Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

Bearyhumcrack · 14/05/2021 06:58

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

@thecatsthecats

At this stage, I would definitely submit to both. With a statement that if you don't have a response within 48h and an immediate action plan within one week, you will escalate it further - to dickhead's new boss's boss.

Imagine you're new in post, and you find that a subordinate has been fucking around. Remember, this is the man to whom your grievance is most relevant. You don't want dickhead getting his side of the story in first - my guess is that he's trying to shove this under the carpet and hasn't made him aware yet.

This definately. Do not give anyone the chance to "lose" it
Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 27/09/2021 11:56

Both! Belt and braces approach is needed

thecatsthecats · 27/09/2021 12:42

Another thing to consider is that this new guy has an opportunity to get rid of a liability on his team, and has a lot to gain by saying "I joined a team with x issues, resolved them, now the team is high-functioning".

Which is what I can say in interviews having taken over a team being poorly managed and kicking them into shape!

Ringsender2 · 28/09/2021 11:10

Hi @Bearyhumcrack how are you doing? Are you in work at the moment, or signed-off? I can't remember.

Also, I can't remember, is there a reason you haven't submitted your grievances (or complaint) yet? You seem to be gathering more and more information when surely you'd be better to just get the thing in as it's already outrageous enough!?

Good luck with it all, anyway. It sounds awful, even though you know it's crazy and unreasonable.

Bearyhumcrack · 28/09/2021 20:55

Hi @Ringsender2 the policy is that they won't investigate a grievance whilst a conduct investigation is ongoing so there's no point submitting it until that's over. As you've identified, I'm collating more and more evidence as the weeks roll by!

I expect some movement in the next week. Rep says he's been issued an ultimatum to "shit or get off the pot" so to speak. I fully expect him to double down but I cannot see any way he will be able to do this with evidence...

I promise I will update as soon as I hear!!

Wow… he’s going to need a looooot of laxatives to shit enough to disclose all the crap you’ve got on him I suspect. (Can hear the sound of future flushing.)

SaltySheepdog · 29/09/2021 03:34

Awful man!

Clutterbugsmum · 29/09/2021 05:40

The policy is that they won't investigate a grievance whilst a conduct investigation is ongoing so there's no point submitting it until that's over.

The trouble is with this is the person who has caused the grievance can delay and delay the 'conduct' investigation so they can't be held accountable for their actions.

He has had nearly 6 months to get his 'investigation' done, surely he has found the evidence he needs by now.

Oblomov21 · 29/09/2021 06:26

Surely this thread should have been moved to the employment section long ago? So that flowery or one of the other skilled and knowledgeable people could give you proper advice?

LaBellina · 29/09/2021 06:33

Are you sure that someone with the same name as you hasn’t posted or tweeted anything offensive? And even if it’s an account with your photo and name on it, how easy is it these days to set up a fake account pretending to be someone you hate then start posting/liking/sharing whatever nasty stuff that you know will get them in trouble at work. I would demand to see screenshots or a link, if they can’t produce those I would consider this a form of bullying and work harassment as they’re accusing you of something that they can’t show evidence of and thus you can’t defend yourself against these allegations. Instead of being scared, you should be pissed that they try to treat you in this shitty way and if I were you, I would give them a deadline to produce the evidence. No evidence? Straight to HR/ Union/ solicitor if necessary.

lydia2021 · 29/09/2021 06:40

I would be asking for clear evidence of their accusations

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 29/09/2021 06:51

@lydia2021

I would be asking for clear evidence of their accusations
She has...quite a long time ago. This is a very long thread...
Justilou1 · 30/09/2021 00:21

You must be getting very tired of “Next week” @Bearyhumcrack… I really hope this gets nailed down soon. I have been there in the past (different sort of situation - was severely injured at work. Was followed everywhere by bloody private investigators for nearly three years. Must have been so fascinating for them, not.) and know the stress.

Bearyhumcrack · 30/09/2021 16:18

White smoke! Well, sort of a grey mist...

I have received a report and an interview, I am now accused of influencing someone to post on twitter.

Very interesting! Nothing about Linkedin, predictably.

My LM absolutely lied all the way through the interview. My rep took incredibly detailed notes and LM is disputing pretty much everything in there. Including saying he has never accused me of posting anything! He says my rep's notes are just their opinion and his opinion is different, my LM didn't take notes but he's relying on notes he took after the previous meetings.

Seems to think he's teflon because of his grade. Anyway. Much to think about, I actually feel better even though it's a long way from over!

OP posts:
cabingirl · 30/09/2021 16:32

Do you know who you are supposed to have influenced and what they wrote yet?

Justkeepleft · 30/09/2021 19:06

About time they said what they are accusing you of. Now you know without a doubt you did nothing even close to it.
Here is hoping the Teflon is under his feet as he slides disgraced out of his role.

Elllbell · 30/09/2021 20:29

Glad you're feeling better with a bit more info. It's still being dragged out though. Bastard.

Justilou1 · 01/10/2021 00:10

What… a…worm!!!

CrikeyPeg · 01/10/2021 01:11

Oh my gosh, what a weasely worm! So still no real information, ie who you influenced and what was said? I'd be inclined to very obviously record absolutely all interactions from now on. Hindsight being what it is, it would have been fabulous if you'd known how this whole thing was going to play out and could have recorded anything right from the get-go. Sheesh.

Ringsender2 · 01/10/2021 06:00

Good grief!

Does that mean you can now submit your grievance? (Thanks for the explanation why you haven't/can't yet by the way - what a crap system - as a PP said above it could just be extended indefinitely by their stalling).

Good luck for the next stage OP. You seem to have a bit of a sense of humour about it, which is good to see (in that it's not getting you down completely).

HermannlovesPauline · 01/10/2021 09:51

Get your grievance in!

SunsetCastle · 01/10/2021 11:17

I hope you're ok. This all sounds very stressful!

Milomonster · 01/10/2021 12:40

I’m aghast now as much as I was when I first read your post. I cannot believe you have been dragged through this. I can’t imagine the toll it has taken. I hope you get justice and an end to this soon. Utterly appalling.

Bearyhumcrack · 01/10/2021 12:49

I'm ok thank you. Medication is holding up!! I need to write my representation to this investigation (that has a deadline) and the grievance will go in after that.

I just don't know how I can influence someone like that! I wish I bloody could.

OP posts:
RandomMess · 01/10/2021 12:57

Have you even been provided with a screen shot or any evidence of what was written?
