Just in case anyone needs to hear this, stick your fingers up a dogs arsehole

Chat reaches more people than the doghouse.

Unfortunately a small pug was killed by a larger dog in Wolverhampton today Sad (loads of people tried really hard to intervene) It's also happened a couple of times near me (in Greenwich park and Crystal Palace park)

This happens occasionally and if you see it happening stick your fingers firmly up the anus of the dog being aggressive - they will very likely let go.

It's not fun, it is revolting. But it may save a dogs life if more people know about it.

@LaurieFairyCake

I have a Pug (a rescue), a very sweet and friendly dog and the lady from the rescue told me about it. She had about 60 years of rescue experience - she's an incredible behaviourist.
No she isn't. She's an idiot. That advice will probably get you attacked.
BagORats · 22/04/2021 15:17

I think if my dog was being attacked I might just resort to kicking the shit out of the other one till it lets go. Pulling its tail? I'd rather be bitten than my small dog be killed

YolandiFuckinVisser · 22/04/2021 15:20

I can confirm DH once tried this on our dog when he was in a fight. It didn't work, the dog didn't even notice. A passer by poured a can of coke on the dogs faces which surprised them both enough to stop fighting long enough for them to be caught and contained.

corlan · 22/04/2021 15:23

This thread has me in stitches and I don't even have a dog 😅

AnniesAmazingEyebrows · 22/04/2021 15:33

I thought this was a myth and not actually true. I saw it on one of this jokey pissed up college party type films, road trip type things and have never actually heard anyone advise it as a real thing before.

I asked a dog behaviourist if it was a real thing once and they said they've never heard anything so ridiculous so I just assumed it was bullshit.

AlwaysLatte · 22/04/2021 16:08

Gosh I definitely prefer the wheelbarrow method to the arsehole method!

NellyTimes · 22/04/2021 16:17
LizBennet · 22/04/2021 16:21

With the wheelbarrow tip, I assume you don’t let go of the dog so you’re forced to find the nearest primary school, enter sports day, wait for the wheelbarrow race then win it. Give the medal to the dog which will cheer him up and he’ll forget the fight and calm down.

Oh God I laughed 😬😂

l2b2 · 22/04/2021 16:29

@DShrute
😂😂
Thank you for that !

Palavah · 22/04/2021 16:33

@LaurieFairyCake

Yes, it makes the dog release its jaws (element of surprise)

The dog today had its jaw clamped around the smaller one

How curious. I doubt an unexpected digit up MY arse wouldn't make me unclench anything.
Palavah · 22/04/2021 16:33

doubt it would* make me

ArcherDog · 22/04/2021 16:35

Put a lead around it’s neck and tighten it to choke the dog (ideally til unconscious) and then you have control to remove it somewhere safe.
You can you a stick to twist the lead like a tourniquet.

This is what I was taught in my dangerous dog training. Any other method will leave the dog free to attack again.

The dog didn't even notice 😂😂😂 I don't know why but that has really made me laugh
SilkySuky · 22/04/2021 16:40

@DShrute that made me lol

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 22/04/2021 16:41

That advice has been around a long time.

I think most people who's dog was being attacked would try and get inbetween some how . Everyone I know who has done has been bitten . I don't actually know anyone who's tried the finger up arse method though

Sick · 22/04/2021 16:48

What absolutely terrible advice! Shocking that you'd share it without double checking it.

bottyg · 22/04/2021 16:49

A dog attacked my uncles dog, he booted it across the park. That seemed effective!

Justathought21 · 22/04/2021 16:49

There are a few differences to the OP story to what the papers are reporting.

The pug didn't die, the owner has said it's very badly injured but alive.

The pug was on a lead but the other dog that attacked wasn't on a lead, its owner was busy talking on her mobile.

Bluebird2021 · 22/04/2021 16:51

I remember our pup went to the vets and let out a little squeal of surprise when the thermometer went in

Only thing that’s ever really bothered him

Poor little pug. Horrible to witness too

Soubriquet · 22/04/2021 16:54

I’ve seen a dog fight

A Labrador had a Yorkshire terrier by it’s throat and was shaking it like a rag doll. No way would you have gotten close enough to stick your finger into its arse.

The owner ended up laying under the lab and wrestled the poor yorkie off it.

The yorkie survived luckily.

VanillaSpiceCandle · 22/04/2021 16:57

You’d have to bend down to poke your finger up its bottom placing your face and neck next to an out of control, aggressive animal. Worst advice I’ve ever seen.

Whatapalavaa · 22/04/2021 17:05

@BagORats same. I would kick and thrash the living shit out of it. My (dog)motherly instincts would kick in! Have been known to automatically snatch mine up from the floor quickly when I've judged an approaching dog's behaviour as suspicious.

idontlikealdi · 22/04/2021 17:10

What a ridiculous piece of 'advice'. Your amazing behaviourst of over 60 years is very far from that.

MrBond · 22/04/2021 17:24

If the aggressor dog is an intact male, would kicking it in the balls work?

Whatflavourjellybabyisnice · 22/04/2021 17:29

Is it humane though? Wouldn't that go into sexual abuse of an animal let alone the diseases you could get.
I agree with what the majority of other people are saying, OP and saying that you would put yourself in danger.
