My cat returned after a year missing

Not sure if anyone cares 😆 but wanted to share my good news!

Over a year ago out cat didn't come home, totally out of character. We walked the streets etc but a few days children were home shielding and then straight from that we went into lockdown. Everyday the children say how much they miss her still.

A few days ago we get a call saying
"are you missing a cat?"
Husband looks around at the cat we have, and answers no.
They say, we have you down as an owner of a cat we scanned.
My husband face was confused and asked "a grey cat"?
Yes they said.

We couldn't believe it. Like I said it's been over a year. Someone had seen her back on NOV but she hasn't let them near and it wasn't until last week they managed to get her and bring her to the vet, who scanned her.

She's settling in really well, she's a little nervous but she's currently sat on my husbands lap purring away. I keep pinching myself, I can't believe she's home!

I know! The person whose garden she had been living in said that she hasn't allowed her near her at all. She's been feeding her but she wouldn't eat unless they went back inside. It's so odd given how different she is with us.

We had a cat that would often go missing for a few days or a week but one day he went off and and the weeks just passed by. we live at the end of the town so it's all fields and forest from from here so we were sure he'd been run over or got into a fight.. He came back so many times with cuts to his head so we wouldn't have been surprised.. Anyway after 2 years he decided to come back to us! Looked like he had been well looked after. He wasn't impressed to come back and find we had a little dog so it took a few weeks before they got along. Then they'd sit in the sun together all day! He stayed around for about 2 years and his little meow just kept getting weaker and weaker and one day he was gone again. This was about 3 years ago so I don't think he'll turn up at the back door again, would be so lovely if he did tho

Awwww sad. Cars are strange animals, they seem to know their own minds. Lovely they got along though, very sweet.

Awwww thanks! I was surprised I had such lovely comments. I thought I may get people saying I was neglectful and I do feel terrible guilt we gave up on her to have found she's lived outside for a year!

Over 2 years now. I have a dog because I couldn’t bear the thought of losing another cat.

frugalkitty · 20/03/2021 19:59

Oh that's so lovely to read OP! The worst thing is not knowing what's happened when the cat goes missing, I'm so glad you had a happy ending Flowers

I am so pleased for you. She looks like a lovely cat and happy to be home.

My beloved cat has recently been diagnosed with untreatable terminal cancer, so I am feeling particularly emotional about cats at the moment and so glad for you that you have had this happy ending.
