Just in case anyone needs to hear this, stick your fingers up a dogs arsehole

Chat reaches more people than the doghouse.

Unfortunately a small pug was killed by a larger dog in Wolverhampton today Sad (loads of people tried really hard to intervene) It's also happened a couple of times near me (in Greenwich park and Crystal Palace park)

This happens occasionally and if you see it happening stick your fingers firmly up the anus of the dog being aggressive - they will very likely let go.

It's not fun, it is revolting. But it may save a dogs life if more people know about it.

@Coconutty

I've heard this before but I'm too scared that I'd do it and everyone else would run away in horror, and I'd be the loony with my finger up a dogs arse in the park.
Nah, they'd stay and film it- you'd go viral on YouTube.
QueenOfTheDoubleWide · 22/04/2021 20:54

A lovely little dog was killed near us today too. Small dog on a lead killed by a larger dog and the couple with that dog just walked away leaving the other owner hysterical. A witness followed them and gave their address to the police but, apparently, it is not a crime unless a person is injured so they cannot do anything

SirDidymus · 22/04/2021 21:01

Finger up the bun sounds like good advice. Assuming you're not keen on keeping your face, that is.

Or are wanting a brown finger.

VienneseWhirligig · 22/04/2021 23:55

@SirDidymus or your name is Keith Lard...

CharityDingle · 23/04/2021 00:12

Do it, OP and come back with your updates. Hmm

VettiyaIruken · 23/04/2021 00:28

What if the dog likes it and goes round starting fights on every walk, bum in the air?

QuestionableMouse · 23/04/2021 00:40

This is utterly ridiculous advice. I've been unlucky enough to be in the middle of a dog fight and trying something fucking stupid as this would most likely end up with the person trying being badly bitten. It's highly irresponsible to be spreading such terrible advice.

Throwntothewolves · 23/04/2021 00:40

I managed to stop one dog fight. My dog barked at another dog and it went for her. It was absolutely terrifying, I was sure she was going to die, especially when the other dog had her by the throat and was rag dolling her around. I tried all sorts to stop it, then in a moment of clarity I realised I needed to get her away, not the other dog, so I grabbed her and threw her to the side. They stopped fighting instantly and that was that.

The useless male owner just stood there impassively, which made me think this wasn't the first time it had happened, while pregnant me risked getting attacked.
Meanwhile my other dog just wandered off for a sniff in the bushes, so much for pack solidarity!

However I would never suggest trying the finger in the bum thing unless you really really love your dog more than you need fingers, and you trust your aim!

Hm2020 · 23/04/2021 02:43

Huh? the I’ve been ready this it’s awful but the pug is very much alive albeit injured. Can’t find anything saying the pus is now dead. Also the other dog was not on a lead said the owner of the pug.

grapefruitish · 23/04/2021 04:02

Do you need lube?

PhilCornwall1 · 23/04/2021 05:21

Could you imagine Barbara Woodhouse telling you to do this?

"No, no!! Stick your fingers up it's arse dear!!".

(Sorry if you don't know who she is, showing my age!!).

Chunkymenrock · 23/04/2021 05:27

Absolutely ridiculous OP. Throwing water, throwing a big coat over it or bag at it far more effective and safe.

Aposterhasnoname · 23/04/2021 07:00

@DShrute

I think it works on people fighting in pubs too
Best post I’ve seen on mumsnet for ages
Chocolatehabit · 23/04/2021 07:10

No chance. Way to get seriously bitten.

If fingers don't, Pool balls do!!

I can't imagine anything that would possess me to put my fingers up a dog's arse. Maybe if the dog was attacking my dc? But then I'd prefer to kick the dog, I think.

Chatanooga1 · 23/04/2021 14:12

Gucci the Pug is alive and on the mend.

There are pictures of him looking worse for where but he’s definitely alive.

Chatanooga1 · 23/04/2021 14:12

Wear ^

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 23/04/2021 14:16

The video that someone took of the attack shows people hitting the dog with all sorts, and it still doesn't let go.

I think people generally need a better plan than hit it with something/give it a kick. I'm not sure anal penetration is the solution however.

SirenSays · 23/04/2021 14:27

My dog didn't even seem to notice when the vet did this. The only time I've heard this "advice" was from teenage boys.
The advice back in the day was to cover the dogs eyes with a jacket or something. And grab another person or a chair and make yourself physically bigger and practice your loud forceful intimidation voice. Might not be perfect, but it seems significantly better than bending down in a dog fight and getting your face chewed off.

Also as pp said I've heard spraying with water can help.

Dangleclack · 23/04/2021 14:27

This myth comes from an episode of Still Game where Winston is mauled by a devil dug 2 mins in.

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 23/04/2021 14:37

Finger-up-arse has been around a lot longer than Still Game, I remember hearing it was the best way to stop a dog attacking at least 30 years ago. I’ve never been tempted to try it though.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 23/04/2021 16:16

It's actually incredibly dangerous advice.

You're at very, very real risk of getting bitten if you do this.

FOJN · 23/04/2021 17:37

Put a lead around it’s neck and tighten it to choke the dog (ideally til unconscious) and then you have control to remove it somewhere safe.

I've been given similar advice. Grab hold of the collar, twist to tighten it whilst lifting the dogs front paws off the ground, it will occlude the carotid artery causing the dog to lose consciousness quite quickly.
