'One project a day' thread

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

I didn't do anything myself today.
But a lovely lovely man fixed my washing machine.
And another lovely man came to quote to refit our bathroom and the downstairs toilet.

So my work day was not the most productive.

PowerslidePanda · 05/05/2021 21:34

Started painting the living room today - think it'll be another two evenings to complete it though.

Hope things improve for you soon, OP Flowers

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 05/05/2021 21:52

Glad to see that your project for today is some looking after yourself, OP, sometimes that's the most important job on the list! I missed a day yesterday because I ended up in bed with vaccine side effects. Much better today, so I've emptied the utility and the old kitchen for ripping out. The utility is going to be refitted, and the kitchen will soon be knocked through to make a bigger living room. But step at a time! Tomorrow if I get time I will make a start on the yellow paint for the wardrobe of doom (it will need two coats), but if not, I'll order the tiles for the new bathroom.

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 05/05/2021 21:53

*one step at a time!

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 05/05/2021 21:55

I did realise today that fully half of my house is in progress (as in, a tip) all at the same time, and I'm not really sure how I got myself into this mess...but there you go!

frugalkitty · 05/05/2021 22:05

Oh BlueLobelia I felt all funny when I read about your foot, you poor thing! Hope it heals quickly and stops hurting soon.

I went to the charity shop only to realise there's a bag left lurking in the hallway, grr.
Car insurance I will sort tomorrow I got distracted by greys anatomy something important this afternoon Blush

TenCornMaidens · 05/05/2021 22:50

I managed to order myself lots of shoes. This is definitely a mini-project rather than fun for me, as I have orthotic inserts for weird feet and very specific taste in shoes. Not a happy combo. I've been wearing the same trainers all day every day for over a year so decided to just get on and look for some. Many pairs ordered now.

2020nymph · 06/05/2021 00:44

Total fail on the project front between work and a clingy toddler that keeps waking up. Managed to get some more laundry done, just hung up the last load and bought a mini pack of wet wipes which are now in DS's school bag after he scooted in dog poop on the way to school last month. I had to bring up wipes at pick up and clean it. He also spilt his smoothie down his front at lunch last week so at least he has something to clean up with now.

2020nymph · 06/05/2021 00:46

I also sponsored someone which I've been meaning to do for ages.

DownUdderer · 06/05/2021 10:21

I completely reorganized a bookshelf, dusted and cleaned and some books chosen for donation. There is another one that needs looking at tomorrow.

BlueLobelia · 06/05/2021 11:27

Yesterday I had my vaccine but ended up queueing outside for an hour so was frozen and had to work the time back later.
Today I need to vote and do a food shop. Also need to ensure the dc do all their homework, I thought they did it yesterday whilst I was working but there was a miscommunication Hmm

frugalkitty · 06/05/2021 12:13

My job did today is catching the rabbit who escaped as DD was putting them into their run this morning five minutes before she had to leave for school. I've given up and let the other one out of the run so they can charge around the garden together. DD can catch the pair of them when she gets in later. There, I've delegated. Job done Grin

I'm giving the kitchen a good clean so that will be my project for today.

LlamaGiles · 06/05/2021 15:19

I cleaned my dressing table this morning including washing all my make up brushes and chucking some of the more ancient stuff. Realy tedious job so happy to have it ticked off!

Catname · 06/05/2021 15:53

Today I've worked through another box of FIL's belongings - we will never need to buy another envelope in our lives 😊

There are suitcases, boxes and bags of his clothes that need to be gone through with him to decide what he should keep but, with only 30 mins visiting time, I can see they are going to be hanging about for quite a while and that really frustrates me. I think the best I can hope for is to drop off the memento paperwork boxes to let him sort through them on his own. There are change of address cards from 1986 onwards plus notes and shopping lists written by his late wife that it feels intrusive to look through or bin.

Devlesko · 06/05/2021 16:03

What a brilliant thread, I usually join these and don't continue, but I'm going to try.
Have an ill husband and not working atm, setting up business.
The motivation for home as gone because between caring for dh and trying to work I lose it and just about function in the end.

Today, shopping order put away, cleaned kitchen floor and outside of cupboards. Hope to do inside tomorrow.

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 06/05/2021 17:05

@frugalkitty I love that you completed the task of catching the rabbit by releasing another rabbit! Grin

Fnib · 06/05/2021 17:32

Glad your foot is ok now OP!
I cleared and wiped top of chest of drawers today. I chucked some odd earrings out that I've hung onto for no good reason, and paired up some others. And I dusted my dining room in 3 minutes flat with my feather duster. Not spotless, but better.

Devlesko · 06/05/2021 19:51

@TheHoneyBadger

Managed to mark the set of essays I've been avoiding all bank holiday weekend today and sorted out some bills and banking.

Tomorrow is a pretty full day at work so probably won't achieve anything at home - will be dragging home another set of assessments to mark.

Most teachers seem to blitz everything at half term or holidays which I always mean to do but fail Blush I get the school work done I have to and get on top of laundry and very basic things like that but I love a bit of sitting around doing nothing I'm afraid.

That sounds pretty full on, you deserve some sitting doing nothing. I have a dd in Y13, I know how hard you all work and the challenges you face Thanks
cheeseychovolate · 06/05/2021 19:55

Today I've done a full house clean, really had to motivate myself, happy with the results. Tomorrow I'll change all the beds, and if it's not too cold I'll clean my car

Chunkymonkey123 · 06/05/2021 20:52

Today I cleaned the bathroom and also cleaned the front door and the front window frame, it’s been annoying me for ages!

Sparklynewname · 06/05/2021 21:17

DH put the door stops on and the handles on the door this evening.
You are all making good progress too 💐

PowerslidePanda · 06/05/2021 21:50

Finished the first coat of the living room paint today - hoping it'll just need touching up rather than a full second coat. New grout pen also arrived, so tomorrow's jobs are finishing the living room paint and the en-suite grouting.

2020nymph · 06/05/2021 22:18

Another couple of bags cleared and measured the gap between DS1's wardrobe and wall. He has lots of cuddly toys everywhere so I'm looking for something to house them. He has pinched one of my laundry baskets but it is overflowing.

DownUdderer · 07/05/2021 02:33

I've cleared and cleaned a bookcase. It was rammed with lots of paperwork/artwork and I've got rid of most of it.
