'One project a day' thread

BlueLobelia · 18/04/2021 12:51

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

Two parcels posted and one bag of children’s clothes donated to nursery. Not a massive amount but it’s Friday night so I’m done!

RunningKatie · 30/04/2021 19:19

Collected a parcel with dd. She's delighted.
Kitchen planner came round and I have another brochure! I still need a structural engineer, I left dh to sort it and he is too laid back for a task that the entire project rests on Hmm
Over the weekend I am going to clear down my emails and install a colour change lighbulb!

mamakoukla · 30/04/2021 19:56

Today I took some pictures that I needed to email for DC. Small job that I’d been procrastinating on.... off the list! Yay!

Divineswirls · 30/04/2021 20:03

I scrubbed around some light switches and door handles which had discoloured so the area looks fresh and new and I wont need to re paint the doors after all, yay.

I'll be scrubbing full walls next so hopefully wont have to repaint them either.

picturesandpickles · 30/04/2021 20:08

Glad I found this thread, think it is a good one!

Today I cleared some old toys out of the shed and took to the charity shop.

You need a magic sponge for this job! Grin

I threw away some old holey knickers today, and bought a pack of lovely comfy new ones.
I think that counts as self care 😊

PowerslidePanda · 30/04/2021 22:15

Ooh, this is the thread for me - just moved house and there's loads of little (and bigger) things that need doing.

Today I used a grout pen to freshen up the tiling in the bathroom and replaced a lampshade. Tomorrow I'm hoping to make a start on painting the landing.

Catname · 30/04/2021 22:22

Didn't do anything yesterday but today I have planted 3 plants and spent 2 hours digging out bramble shoots.

DinosApple · 30/04/2021 22:48

I did a bit in the conservatory, and a load of washing today. And identified where the kitchen sink is leaking Hmm- not fixed yet though.

Tomorrow is looking busy out of home though so I don't know how much will happen. I've got a long list of things I need DH to screw to various walls but that might be Monday instead.

Divineswirls · 01/05/2021 00:57

@BeautifulandWilfulandDead that's pretty much what I used. It was a spontex bathroom sponge scourer.
If that hadn't worked I had my smiley face Scrub Mommy on stand by. I recently invested in lots of cleaning items as I had an embarrassingly paltry collection. I even cleaned the oven door with DD who wanted to try the Scrub Mommy Confused strange but true. Took us at least a couple of hours of elbow grease but it's as good as new. I think using dishwasher powder helped the most but we used all sorts of products.

Tomorrow I'm going to the pub so that's my thing of the day.

Can’t remember what I did on Wednesday but two out of three of Tuesday’s Olio listings were out of the door in ninety minutes! Thursday I wiped down the back of the front door and put up some more Command hooks (my toddler keeps pulling them off Hmm but he’s calmed down a bit so it might be safe to replace them...). Plenty more space now for hanging coats and school bags.

Fnib · 01/05/2021 07:26

Morning all. I really like this thread. It's a nice one to open first thing.
Today I was up bright and early, and did 5 mins stretching. I always feel better when I do the exercises.
I'm sitting with a coffee and looking at all the coats on the hooks in the tiny hall way. There are only 2 of us! So I'm going to do something about that this afternoon.

Fnib · 01/05/2021 07:35

I've notice DH getting on board, even though I haven't mentioned the thread. I've become more consistent with decluttering and routines, so all jobs are easier. He sorted out his underwear drawer the other day, and decluttered a drawer that he brought with him when we moved in together, that I would never have touched. Found some lovely photos that he'd forgotten and that I've never seen Smile

farfromthenoise · 01/05/2021 08:25

Yesterday I used the container concept to go through the toddler toys. If the container is full I need to get rid of stuff not buy more boxes! Then the stuff that needs to go to be recycled, chucked or donated goes there straight away. More of the same today with one more box to go. The aim being that all the toys fit in the existing boxes.

Cowbells · 01/05/2021 08:38

Brilliant thread. On my way out but will come back. I love this sort of thing.

DownUdderer · 01/05/2021 08:40

I bought my velvet and I've cut it to length. Tomorrow I'll sew it.

BlueLobelia · 01/05/2021 08:53

I am sorting through my charity shop bag and plan to charity shop today.

I sat last night and cleared from 133 unread emails to 65.
Today I am aiming to half it again!

Sparklynewname · 01/05/2021 12:15

Today I need to empty and clean the futility room ready for painting.
I have a standard wall cupboard in there which I think we are going to take down while we paint so it will need to be emptied too. There is a lot of stuff in there.
DH is still in bed. Story of our weekends!
I have also had a notification from Amazon that bathroom ceiling lights will be delivered soon- when I went to bed last night, the decision was that the light in the loo is fine so I am wondering where it’s for 😂

drspouse · 01/05/2021 13:05

DH has noticed my cupboard cleaning efforts and has asked me to do another one Confused

TheHoneyBadger · 01/05/2021 15:17

I have a pile of jigsaw puzzles outside on a chair which a lady is coming to pick up. Finally got something up on the local giving page. It's a start!

I also paid bills and checked some financial stuff today.

I just made the awful mistake of looking in ds's bedroom. He needs to badgered into sorting it out this weekend because it's a pit.

picturesandpickles · 01/05/2021 15:28

Cleared the overgorwn ivy and organised all the outdoor shoes today.

Sparklynewname · 01/05/2021 15:35

So far today I have: emptied, tidied, cleaned and put back all the stuff from the downstairs toilet cabinet
Emptied, tidied and cleaned all the items from the cupboard in the futility room
Looked up how to get the cupboard off the wall (need to get the clips off!)
Cleaned most of the futility room.
Just having a coffee and then back to it!

Lamentations · 01/05/2021 15:37

I've just done the ironing that's a couple of months old. I barely iron anything but there are always a couple of bits that need it. I found two tops I'd forgotten I had!
