Just in case anyone needs to hear this, stick your fingers up a dogs arsehole

Chat reaches more people than the doghouse.

Unfortunately a small pug was killed by a larger dog in Wolverhampton today Sad (loads of people tried really hard to intervene) It's also happened a couple of times near me (in Greenwich park and Crystal Palace park)

This happens occasionally and if you see it happening stick your fingers firmly up the anus of the dog being aggressive - they will very likely let go.

It's not fun, it is revolting. But it may save a dogs life if more people know about it.

How many fingers?

These instructions are unclear OP.

I'm a police dog handler.

What you suggest works but is obviously not advised.

The lifting of the hind legs also works wonders. We have training in it but it's not often needed as dog on dog attacks aren't a police matter so we are trained in the use of harness and looped leads, as well as sedation guns which obviously the public won't have.

General advice I can give is the hind leg lifting, but again you need to weigh up the risks yourself. Even the most passive dog will attack it's owner when it feels under threat.

@QueenOfTheDoubleWide

A lovely little dog was killed near us today too. Small dog on a lead killed by a larger dog and the couple with that dog just walked away leaving the other owner hysterical. A witness followed them and gave their address to the police but, apparently, it is not a crime unless a person is injured so they cannot do anything
Surely that's not right.
JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/04/2021 09:28

@AlmostSummer21 I know, it seems ridiculous, doesn't it? But under the Dangerous Dogs Act, it's not automatically an offence for a dog to kill another Confused It only becomes an offence if the dog in question was not under control, and if a person believes they would have been injured if they had tried to break up the fight.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 25/04/2021 09:29

Just read it again and obviously it IS incorrect to say that it's not a crime unless a person is injured!

As if I'm going to stick my fingers up a dog arsehole, for any reason. Even if it worked.

TiddyTid · 25/04/2021 10:00

A large black lab attacked my dog. Mine was on a lead. I hit the lab on the head with the ball thrower whilst swearing profusely. It worked. However, maybe I should have shoved said ball thrower up its arse.

If you can manage to get close enough to stick your fingers up an aggressive dogs bum, then you're close enough to hold its collar or the owner to grab it and gain control. Dog fights are so fast!

When a boxer dog atacked my golden retriever I just whipped it with my lead until it let go.
