'One project a day' thread

BlueLobelia · 18/04/2021 12:51

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

One chair undercoated tonight!

ShortSilence · 20/04/2021 18:53

Thanks WrapUp. I these are perennials ... I’d better do some lurking on the gardening threads rather than derail this one 👀

Still not cleared my wardrobe shelf so I’ll make that tomorrow’s project.

Octodog · 20/04/2021 18:55

Project was to soak cutlery - done.

Tomorrow, I am not sure, will decide in the morning

Cushionsnotpillows · 20/04/2021 19:11

Tiny Win - there has been an air freshener set of 2 lurking on a shelf in the hall for ages waiting for a home so one now in my car and one in downstairs loo.

Also did a load of glass recycling - we don't drink so no bottles, it's all jam jars, sauce jars, coffee jars etc and does take quite a while to collect a decent pile. But very satisfying to get rid of it all today and have a clear bit in the utility room which DH will have filled with junk by the weekend

wheresmymojo · 20/04/2021 19:19

My migraine cleared up!

So completed my project after all of vacuuming and then cleaning the landing and bedroom carpet with our Vax.

wheresmymojo · 20/04/2021 19:21

Tomorrow's project will now be spot treating the remaining stain on the bedroom carpet to see if I can get it to lift any more.

Also fitting 4 x hooks to the inside of my wardrobe doors which will be used for:

  • Hanging up the next day's outfit the previous evening
  • To hang stuff that is not clean but not yet ready for the wash I.e. the stuff that makes up our dreaded floordrobe!
Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 20/04/2021 19:33

Great idea for a thread, I am feeling overwhelmed with too much to do, so I love this idea.

Today I replanted my strawberry plants from the small hanging basket they have lived in for 3 years into a trough. They've got plenty of room now and should pick up nicely.

Tomorrow- turning a bottom kitchen cupboard by the back door into a boot/ shoe cupboard, to get rid of the line of boots that are in the way by the door.

17bluebirds · 20/04/2021 19:43

I also ordered some tile stickers for the bathroom.
They are meant to be delivered by 23rd, so that's my project for 24th planned

farfromthenoise · 20/04/2021 19:52

Today’s boring task of cleaning the outside windows is done. Tomorrow is toddler day so project has to be done in nap time, so I’m going to clean the bit of the fence that needs painting.

elizabethdraper · 20/04/2021 20:02

Today, I cleaned out the hot press. Lots of sheets and duvet covers ready to go to the animal rescue centre

elizabethdraper · 20/04/2021 20:02

Tomorrow I am going to the clothes bank

rosegoldwatcher · 20/04/2021 20:05

This morning I used the marvelous foaming silver cleaner to de-tarnish four items. Didn't take much more than an hour.

Then I started to construct a seat cover for my snuggle chair. I did two of the same, a couple of weeks ago, for the big sofa and had been putting off the third because if I cut it wrongly I have no more fabric!

I got to the stage where the bastard zip was in and was two seams away from finishing. Then the thread ran out. Angry

Not even Amazon Prime can get another reel to me until Thursday!

Sparklynewname · 20/04/2021 20:05

Done!

Garden derailing very welcome as far as I am concerned!

So. :) Today i collected and folded my winter scarves and washed the ones that needed washing and folded the others and put them away. Thanks to the pp who suggested it. :)

I potted out my struggling beef tomatoes.

We had butternut squash for dinner and I collected, washed and potted up the seeds.

I also bought online for DS1 a new navy blue duvet set. He has the old double bed from the guest room and has been stoic in the face of florals. He has never complained (He is 12) so I hope he enjoys his new and masculine new bedset. DH has also had a very old turkish rug that came from his grandfather's study (circa early 1900s) rolled up in a corner. I unrolled it, sniffed it and vacuumed it. That is now in DS's room as well and it looks very fine.

Can I hop on? I today finally opened a parcel that arrived Monday last week. My excuse is my best friend/ddog had to be pts on Tuesday and I didn't want to move on from his nose being the last to sniff it - I don't sniff parcels btw!

fairydustandpixies · 20/04/2021 20:15

Tomorrow I shall wash the front door! Trust me, its grim.

Gottashiftit · 20/04/2021 20:38

Today I ordered a replacement freezer drawer.
Tomorrow I will book a carpet cleaning person to come and clean our revolting carpets. I've been putting that off for a long time. I'm not sure what to do with all the furniture. Do they just shove it from one side of the room to the other?

Wildernesstips · 20/04/2021 20:49

Planted half my potatoes but need another sack for the last ones, so that will be my phase 2 for tomorrow. Also darned a hole in my favourite comfy jumper even though DH said I should probably throw it out.

Tyredofallthis1 · 20/04/2021 21:24

I hope it's okay to jump in.

My house is a hoarded, dirty mess and I am completely overwhelmed. I hope that if I'm in here, I can perhaps set some targets and find a way out.

Tomorrow I'm tackling the heap of ironing and miscellaneous textiles that has taken over the dining room. I may not get it all done, but if I make it a target, I'll get more than nothing done.

Thank you for starting this thread.

RunningKatie · 20/04/2021 21:31

Pleased with progress today - I've written out a bit of a plan for the week, trying not to get too far ahead of myself.

mum2jakie · 20/04/2021 22:02

Despite a busy working day, this thread kept me motivated to tackle some cleaning in the kitchen after work. Cleaned out a kitchen cupboard which made room for some stuff from the worktop and left the kitchen looking tidier! Fab

AdoraBell · 20/04/2021 23:14

My project for today was sorting my breakfast. Doesn’t sound like much but DH keeps buying 3 loaves of bread and I’ve been having toast to avoid it going stale.

I’ve had enough of that, and gained over a stone, so I’ve made granola and toasted seeds and sliced almonds. I’ve got enough for the next 2 weeks.

Iceisnice · 21/04/2021 07:23

Yesterday's project of sorting too small baby bottles done -3 decluttered and 8 no1 teats decluttered too.
Today's project will be sorting out paperwork from a small kitchen cupboard and on top of the microwave.

Hi. I've been there and understand.

One little 15 minute job a day will quickly make a difference. The main thing is that once you've done a job or cleared somewhere, keep on top of that little area and don't let it go back to how it was.

Pace yourself, it didn't get like that in just a few weeks, so don't expect it all to be fixed in a few weeks. Each little thing helps x
