'One project a day' thread

BlueLobelia · 18/04/2021 12:51

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

Hope you got the Christmas decorations put away Cowbells!
Today I have washed all the winter gloves and hats.
I've also found the sewing machine needles so can replace the one I broke last year!
I need to iron the school pe kits, well tshirts at least.

2020nymph · 03/05/2021 18:11

Urgh, I have spent so much of the bank holiday trying to get caught up on the housework including six loads of laundry and it's still not straight. I gave up and repotted some succulents and put away the birthday decorations.

Chunkymonkey123 · 03/05/2021 18:14

Today I had childcare so I filled my new raised bed and did a tip run of rubbish from the garden. It rained on me the whole time so I feel really tired!
Tomorrow I need to sort out the charity bags and decide which are actually good enough for charity and which should go in the fabric bin. I’ve got a load of baby toys and I’m thinking of putting them as a job lot on Facebook as they’ve been in a box in my bedroom since last may!

17bluebirds · 03/05/2021 19:27

Today I painted a strip of wall in the bathroom. It was the last bit of decorating that I had left in that room. So that's a win.
Also mopped the kitchen floor, which I hardly ever do. Sorted out lots of paperwork, and, after reading a different thread, I bought some premium bonds.

frugalkitty · 03/05/2021 19:50

I tackled the ironing pile today, self inflicted as I'd left it two weeks and I normally try and do it a couple of times a week to keep on top of things.

Also, I'm about to do my postal vote and get DS to do his (first time) so I can post them tomorrow morning.

mathanxiety · 03/05/2021 20:07

Cake baked, icing hopefully getting close to spreadable consistency in the fridge. If not, I don't know what I'll do. Maybe buy a tub of mascarpone.

Laundry in. It will be completely done in an hour and a half.

Recycling brought down to the bin, two charity shop bags placed in the boot for donation tomorrow.

PowerslidePanda · 03/05/2021 20:49

Started on the grouting in the en-suite but both grouting pens (white for the tiles, grey for the floor) ran out so couldn't finish it today. I also unpacked 3 boxes though.

Not sure what tomorrow's job is going to be! There's no shortage of them, but working days are a bit trickier.

mum2jakie · 03/05/2021 21:28

Not much motivation today with it being a wet bank holiday Monday! Have wiped down living room doors and light switches. Tried to mop bathroom floor but broke the steam cleaner instead so will have to revert to a traditional mop later in the week!

Plan for tomorrow:
Gas/electric readings
Make note of mileage to submit to Direct Line
Application for latest WFH tax allowance

Not sure if I'll have much opportunity for any household project as have a busy day at work.

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 03/05/2021 21:34

I didn't check in yesterday, but I did order the new bathroom, paint and sink, flooring and worktop for the utility room. Not much get up and go today, but I did manage to caulk the remaining stubborn holes in the wardrobe of doom and paint two spice racks ready for hanging in the kitchen. Tomorrow's jobs - clear the utility and the old kitchen ready for ripping out.

Givemecoffeeplease · 03/05/2021 22:14

Sorted through playroom and my drawers to collect a pile for the charity shop. Got a bag to get rid of. Tomorrow is the day to make a couple of listings on eBay.

LemmysAceCard · 03/05/2021 22:18

My project for tomorrow is to change the bedding and Hoover upstairs. I can only have small projects as I have a back injury so standing up is agony but the house is a mess. One small thing a day. I can do it.

grumpypug · 03/05/2021 22:38

Sounds like everyone is making good progress Smile

I managed to remove all DS beaver badges from his beaver jumper, ready to donate tomorrow, I put a badge onto his cub jumper that I wasn't sure about last week and fixed my bra! I also sorted out about 1/2 the old dressing up outfits to donate.

Tomorrow will be a small job as I'm working a long day. I'm going to sort the remaining dress up outfits and throw away any broken accessories.

2020nymph · 03/05/2021 23:36

Does anyone else have areas that just attract clutter? Bottom of the stairs cleared. Again.

Fnib · 04/05/2021 06:17

Yes @2020nymph! Dining room is ours!
I cleared out my bedside drawer yesterday. And I also found two bits of clothing I never wear and added them to the charity shop bag.

LeonoraFlorence · 04/05/2021 07:45

Bottom of our stairs is the same! I feel so satisfied when it’s cleared but then 2 days later it’s cluttered again! It’s so frustrating.
My house is generally tidy and very organised but our only spare bedroom is a dumping ground too. Again, I spend ages sorting it only for it to end up full of stuff a few days later. It’s me who puts the things in there so can’t even blame DH or DDs. I never learn. So that’s on my list again today. Clear the spare room (mostly ironing piles and bags of things from recent shopping trip/online orders to be put away).

DownUdderer · 04/05/2021 11:36

my hallway attracts clutter.

AdoraBell · 04/05/2021 11:56

Today’s project is student finance. DD has applied, I just need to complete my part, which means finding reference numbers etc.

Equimum · 04/05/2021 12:03

I had delivered plants to the people I promised them to, and have taken my returns back to Next.

I am now going to start wire brushing the rough paint on my kitchen ceiling, in preparation for repainting another day.

Fnib · 04/05/2021 12:47

I'm looking at a family photo frame that really ought to be updated (it contains ex-partners) Think that might be my 'thing' for the day today.

BlueLobelia · 04/05/2021 13:54

Today I cleaned my car. First time since I bought it 3 years ago. Blush

I also booked my second covid jab. :)

I also started looking into age-appropriate online and gaming safety info on youtube for the DCs. CBBC Newsround seems to have a good series.

I am loving the variety of all the projects and becoming very inspired by many too!

@LemmysAceCard I hope your back gets better soon. Thanks

I've cleaned the inside of my car and put it back together after doing the tip run at the weekend. Bags for the charity shop are in the boot ready to drop off.

I have also done the shredding and sorted through a pile of paperwork that's been looking at me for a while.

Cowbells · 04/05/2021 15:47

Today's project: make banana bread for DC. I am away form home for work for a few days - overlapping with when he comes home to take uni exams in peace, so I will miss him. I want to leave him a loaf of his favourite banana bread to keep him going.

mamakoukla · 04/05/2021 16:09

Clutter magnet area in our home - dining room table, desk and kitchen counter. Yes, I contribute to that Blush It’s a rainy day here and feeling a bit low on inspiration and am studiously avoiding any and all to do items. I think I am going to sort out laundry ready to go on Thursday when the weather is meant to be good, light a candle or put an oil burner on, start prep for dinner early as it can sit the, clean the bathrooms and maybe some gentle music.

drspouse · 04/05/2021 16:42

I'm supposed to be getting some summer clothes down from the attic but frankly looking at the weather...
