Accused of posting on someone's LinkedIn...

I work in a public sector organisation and have been called in by my line manager to say that I have posted something offensive on someone's LinkedIn page and of causing offensive comments on twitter. Confused

I have a LinkedIn account but don't use it much, I do remember following and unfollowing this person a few months ago but no recollection of posting on their page. Is there a way I can check whether I commented without looking at their profile? I know they can see if I have looked at them and I don't want them to make any more allegations about me.

Web content can be manipulated on peoples browsers so screen shots are not the evidence that people think they are. Hmm

Randomdogbite · 10/08/2021 10:14

This must be so stressful for you. You sound like you are doing really well, I’m hoping they aren’t dragging it out so you just lose steam and give up, keep going and make sure to enjoy your annual leave!

@Bearyhumcrack

Resurrecting this briefly, I'm so anxious I'm shaking. I've just been sent by my boss, a screenshot of a photo of me as a child and he's asked me to tell him if it's me. I have no idea where it's come from. It could be from my Facebook account?

SAR is ready to go. I wonder if I should submit it now.

Do a reverse image search for this picture, and see if any social media accounts come up.

I'm late to this thread but wanted to send best wishes OP. I hope that not only will you be cleared but LM will face repercussions for false allegations, not following procedure, and causing distress.

AffableApple · 10/08/2021 10:21

Sorry, I see this i an older thread that I'm late to. All the best, OP.

Xenia · 10/08/2021 10:23

Good luck with submitting the complaint. t is utterly appalling you have not been told what you did.We had something similar with my student son. he did not have car accident. His insurance company has recently paid out on it to the "victim". We have asked for nearly 18 months for the evidence against him - apparently he parked and bumped another car (although he is sure he did not - someone who parked there earlier must have done). They then said to me data protection law meant you could not show the perpetrator the alleged victim's evidence, not even the statement by them. that makes no sense to me as a lawyer. It is a first principle of almost all legal systems that you get to hear the case against you. In my son's case it is all over now and we just have to live with it but that is only a car insurance claim and covered by insurance. With these employment cases it is a fundamental issue of natural justice never mind English law that you are told early on what is being said about you so you can defend yourself and provide your side of things.

sloutside · 10/08/2021 10:34

Also late to this thread.
The behaviour of the line manager is appalling. If they are accusing you of something they need to say what it is and provide evidence.

Hope it gets sorted out soon.

Kiki06 · 10/08/2021 10:37

I think that you have already recognised yourself how good this will be for your mindset in the long run. I stood up to a bullying employer. It went on for 18 months and my union were pretty crap tbh. I don’t feel that he got the comeuppance that he deserved but I was able to move on so much stronger as a person and have a lot more value in my worth! And it is an amazing sense of achievement to stand up to a bully! ‘Dignity at Work’ is the least that you can expect so try to feel less anxious in yourself, knowing that you are doing the right thing. Good luck 💐💐💐

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 10/08/2021 10:45

@Bearyhumcrack just read your thread and this is crazy. You're doing really well coping with anxiety as well as a shite boss. I really hope he gets his ass handed to him.

Killahangilion · 10/08/2021 12:00

@Bearyhumcrack

I'm drinking far too much! But having a pretty chilled time. I will update when anything changes. Thank you for the support, it really helps!
OP, you’re doing really well and I’m glad you’ve sorted out some therapy to help you manage your anxiety. CBT and hypnotism can also help hugely with anxiety issues.

However, please, please don’t use alcohol as a form of self medication. It will increase your anxiety when you’re sober and can be very difficult to control by yourself, if your alcohol consumption starts to get excessive.

Take care of yourself.

Bearyhumcrack · 10/08/2021 12:13

@Killahangilion thank you, alcohol definitely does make my anxiety worse! It's been a collision of events, one year anniversary of mum dying (met with the family), a couple of reunions etc. So I'm happy it's more of a social thing than a crutch but I really appreciate that advice!

You really need to get ACAS involved. They can arbitrate! www.acas.org.uk/dispute-resolution

50ShadesOfCatholic · 10/08/2021 13:16

This is SO bonkers. And awful. What a truly terrible line manager you have and what an abysmal organisation.

Many years ago I was accused of something underhand at work and like you, they wouldn't show me their "evidence". The whole thing was bizarre.

I called their bluff and sued, was awarded a year's salary.

QuimReaper · 10/08/2021 15:27

I've just found this thread - it's so bizarre! The 'Tweeted on LinkedIn' thing made me roll my eyes, it must be so frustrating when it's such an anxiety-inducing situation and your boss doesn't even know the actual first thing about what he's talking about in order to explain what you're supposed to have done. Based on the fact that he's clearly hardly even heard of either platform I assume he's parroting an allegation made by a third party, and he should have got the facts straight or involved someone who understands these things before escalating it. I bet he has a 10yo family member who could have dispelled whatever this misunderstanding is in 2 minutes flat.

The childhood picture thing is the strangest part of all this. Presumably it's supposed to prove some social media profile is yours. I can't see why you'd put such a picture on LinkedIn, but have you been tagged in it on Facebook by a sibling or parent at some point over the years? I'm sure you'd remember if you'd Tweeted it.

BecauseMyRingBurnsSheila · 10/08/2021 16:16

This is just an absolute shower of shit. I'm so sorry you're going through this OP. Something I learnt the hard way is HR processes are designed to protect the organisation not the employees. Which may help to explain why none of your reasonable requests are being listened to.

AuntLydiasNewHairdo · 17/08/2021 12:11

Is there any news OP?

Bearyhumcrack · 17/08/2021 21:22

No! Nothing yet. I'm not expecting anything til September tbh which is a real pain. Complaint taking a bit longer than planned but rep is giving it some real attention to detail.

The only development is that it appears he has lied to the chief information officers department in their investigation of why my SAR wasn't complete so I wrote to them today and that will go in the complaint too.

OP posts:
StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 18/08/2021 06:05

I really hope he gets his arse kicked.

ripplestitchblank · 18/08/2021 14:49

What a giant arsehole. Hope you're holding up ok OP. You've got this.

nwatty · 26/08/2021 14:41

Just checking in with you. Hope everything is OK

Bearyhumcrack · 26/08/2021 18:39

Hi @nwatty I was thinking about an update today!! No news which is expected. Sleep is deteriorating though. I'm giving up drinking on Monday til at least Christmas so that will help.

I had a Dr's call yesterday but it wasn't my usual GP so I just got a repeat prescription for anxiety meds and will ask for a bit more help in 4 weeks time.

Still working on the complaint. Boss is now self isolating and he's so fucking sanctimonious about Covid it's almost ironic. I do hope he's not unwell though.

Thank you for checking in!!

OP posts:
laalaaland · 26/08/2021 21:09

Thanks for the update OP. Am sure there are lots of other lurkers like me who have RTFT and can't believe this is happening to you.
Really hope you can get some decent sleep soon.

Still1nLove · 26/08/2021 21:19

Has your complaint gone in?

Bearyhumcrack · 26/08/2021 21:38

@Still1nLove not yet. I'm waiting for a report about GDPR before I submit it because I know he's lied to the chief information officer.

I decided that slowly slowly is likely to yield better results than firing it off in anger!

OP posts:
Bearyhumcrack · 03/09/2021 17:30

No update except boss is refusing to provide an update. Union rep has reinforced with bigger union rep so they will ask some questions on Monday.

They have suggested that this is "abuse of process". I have googled this but not overly clear on what it means. Grateful if anyone could provide a definition.

4 months on...
