Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

Bearyhumcrack · 14/05/2021 06:58

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

A slowly slowly approach is very sensible. The only note of caution is if you want to take this outside your employer e.g. by lodging an ET1. You could lodge an ET1 and your employer would ask for a stay whilst they go through internal processes. Your TU are better placed to advise.

Sorry I can’t really help with abuse of process, I would say it is more failure to follow the prescribed process/timelines.

Pieceofpurplesky · 03/09/2021 18:27

Just rtt. What a nightmare!

Bearyhumcrack · 03/09/2021 18:58

@Alpinechalet thank you. We have discussed ET1, the advice was to submit just after the internal complaint. In order to not be "out of time" totally understand about the internal process and that's quite right IMO!

Very sensible approach to exhaust internal process first. The ET1 approach is a heavy handed push to do the internal process in a timely manner but can be effective in the right situation.

Magenta82 · 04/09/2021 03:22

Sounds like a nightmare, good luck OP.

LuvMyBubbles · 04/09/2021 03:46

Thinking of you.

Ringsender2 · 04/09/2021 20:04

Wtf!!!!! Sorry for you that it's like this. Have you had any communications with HR, or your boss's boss, etc? I hope the stress levels are manageable. Sounds like you've got great Union support, which must help you feel less alone.

Onehotmess · 05/09/2021 00:08

Can’t believe this is still going on! 😱 hope you are feeling better Op and get some answers soon.

Bearyhumcrack · 05/09/2021 08:20

I'm quite resigned tbh. I'm pleased I have a "big gun" going in to bat for me as he is such a coward! And it's a woman which he will hate even more.

This is one of the weirdest threads ever. How can you be subject to all this without any clarity on what it is they are actually accusing you of?

Hope you get sorted, sounds like an awful situation.

Bearyhumcrack · 05/09/2021 08:48

@Obviouspretzel makes no sense to me either. Whenever we quote policy at him... we are told that it's only guidelines. Utterly ridiculous.

I've only just read this thread OP but I just wanted to express my sheer shock at your line mangers behaviour and support for you.

It raises a couple of questions for me. Was the original complaint from another member of staff, are they acting in cahoots or is this actually your line manager trying to bully or dispense with you? To accuse you of something and then be so vague and imprecise and then pull out a childhood photo of you is bafflingly strange.

Secondly I don't see how he can be carrying out an 'investigation' without involving you, showing you the evidence, screenshots etc and giving you the opportunity to respond.

And finally I'm not clear what part HR has had in this process - if it's an investigation and your line manager is supposedly looking into a complaint about you surely they would be involved and advising or steering the process?

Sorry if I've missed something. I'm not writing this to question your account but in total support and sympathy for you. It's horrendous how he's treated you and I hope it ends up with him being sacked.

Bearyhumcrack · 06/09/2021 10:48

Thank you @Bouledeneige!

To try to answer... I think the original complaint was from a contractor.

I totally agree. He asked a few questions in May and then nothing since. No idea what he's doing as my social media is locked down.

My rep has contacted the HR branch that deals with this, they've said that the timelines are "guidelines only" so really no idea what bits of policy we are supposed to follow and what bits we can view as guidelines. Ridiculous.

He sent a really shitty reply to rep (and big gun) on Friday so they can now see first hand what he's like. Hoping for update from
Big gun today!

Sorry to read this is still ongoing. You have great patience. Good luck with your efforts to resolve.

Justkeepleft · 06/09/2021 21:36

I hope you have the satisfaction you deserve soon. Your manager is ridiculous.

Divebar2021 · 06/09/2021 21:50

It must be so gratifying to be investigated by someone who doesn’t know the difference between LinkedIn and Twitter Hmm

I’m interested in how the photo ties in with the allegation. Is it possible you posted the photo was on another social media account and it’s been stolen by someone else who is now impersonating you somewhere online? If this photo is available anywhere else online ( even in a limited capacity ) then you would have a defence. I would try a reverse image search on the photo if you have it and see if you can identify anywhere else that’s using it.

Bearyhumcrack · 06/09/2021 22:22

@Divebar2021 it's remarkable. If it wasn't happening to me, I wouldn't believe it tbh!

Good shout on the image search. I might have to get a friend to do it as looking at the picture makes me anxious to be honest.

This is incredible. I feel so sorry for you!

I cannot believe they haven't disclosed what this mysterious tweet/LinkedIn post is. That should have been done at the very first fact finding interview, surely?

"Here is a print out of the post that I have reason to believe you're involved with. Can you confirm/deny whether you are linked to this post please?"

That would alleviate the anxiety that it is bound to cause you. Instead, this prick has piled it on.

I hope this manager's boss will have his guts for garters!

Hugoslavia · 09/09/2021 21:35

He's backed himself into a corner hasn't he OP. He can't respond because he has nothing more to say/doesn't know how to progress the original complaint in the absence of any evidence. I would also be getting HR to explain where in the procedure rules is says that they are for guidance only. Also perhaps enquire as to whether breaching the guidance would result in any consequences.

Justilou1 · 09/09/2021 23:45

I guess it’s really hard to do anything when you’ve shot yourself in both feet and one hand…. He needs the last hand to pull the trigger but he knows that the next extremity he aims at will undoubtedly be fatal.

Magenta82 · 10/09/2021 09:11

It just seems absolutely nuts that they are leaving this hanging over you, where is their sense of fair process?

Bearyhumcrack · 10/09/2021 16:54

@Justilou1 that made me smile. I will update below how he's managed to further shoot himself.

@Magenta82 rep asked for an update this week and he said it's nowhere in policy that he has to update me so he won't.

However, I was doing some diary surfing to see if he had time to respond to a longer request from rep... and I found a meeting scheduled with an awful lot of detail about me which was clearly available to everyone in the wider organisation (tens of thousands of people).

So I have reported him to the CIO, again, and will add this to my official complaint which is almost ready!

O.m.f.g.

HR types - is there a chance his head will actually roll for that?

greyinganddecaying · 10/09/2021 20:51

@Bearyhumcrack that is shocking. Was it about this issue or information in general? It's pretty poor either way.

RandomMess · 10/09/2021 21:36

🤦🏼‍♀️

He's a total idiot isn't he!!
