Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

Did they let you know when they intend to get back to you??

DaisyNGO · 08/11/2021 21:06

I'm still confused what you are being accused of, they all sound mad.

Bearyhumcrack · 09/11/2021 09:49

@DaisyNGO I've posted or influenced someone to post a derogatory comment on twitter. Allegedly. Confused

OP what a nightmare and what a ridiculous thing.

I hope it all gets sorted soon.

astoundedgoat · 09/11/2021 09:56

I can't believe this is still dragging out for you. What a hill for your boss to die on.

Solidarity.

And has anyone shown you even a screenshot of what the allegedly derogatory comment on Twitter was?

Is there any proof it even existed?

Do you know who the person you are supposed to have influenced was?

Siriisatwat · 09/11/2021 15:58

I really hope you can sue their arse for this.

catndogslife · 09/11/2021 17:40

OP how often do you use Linkedin?
I noticed something odd a few weeks ago and someone else had added something to one of my posts. The post was a few months old.
I am wondering if this is what has happened to you.

Bearyhumcrack · 09/11/2021 18:21

@cabingirl I have now seen it and it's so utterly clearly not me. I don't know who I'm supposed to have influenced, it seems we aren't concerned with who actually owns the account!

@catndogslife it transpires that it was nothing to do with LinkedIn, my boss didn't know the difference between that and twitter. I rarely use LinkedIn but it's worrying to hear that it's possible for that to happen to you! Stay vigilant!

This is absolutely mad. You must be mentally exhausted. I still can’t believe it is rumbling on.

LanaDelBoy · 09/11/2021 18:47

my boss didn't know the difference between that and twitter.

What a fucking div. He sees a site with the url twitter.com with a little blue bird logo full of things labelled "Tweets" and concludes he's on the LinkedIn website.

Bearyhumcrack · 09/11/2021 18:52

I am absolutely exhausted, someone in work today asked if I was ok and said I looked tired (from a genuine place of concern), I said "I am tired but unfortunately I don't think a good night's sleep is going to help me".

I’ve been following this from the start and I can’t tell you the anger I have felt on your behalf. The whole thing is utter madness and defies belief. You have been incredible and I hope you took some comfort from the support on here.
Hope he rots in hell and that you are compensated for the mental torture.

Bearyhumcrack · 09/11/2021 19:34

@Milomonster the support on here has been amazing, thank you so much.

acatcalledjohn · 09/11/2021 19:39

So hold on, that is the end of it? Other than the grievance you submitted, that is.

Not that I'm asking for more drama (I really hope not for your sake, though I'd like to see him get his comeuppance), but has your manager now dropped the allegations after all of the stress he put you through?

I've not posted before but this has been the most bonkers employment issues thread in a long, long time.

eurochick · 09/11/2021 20:20

What the hell? They put you through all this for nothing?!?

Justkeepleft · 09/11/2021 20:42

I hope the advice they get is to fire the idiot.
He had profoundly mishandled this, the original issue he raised has been dwarfed by his incompetence.

Bearyhumcrack · 09/11/2021 21:14

It's not finished yet. There's still the decision to be made on my "guilt". I will post a better explanation soon but my boss has just not investigated it. His report (plus my evidence) will decide whether I get a warning or whatevs. It's a long way from over. I'm not going to roll over on this.

FlowerFlour · 09/11/2021 21:16

Wow I remember reading this at the time, I can't believe it's still going on.

You have fine so well to stay strong this whole time OP. Hopefully your company realises your boss is a complete liability and he is removed.

Chimley · 09/11/2021 21:32

I've been following this from the start and it's always been absolute madness you've been accused of this. I hope you get the justice you deserve.

cabingirl · 09/11/2021 21:59

Whether YOU get a warning? That's madness! You haven't done anything wrong.

Do you know, or suspect who reported the tweet in the first place?

Is the tweet in question actually serious enough for the initial reaction IF you had done it?

acatcalledjohn · 09/11/2021 23:20

Words fail me.

He'd better die on that hill now. It's only fair.

WeatherwaxLives · 10/11/2021 07:20

Totally understand you don't want to get into specifics, but this tweet you supposedly influenced - is it something that could be called inside information? That only someone at your workplace would know?

I'm so confused about why on earth they think it was specifically YOU?!

So glad you've had legal advice. Have you told HR or whoever is investigating you've spoken to a solicitor? Might make them stop and think about how batshit your manager is and how damaging to the business he could be.

Backofthenet20 · 11/11/2021 14:24

Keep strong OP. Did you get any update yet from HR?

Bearyhumcrack · 16/11/2021 20:39

HR have asked for the recordings and transcripts as part of my response to the disciplinary. I'm still not convinced about this but I have lots to put in an appeal and then there's the complaint.
