I was at Dd's house recently, she opened her freezer and a I could see was lots of little pink mouse tails.
She has a pet snake so they are for him.
I also once sat eating my lunch in Indonesia whilst watching some guys shoving a cow into the back of a bemo (minibus type thing but with no back doors)

Anyone else?

Why was Morris dancing against the law?

SakuraEdenSwan1 · 04/04/2021 04:00

When I was a student nurse a long time ago, was on placement with the District Nurses when we came out of a house to see a woman taking her cat on a lead out for a walk. Not so weird now but back then our eyes did quite a few look backs to make sure we were not seeing things .

Working in A&E I have seen quite a few weird things shoved in places they should not be and met many wonderful weird but charming people, not really seen anything well weird thou tbh!

FakeFruitShoot · 04/04/2021 04:10

Like others we have a local parrot that gets taken for a walk. That was a surprise the first time.

I've also seen a carbuncle on my DH's neck crack open after using magnesium paste and literally probably 200ml of pus come puthering out.

Once I saw the wind pick up a carrier bag and blow it straight into a lady's face. She just very calmly stated "Oh shit."

And last one, a teenager got off the bus I was on, snapped off a bit of dry stone wall and lobbed it at the bus. Someone grabbed him abd stopped him and we all had to wait on the bus until the police arrived.

crashingthunderandlove · 04/04/2021 04:10

@Selkiebride I really want to live where you live!

cateycloggs · 04/04/2021 04:24

@FakeFruitShoot, nice alliteration there, "... the pus came puthering out".
I never heard of puthering so I noticed it and looked it up are you from the East Midlands or Nottinghamshire? It's a very evocative word.

FakeFruitShoot · 04/04/2021 04:38

Oh, I didn't realise it was a local word! Yes, from Notts / Derbyshire.

cateycloggs · 04/04/2021 04:44

It was a bit of a derail because I am also on the word usage thread but I do thing it's a good descriptive word. Would you use it in the sense of : the lava puthered out of the volcano or is that too violent a movement?

Blurpblorp · 04/04/2021 05:52

I once saw grown women dressed as Ana and Elsa in Tesco. No word of a lie; they were in the frozen aisle Grin

A man walking backwards around the streets of my local town.

A dead fox on the pavement outside someone's house in the early morning. It had a cardboard box around it that someone had turned into a sort of doll's house... With windows cut out and little curtains attached Confused

Why was Morris dancing against the law?
I can't remember now, it's going back hundreds of years.
SexyGiraffe · 04/04/2021 06:21

A man with a loose rat on his shoulders on the tube in London.

jannyapple · 04/04/2021 06:59

Tunisia.. a man , woman one child and a sheep on a tiny moped
The woman was holding onto the sheep for dear life
Confused

ByeByeMissAmericanPie · 04/04/2021 07:09

A motorised sofa driving down the road. Complete with standard lamp with a tasselled fringe screwed down next to it.

And in the space of about 10 seconds... a woman driving round a roundabout the wrong way, swiftly followed by an old lady crossing the road whose skirt blew up (it was windy) revealing nothing underneath. One of those Marylin Munroe situations but with an octogenarian.

It was all the more entertaining as I had 17yo DS sitting in the front seat whose jaw was on the floor.

SomethingAboutNothing · 04/04/2021 07:33

Driving south on the A1m early Christmas morning about 12 years ago, pouring rain, roads were empty apart from an Aston Martin on the northbound side, completely lost traction and did a full 360° spin on the road. The driver somehow recovered and ended up driving facing the right way on the road again. God knows how they didn't crash, if there had been another car on the road with them they would have wiped out completely.

dodiebantock · 04/04/2021 07:49

In Delhi a man drove past on a small motorbike. On board were four small children, all hanging on somehow between him and his wife who was breastfeeding a new baby.

The train from Cambridge to London King's Cross goes past a wildlife park just outside Cambridge. It's a very small one but it does have 2 tigers. Their enclosure has some high wooden platforms for them to climb up, then there are trees between the enclosure and the train line. If the tigers are on the platform you can sometimes glimpse them from the train but it looks as though they are in a tree rather than on a platform. It's not obvious from the train that there is a wildlife park there as the trees obscure most of it.

I was on the train one late afternoon and there were two elderly people who had clearly had a day out in Cambridge. As we went past the wildlife park the woman suddenly gasped, looked horrified and said "Jim, look, there's a tiger in that tree" Her husband looked up but by that time we'd gone on so he couldn't see anything. He then told her she was being ridiculous, she was going batty, of course there wasn't an escaped tiger. She was insistent that she'd seen it and that they needed to let someone know about the escaped tiger.

At first it was quite amusing but then he started saying "I think you must have dementia" and I intervened and explained about the park and the tigers. They both looked quite relieved.

I do wonder what would have happened if I hadn't been there to explain.

A man getting on a train at Manchester with a KFC bargain bucket and eating it all by the time he got to Macclesfield.

A large pig sandwiched between two planks of wood on the back of a moped in Cuba.

Two men trying to put a gold lame wrapped corpse into the back of a motorised rickshaw just outside Varanasi, India.

A little old woman inside a glass coffin queuing to get on a ferry to Corfu - we were on a coach next to her and my little brother was stuck to the window with eyes like saucers.

cataclysmiclife · 04/04/2021 08:27

A camels head hung outside a butchers in Marrakesh to indicate what meat is for sale. A well dressed man walking through Paris with no shoes on, stopping for a coffee and his feet were filthy Confused

HeronLanyon · 04/04/2021 08:31

A weasel chasing and then killing a rabbit maybe 10 times its size. Will never forget the hynotising dances between chases. Awful. Literally. All happening on deserted cliff top valley path. Could have been synchronised dolphin display going on at sea and I would not have been able to drag eyes away.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 04/04/2021 08:32

I forgot the man doing press- ups and planks on the platform at Sth Kensington station. London really is the place for sporting weird shit.,,

Arbadacarba · 04/04/2021 08:50

@cateycloggs

Why was Morris dancing against the law?
Didn't Oliver Cromwell ban it because of its pagan origins?
BeautifulandWilfulandDead · 04/04/2021 10:39

On holiday in Sri Lanka, being driven from one hotel to another. Kids were in the back with OH and I was in the front with the driver. We came to a stop behind a line of cars, I looked round the line and there was a bloody massive elephant standing in the middle of the road! All the cars queued up and, one by one, gave the elephant a piece of fruit out of the window, and then the elephant stepped aside and let that car pass. Brilliant!

mineofuselessinformation · 04/04/2021 11:00

The mention of Morris dancers reminded me.
These folks, to be found in Cambridgeshire.
The most bizarre sight and before they start dancing you expect Alice Cooper type music!

The weirdest thing you've seen.
HunterHearstHelmsley · 04/04/2021 11:01

A man walking his pet lion.

Although he was local so it became a pretty normal sight!

FromDespairToHere · 04/04/2021 11:02

And I've just remembered - a 3-way junction near my house with traffic backed right up for ages. I was walking, not in the car, and I was expecting there to have been a crash but the reason the traffic had stopped is because there were two tortoises doing the wild thang in the middle of the road.
