'One project a day' thread

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

Congratulations @17bluebirds that's fantastic news! 🥂

@BlueLobelia sorry you're feeling low, hope it passes soon. I'm so grateful for you starting this thread, get my house sorted is still overwhelming but I'm getting a little bit done each day.

Today I moved all DS1's on to the new hangers so his T-shirt's won't keep falling off and returned my next order.

Had to work a lot longer than I expected to (about 12 hours total on top of commute), but everyone had dinner and I got the dishwasher loaded.

Yesterday I dig out the roots of a shrub I cut back a couple months ago and spread some bark over the gap. Today I’m going to clean the windows on the side of the house. Self care will be an early night as I didn’t sleep well last night

DownUdderer · 29/04/2021 08:15

Tomorrow I plan to investigate curtain fabric.

TheHoneyBadger · 29/04/2021 08:30

Yesterday work was enough really. Today I have something to pick up in the village from our gifting page and am going to drop off books in our converted phone box that is now a book exchange.

I’m also going to post at least 5 things on the gifting page and fill a bag of clothes for the charity box.

Also going to the gym

Good job I attached a water bottle to my tarpaulin as it blew right off the garden furniture and would have ended up god knows where.
Just had to attach the rope through the holes on the bottom to secure it and added another bottle to hold it down.

Planned job for today is blowing up balloons and making it look lovely for DD Birthday when she gets home from School later.

Divineswirls · 29/04/2021 09:15

@BlueLobelia I hope you're feeling a bit better today. We're all thinking of you.

Iceisnice · 29/04/2021 12:49

Today's job is organising outgrown clothes into textile recycling bags for new council initiative. Also hoping to order a couple of new items if clothing for myself now that I am out of maternity wear (hate maternity clothes!)
Hope you are feeling a bit better today @BlueLobelia, stress has such a big effect on mind and body and I hope the situation is improving with your DC bullying situation.

BlueLobelia · 29/04/2021 13:12

Thanks so much everyone. I am really touched at the messages.

I have picked up a bit today. The school has been very responsive so hopefully things will calm down a bit. DS is so pleased we have a Bank Holiday weekend though so I need to plan some fun things to do.

Today i am going to clean out the fridge and clean the microwave. And plan the weekend. :)

I nearly forgot about this today as I'm having a busy day at work. But I just got out a pot of paint and did the last bits touching up in the kitchen. It still counts! Grin

BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 29/04/2021 15:02

Glad you have had a good day @BlueLobelia!

Fnib · 29/04/2021 15:09

Pleased to hear you feel better OP.
Today I have cleaned one of the windows in my spare room, inside and out.

LlamaGiles · 29/04/2021 15:32

Bits and pieces day for me. Trimmed a couple of garden hedges, bought some wrapping paper and birthday cards for my sister and goddaughter, sorted presents for my goddaughter too.

TheHoneyBadger · 29/04/2021 15:44

I did drop books at the book exchange and pick up what I needed to. Resting my sprained ankle currently and had to cancel gym as a bad idea. Still need to post at least 5 things to give away on Facebook.

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 29/04/2021 16:32

Today I washed out the cool bag that's been in the shed all winter and had a few forgotten carrots (we use it as overflow veg storage) going a bit funky at the bottom. And I washed out the kitchen plastics recycling bin.

1forAll74 · 29/04/2021 16:34

I started off the year by deciding to do just this.but live in a very old terrace cottage., and got quite up to date with little jobs last year, so was just going to bob along nicely with doing whatever needed doing now.

But since Christmas, part of my kitchen ceiling fell down. after a bad water leak from pipes, the ceiling has got discoloured from the water leak, and ruined some flooring. I am now having to redecorate the kitchen again.

I was aiming to re pot some house plants today, but got sidelined,,and noticed some scratched up bits of carpet on the stairs,I have three cats,, so trying to repair the worst bits. so now I am not on top of any jobs again.

TenCornMaidens · 29/04/2021 17:28

My project today was visiting my mother. Tick.

drspouse · 29/04/2021 17:31

I sewed a badge on DD Beaver top but I'm not sure that counts. I'm going to see about sorting some summer/winter clothes later though as DH is taking her to Beavers and DS has got some screen time owing.

Nothing done today. Emergency trip to doctors for DD, which involved 2 one hours drives.
Now I'm shattered and won't be doing anything useful tonight.

wombatspoopcubes · 29/04/2021 20:36

What a great idea! I need to replant/ resoil all my houseplants and can't find tge time. Much less daunting if it's just one.

drspouse · 29/04/2021 20:40

Badge done and one vacuum bag of clothes done. Ironing service booked to sort out wrinkled clothes!

Iceisnice · 29/04/2021 21:01

@17bluebirds hope your DD is ok.
Another job for the day, cleaned 1/2 sofa after DD2 decided that her banana was better off smeared into it than in her tummy.... have a feeling that as quick as I work through my task list more will be added at either the same or a quicker rate thanks to DC!

17bluebirds · 29/04/2021 21:13

Iceisnice , thanks, she will be. Nothing too serious, luckily.

Sparklynewname · 29/04/2021 21:21

I filled up 6 of my bulb plant waterers and placed them in pots today.
Also went out for a birthday lunch with a friend which was lovely ☺️
DH has finished painting the downstairs loo so it will be finishing off tomorrow 😊
