Yup!! I saw that thread too.

The pandemic has provided the perfect opportunity for those whose lives lacked interest and excitement to suddenly feel ‘worthy’

The smug self satisfied virtuosity is laughable.

Zuby nailed it on Twitter:

“ It's not about health for so many people. It's all about power, control, and telling other people what to do.

It's so transparent and tiresome. Little weirdo authoritarians. I'm tired of all this nonsense.”

And

‘ They've enjoyed this past year because it's made them feel important and virtuous.“

SloeSummer · 28/04/2021 11:08

World that Zuby guy sounds right.

I still can't tell if the general sense of lowness and fear is lockdown or a middle age crisis of some kind crashing into it....

thefallthroughtheair · 28/04/2021 11:38

Yes I wanted to join that discussion over there but it's now exactly the same as every single other thread/article/tweet etc etc. Putting aside all the too-big-to-think-about issues, I'm just SO BOREDGrin. Literally the same patronising faux intellectualism is EVERYWHERE. God help me (obvs watching too much line of duty!) I want to scream from the sheer frustration of having to deal with the perennially stupid. Gggggrrrrr!!!
And I've been praying for rain as all my new plants are getting crispy by the end of the day and now it's cloudy I'm all gloomy... Argh I've become a D - No misery is ever enough misery!

thefallthroughtheair · 28/04/2021 11:39

Brilliant: 'little weirdo authoritarians'. I love that.

SloeSummer · 28/04/2021 11:48

thefall I'm a constant misery on MN. I'm not like this IRL!

The sun disappearing has not helped me.

The "mired in glue" feeling I spoke about before comes back so quickly. I did enjoy yesterday but the good feelings wore off by this morning. In normal times, there'd be things to look forward to. Dreading the future is emotionally very hard work.

Curlygirl06 · 28/04/2021 12:09

@SloeSummer

There's a thread over there that was really interesting but now totally invaded by people who think the Right Things.
Which one is that?
BogRollBOGOF · 28/04/2021 13:42

These threads always were an oasis for saying that you felt a bit crap about this that and anything at a point when you were only allowed to care about Covid Sadly Deaths. And we can say kind things to each other and not suck the joy out of peoples' hopes and plans.

I'm still naturally an optomist, but that hope has got more shakey over the past year.
It's better getting busier again, but I'm still lacking pleasurable plans. Races are still being cancelled into early summer because organisers need to know where they stand on measures in place and for many there just isn't the security in advance.
And spontenaity is still an issue.

I've been out for a walk with a friend which has been good. Well timed as this morning's school run was miserable. I've got the 10 min wait. Only two parents there already chatting halfway through their 20 min wait. The couple of ones who are more open with chat weren't there and these two just kept chatting on and ignored me while I've got a 10yo being clingy. On a morning like that I'd love to drop and run, but that doesn't work for DS. Fortunately he is entering better now and at least I managed to bugger off and get him in when the doors opened. I hate days when I feel so peripheral.

BogRollBOGOF · 28/04/2021 13:46

It's the thread about government fear pt 3.
I've scanned bits of them. They're quite interesting but suffer from the usual issue of polarised and entrenched positions, lack of middle ground and some prolific posters wanting to convert the opposition.
At least we're officially a lost cause, a bit like my JW relative accepting after a few decades that the rest of the family are a bunch of eternally damned heathens Grin

thefallthroughtheair · 28/04/2021 14:34

I like being a Lost Cause Bog! And I can't think of a better group of lost causes!
I was chatting the other day with a friend about how entrenched so many people are about everything the last few years. We seem to have ramped up from left/right, brexit/remain, through trans stuff and now reached the apotheosis of entrenchment with Covid. SM has a lot to answer for I think.
I don't get why everyone's so bloody SURE they're right and have to be so bloody aggressive. I've always been very 'green' but I've always known that my views are deemed weird by most. So I just shut up about it when I'm with people I'll offend and only engage when prodded and try to be lighthearted. I've done it all my adult life (and I'm pretty sure I feel more genuinely passionate about the environment than they do about Covid) and I'm still alive despite it! I haven't died of politeness, tact and just letting people be! But I'm really getting to the end of my rope! Angry

MercyBooth · 28/04/2021 14:55

Yes. Im on that thread. Here is a quote from another one.

From the mask thread.

I’d like to see them become the norm in places like public transport. Other countries manage it without the perpetual whining. I also think coughing in public is disgusting and needs to become completely socially unacceptable

DH has COPD He cant help coughing. Ableism in plain sight. And im expected to protect ppl like this.

