Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

you need to get legal advice. And your defence of recording the meeting is because you know he lies about you.

Daftapath · 13/10/2021 11:39

I also agree that you need some legal advice and representation. Your home insurance may cover you for this.
It may just take you going in with 'big guns' to make him back down. I hope so!

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 16/10/2021 07:29

I suggest you lawyer up now and propose to lawyer the following course of action:- You transcript the meeting easily, using dragon software or similar. Then you reduce the transcript down to the key discussion items by removing all the irrelevant stuff, email the transcript to them both and tell to tell them that as far as you recall, from that ‘attached meeting notes’ no evidence was presented and can they please retract their inaccurate claims. No need to tell them the transcript came from a recording. Then, if they lie again in writing telling you that you are incorrect, they can’t wriggle out later by claiming they got mixed up or similar.

Justilou1 · 26/10/2021 11:09

No updates @Bearyhumcrack? You must be so bloody over it!!

PegasusReturns · 26/10/2021 11:22

Jeez I can’t believe this is still going on.

I know you said a complaint cannot be considered whilst an investigation is ongoing but I think now is the time to escalate.

Justkeepleft · 04/11/2021 19:38

Any news op? I hope you are holding up ok.

Bearyhumcrack · 04/11/2021 20:33

Ah hi @Justkeepleft was planning on an update today after receiving legal advice.

Obvs I'm going to keep it vague but the advice has been that him lying is way worse than misconduct of secretly recording the meeting (and I have mitigations that I won't detail here) so I'm going to write to his next higher boss who currently has the report boss has written about me. I'm going to declare that I have the recordings/transcripts, call out the lies he's told in his investigation and report, and see what happens.

Legal advice was that there's a potential civil case for injury to my MH (given that this has caused me to need treatment) and I'm hoping that the organisation will realise that. Additionally, because of recent reports/wrongdoings by the organisation, if they don't take my letter seriously, it is almost certainly pressworthy.

So, watch this space.

At least you have a plan to move forward.

It's so horrendous that he's done this.

Alpinechalet · 04/11/2021 21:09

OP, I know you are probably joking about it being newsworthy. Please do not go to the press as this will backfire as it is a public sector organisation. Familiarise yourself with the prescribe persons who you can whistleblow to under Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA). www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-for-auditors-and-independent-examiners-of-charities/the-public-interest-disclosure-act--2

PIDA was set up after a spate of disclosures to the press to provide a route to whistleblow so going to the press is now not a valid option. PIDA means you don’t breach GDPR, Official Secrets Act, CS Code, security rules etc.

Thanks for the update, I know it takes time and is stressful but patience and persistence should see you vindicated.

Bearyhumcrack · 04/11/2021 21:18

Thank you @Alpinechalet, you're quite right, I meant it will be of public interest but that's a great link which I have now bookmarked.

Oh my goodness, op! Well done for recording it.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 04/11/2021 21:50

Bloody well done.

ChimChimeny · 04/11/2021 21:51

Good thinking to record it, what a wanker he is. I really hope he gets his comeuppance!

user1000000000009 · 04/11/2021 22:00

I hope you manage to get some sort of resolution this op, it sounds so stressful.

DaisyNGO · 04/11/2021 22:05

@Bearyhumcrack

Thank you *@Alpinechalet*, you're quite right, I meant it will be of public interest but that's a great link which I have now bookmarked.
Is he STILL accusing you of whatever nonsense he has misunderstood?

I'm speechless. I feel for you Flowers

Justkeepleft · 05/11/2021 05:54

I am glad you have a way forward. It is reductions he has been able to stall things this long without repercussions.
I hooe that provides the swift kick to clear it all. You are amazing in such a tough situation.

financialadvicenc · 05/11/2021 14:25

Insanity! He's going to look like SUCH a massive bellend

Bearyhumcrack · 05/11/2021 14:33

@financialadvicenc I hope so!! I've written the letter and will send it on Monday. Part of me thinks there will be a cover up...

If there is it will only be after you receive a hefty payout at this stage. You have leverage. I know this has been hard; well done for sticking at it.

Justilou1 · 06/11/2021 01:53

I’m predicting all of the varieties of skidmarks.

RavingAnnie · 06/11/2021 02:35

@Bearyhumcrack

There were some comments about my mental health in there, I don't know how he knows that I have anxiety but he said "it's only anxiety, it's not like she's self harming". I'm not quite sure what to do with this though.

I'm really disappointed that he's minimising it like this but not surprised. I am absolutely going to go after him because he is totally failing. Rep is good though and has been on to the right people so will try to press it home next week.

Still RTFT but that comment is fucking appalling, and he left that in a meeting invite accessible to all and sundry!?! Fuck me.
Justilou1 · 06/11/2021 03:04

I sued my ex employers (an airline) because I was badly injured in a failed landing. (Broken coccyx and several ruptured discs) What’s worse, the guy who landed the plane was going for his captaincy - and was promoted. (All the crew were injured, btw.) I didn’t know at the time, but I was also pregnant. This nature of this injury impacted my pregnancy and my childbirth. I had issues picking up my baby at times, and my DH travelled a lot for work. When the airline’s counsel and mine sat around the table smarmy lawyer asked why I couldn’t “Just ask my mother to come and stay and help with childcare…”
I pointed out that it wasn’t the 1950’s. I explained that just because someone was a grandmother, it didn’t automatically mean that they were a little old lady who sat around at home crocheting baby clothes, waiting with bated breath for the honor of being asked to babysit. I told them that my mother had done her time raising kids, and had returned to university when we were finishing high school and then entered the full-time work-force as a nurse - a job she found fulfilling and mentally stimulating, but also financially necessary. Then I pointed out that my father had retired, but they hadn’t asked if he was interested or capable of helping out - as it was, he wasn’t either of those things as he had Motor Neurone Disease. Caring for my dying father was the other thing that filled in my mother’s time when she wasn’t working, btw.

Bearyhumcrack · 06/11/2021 09:56

@RavingAnnie I know. It's phenomenal.

CliffsofMohair · 07/11/2021 10:42

Holy cow. OP you’re a superstar for pursuing this. Your boss is a scumbag.

Bearyhumcrack · 08/11/2021 19:15

Sent in a letter declaring my additional evidence today, asking that it is considered and what they would like me to do with it.

They're taking advice...
