ADs, grab your thermals, long johns and winter woolies, we're finally off to drown our sorrows at the Sleeping Swan!

@Ohnomoreno Completely agree I tend to compare it with the way HIV?AIDS patients were treated.

They were seen as having a moral failing if they caught it through sex but seen as a "good" patient if they caught it through infected blood products.

Equating illness with moral failing has been happening throughout this whole pandemic. And doing this never ends well.

Ohnomoreno · 29/04/2021 17:58

Yeah, it's weird. All that "blood on your hands" stuff was super weird. In that case as I say we all have blood on our hands, because I suspect we've all used public transport with a cold, and there'll always be a vulnerable person, or possibly even someone who doesn't know they're vulnerable. I think maybe unvaccinated people should be made to wear a bell around their necks to warn others. Just waiting for someone to suggest this is a great idea...they'll no doubt be along soon.

Does that include masks?

I read in The Sun (sorry I succumbed to click bait) that everyone entering the U.K. after a foreign holiday, including to green list countries, will have to show proof of a negative test regardless of vaccination status. As many of those still promoting mask wearing because vaccination doesn’t stop you spreading covid (!!!) this makes absolute sense. I’m hoping some enterprising companies set up in-airport testing to make it all easier.

SloeSummer · 29/04/2021 18:19

Additional thought

As well as adding "mea cuppa" to the AD lexicon, we could use "the PANTHAIR" to describe nasty folk.

Meanwhile the residents near Walleys Quarry have to put up with this till 2026

That's relatively near to me Mercy Can't imagine how stressful it must be to have something like that affecting you at home and not be able to get away. Haven't experienced it myself (am far enough away in local terms if that makes sense!) But know people who have and apparently it's horrendous.

BogRollBOGOF · 29/04/2021 21:13

That must be awful to endure.
I had a sensitive gag reaction when pregnant, and had to drive past a dump during a heatwave. I used to end up winding up the windows, shutting down the air flow, taking a deep breath and drivinh past as fast as possible on one breath or the smell would make me violently dry retch.
The thought of breathing something like that in consrantly... Envy

That's horrendous

I am sooo bored. I'd go for a walk but it's too cold. I wouldn't normally walk now, but I am bored and restless and fidgety.

justasking111 · 29/04/2021 22:38

Well I did try to support the hospitality trade today. We went down to the marina, there is a big pub there lots of outside seating. We had to write down our names contact number for track and trace were shown to a table. Took twenty minutes for our drinks to arrive they are so short staffed. The menu was very limited, burgers, fish and chips, sandwiches, I know they are trying to hire chefs too.

It was so bloody freezing, bearing in mind I was wearing socks, boots, trousers, teeshirt, thick winter jumper with a faux fur coat thrown over the top, we shivered our way through a drink OH left some of his pint and fled back to the car and a heater. Unless we have the weather I shall not be dining outside would rather sit in the conservatory with a drink.

MercyBooth · 29/04/2021 23:11

@BogRollBOGOF Exactly. If DH was living there he would end up in hospital.

BogRollBOGOF · 29/04/2021 23:12

We struggled with slow service on Sunday too at our local. The menu was just snacks so we ordered a couple of bowls of chips and the drinks. The chips came and we were told the drinks were on their way... after 40 mins we had to hunt the staff down. By then the sun was going down and we had to drink up before we got really cold.
The staff were friendly and the atmosphere good, but they seem to be struggling to process what cimes in through the app. I want them to do well and we had a good EOTHO there last August.

While it's being co-operatively dry for al alfresco hospirality, it's fricking cold if you're in the shade!

Bog did you have to do your food order via app?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/04/2021 06:34

I've gone and booked a table of my favourite restaurant for the 22nd May....can't wait.

Keep seeing threads "healthcare workers what do you think of a, b and c....", "HCP, what's your opinion about...." why suddenly does no one else's opinion matter? Especially considering they are asking about stuff that's not specifically related to the job. Honestly I don't get it.

Also realised that I'm supposed to be off to visit my family in Greece in a few weeks. I naively thought when we booked that as the taskforce report would be done by 12th April we may at least get plenty of notice and not be panicking at the last minute about whether we can go. Yet here we are just a few weeks to go with no idea whether we can and the world and his dog judging us as selfish murderers for wanting to.

It's like I've travelled back in time.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/04/2021 07:22

Here's a small corner of the world where I don't think that at all. I hope you get to go Flowers

Worldgonecrazy · 30/04/2021 08:17

The hospitality trade is really suffering with recruitment. It’s at all levels from Michelin starred through to tiny cafes.

I hope you get to go to Greece too livin’. I’m hopeful for October but have squished the marriage idea. The holiday pre planning will be stressful enough without adding that into the mix .

WouldBeGood · 30/04/2021 08:38

@LivinLaVidaLoki I am truly a selfish murderer as I’d love to go to Greece and I have no family there 😃

In fact, I’d like to go anywhere.

WouldBeGood · 30/04/2021 08:39

I too have had a hypothermic visit to outdoor hospitality this week and have renewed my reduce not to attempt carousing until things are normal.

WouldBeGood · 30/04/2021 08:40

Resolve, not reduce!

SirSamuelVimes · 30/04/2021 09:23

Fingers crossed for you, Loki!

BogRollBOGOF · 30/04/2021 09:48

I hope you make it to Greece Livin'.
I keep seeing gorgeous pictures from my relative who's abroad, and on the flip side she'll be missing the UK. Plus she needs the income from tourism.

It's only masks on planes that's putting me off flying anywhere. I'd seriously rather be on a plane with snakes... but maybe not snakes and DH as he hates them Grin

Our holidays are always mixed in where we go/ what we do. We've done AI a couple of times and while it's not my usual favourite, the thought of just turning up to a buffet and helping myself and letting the family crack on, and lots of swimming is bliss after a year of catering for family and one swim in a river!

I'm doing better for getting more routine/ structure back into life, but I'm still missing events to anticipate.
At least this week I've woken up with a clearer sense of what day it is!

TabbyStar · 30/04/2021 10:09

We always tended to go HB, I love a hotel buffet, I wonder whether they'll still be doing them though. Not that I'm going anywhere this year probably....

TrustTheGeneGenie · 30/04/2021 11:13

Oh god i could not think of anything better than a hotel breakfast right now (i'm living up to the cliche and i couldnt give a toss!)

i actually think i have said this before but there is NOTHING better.

Get up, hotel breakfast, lay by a pool. THAT is my ideal day.

Ahhhhhhhh holidays.

I've got one booked for next year but with Dp and DS being horrific unvaccinated disease spreaders i thought we probably couldn't got this year.

Ofc i am an angle and fully vaccinated so i spose i could piss off on my own ;)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/04/2021 11:33

Thank you everyone.

I have just read this in the independent

"Could individual islands or regions join the green list?
Yes. Grant Shapps has confirmed that individual islands will be considered for green list status, even if other parts of the same country are regarded as higher risk.

He said of the “islands approach” that was eventually adopted by the UK last summer: “I want to do that again. I don’t want to go backwards, I want to go forwards.”

So I am feeling more hopeful as the Greek approach to vaccination has been to vaccinate the smaller islands where medical resources are smaller, the vulnerable and then simultaneously vaccinate the islands most affected by tourism closures. Where we are going will be mostly vaccinated by the time we get there.

TabbyStar · 30/04/2021 11:34

I'll come with you Gene 😂