They dont like ppl invoking Godwins law but a certain group 80 years ago did equate illness and disability with moral failing. And thats whats been happening for over a year. If you have an illness which means you cant help coughing then you are lacking in morality. If you have caught Covid you must have broken the rules and there fore you have no morality.

Equating illness and disability with moral failing has a history and not a nice one.

Worldgonecrazy · 28/04/2021 15:06

Tut tut. Don’t you know you’re not allowed to express any concern that the current policies, restrictions, and encouraged behaviours have similarities with anything bad that happened in the 20th century. Don’t you know Those Terrible Things arose in a vacuum and there was absolutely no social manipulation beforehand, no baby steps to monstrosity, no encouraging fear within a nation in order to turn them into willing mass murderers.

You are absolutely not allowed to invoke Godwin’s Law because it’s anti semetic (even if you’re Jewish).

ISaySteadyOn · 28/04/2021 15:43

@MercyBooth, how does that commenter know there's no complaints about masks in other countries? Does she speak ALL the languages?

Fingers crossed for me all, I have just filled out an in year application so DS can go back to school but a different one than his old one. Forms are, to me, like the traps in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

thefallthroughtheair · 28/04/2021 15:49

Oh dear Worldgonecrazy, you see just saying that proves you to be a conspiracy theorist. Covid is totally and utterly unprecedented and if you had known people who had died (of Covid - it's a very particular and different death from all others) you wouldn't be so heartless in using comparisons which also make you homophobic, racist, fascist, right-wing, gullible, thick...Oh God I've run out of steamGrin. Also I'm an epidemiologist. Therefore I know everything about absolutely everything and you don't. And also my mum's a nurse and has long covid. And my kids have just loved the change of pace. And also we should have shut the borders and kept them shut to everyone and everything - I'm sure the UK is self-sufficient so it wouldn't have been hard. And also anyone who doesn't agree is just very selfish. So pop a mask on - there is incontrovertible evidence that they work - stop whining and just be grateful that perhaps by 2025 no one will ever die (of Covid).
If I just copied that on to every thread over there would I just about cover all viewpoints Grin I'm going mad MAD from the repetitive BOREDOM. But work is really boring today too so I keep coming back to the horror-Covid-poring. Please help me!... Pictures of pretty wildlife?!

thefallthroughtheair · 28/04/2021 15:53

That was meant to say horror Covid porn.
Because it does feel like they're all quite sexually aroused by their own assumed deep knowledge of everything.
I wonder if that's why they weren't all wailing in the past about the half million people in India who die every year from diarrhoeal infections. Cos that's just not so porntastic as ventilators.
And in other news, we're sending over a few ventilators (unnecessarily according to some press in India) but cutting aid for things like clean water. Right. Well that's a long term winner in my book.
Sorry. Must stop spamming the thread!
Anyone got any happy stories???

SloeSummer · 28/04/2021 16:17

Curly that's the one! Could have been interesting but hijacked. I cannot believe that being anti lockdown makes me...I don't know, a lizard person?

ISay I haven't seen the film but I'm guessing forms are your nemesis?

thefall Here's this year's Wildlife Photographer entries if that helps

BogRollBOGOF · 28/04/2021 16:59

India... it came out of both ends. Simultaneously. The Indian trend for a tiled wetroom with tap on the wall was very, very useful.

A week later DH and I shared a hospital bed on drips to rehydrate as it was dragging on rather unpleasantly.

It was the burger in Mumbai airport.
A true bugger of a burger.

Thank you all for beautiful wildlife photos, me a cuppa, and diarrhoea storiesGrin Feeling cheered up! Must now escape before Im tempted back over there again!

ISaySteadyOn · 28/04/2021 17:20

Flowers because I have a horror of this happening to me. I may be sceptical of some jabs but if I were ever offered one that prevented noro or rotaviruses, I might struggle not to shove my way to the front of the queue.

@SloeSummer, yes, forms are my nemesis. I am not good at them at all.

Me too!

I like "me a cuppa". I think this could be AD code for many things.

Ooh I'll have a look, see how hard I can roll my eyes!
SloeSummer · 28/04/2021 22:07

curly careful with the eyes, you might injure them on that thread!

I was talking with mum. So many nosey parkers asking re vax, I told her I'm still not telling her but she can tell her friends I've had it.

I have declined the second one. Hopefully I won't get the GP on the phone.

TheClaws · 29/04/2021 02:17

Gotta say, you lot on the AD thread don't hold back. Sexually aroused? Are you mental? It's fine you have a safe space but it isn't fine to talk about others like that. We don't do it to you.

MercyBooth · 29/04/2021 02:22

You most certainly do And i can prove it.
