive.

Oh my goodness Op - I've just read your thread. This is absolutely shocking treatment of you and I can't believe they've let it go for this long. I certainly hope you get it resolved soon and also get a great deal of compensation.

bitchinofhitchen · 21/02/2022 21:40

How the hell is this still on going? I work in hr in the public sector and this is utterly embarrassing to read from a professional perspective. I don't know or recognise your complaint but I don't understand how it can be running on for so long.

SameToo · 21/02/2022 22:04

I can’t believe this is still going on! It must be incredibly difficult! I really hope you get some answers very soon.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 21/02/2022 22:53

Bloody hell @Bearyhumcrack he just keeps digging doesn't he?!

Who does he think you are, Steven Spielberg?!

stevalnamechanger · 21/02/2022 23:07

Just read everything . Sending you strength to hopefully get through the end of this !

labyrinthlaziness · 21/02/2022 23:07

I don't understand how or why the organisation has allowed this to go on for so long.

Brew for you op, you must be knackered.

CaribouCarafe · 21/02/2022 23:15

Bloody hell, in my organisation he would have been laughed out of the office at the first hint of any of this bullshit...and then he would've been told to pack his bags and fuck off.

Seriously, there's better jobs out there for you...after you clear your name at this organisation and have successfully shown him up to be the pillock he is.

Whatamesssss · 22/02/2022 07:42

Surely the onus is on him to prove that the voice recordings have been tampered with, why do you have to prove it?

funder · 22/02/2022 08:11

Oh wow. I've just read through this thread. I'm so sorry you've had to deal with this mess but I must say you have been incredibly strong. Hang in there OP.

marqueses · 22/02/2022 08:21

Its insane that this is still going on, you boss clearly knows you're going to win and has taken the Prince Andrew stance that the recording(photo) must have been doctored

I'd imagine it must be possible to confirm from the original that hasn't happened

Hopefully you are on the home straight now.
