My cat returned after a year missing

Not sure if anyone cares 😆 but wanted to share my good news!

Over a year ago out cat didn't come home, totally out of character. We walked the streets etc but a few days children were home shielding and then straight from that we went into lockdown. Everyday the children say how much they miss her still.

A few days ago we get a call saying
"are you missing a cat?"
Husband looks around at the cat we have, and answers no.
They say, we have you down as an owner of a cat we scanned.
My husband face was confused and asked "a grey cat"?
Yes they said.

We couldn't believe it. Like I said it's been over a year. Someone had seen her back on NOV but she hasn't let them near and it wasn't until last week they managed to get her and bring her to the vet, who scanned her.

She's settling in really well, she's a little nervous but she's currently sat on my husbands lap purring away. I keep pinching myself, I can't believe she's home!

@TheOnlyKoiInAPondOfGoldfish

Did you have two cats *@Newnamefor2021* or is old cat having to make friends with a new cat?
I actually do have three now 😆

We have a cat who is 10 years old we had since a kitten, our Birman called Bugsy.

Then we have now again, our 4/5 year old cat called Maz, who was originally a stray who we couldn't find the owner of and when it needed vet care became part of our family.

Then we got a cat just at the start of lockdown as the kids were so devastated and I has assumed she had eaten a poisoned rat so wouldn't be back. The kids were so upset and we thought it would help them, not replace, but help with everything that was happening, and it did. She's a mixed breed with some Bengal and Norwegian forest cat mixed in, absolutely bonkers and called ginger.

Maz, never really mixed with Bugsy, they tolerated each other and didn't fight but just have each other a wide birth. They seem to be the same, he's sniffed her and they have gone back to tolerating each other 😂

The new cat and her have hissed a few times, but seem ok now, think it's will be ok. They have all been used to rabbits moving in periodically (bonding or vet care) and get used to it, so think it will be ok.

Ah that's lovely news, gives me hope as mine has been missing 12 weeks 😭 keep thinking I see him in our street but someone must have a similar cat as this one doesn't have a specific marking that mine does! Had posters up, done door knocking, I put it on Facebook etc. Had a lot of shares etc but not one sighting of him anywhere!

@toocold54

You’ve just made me cry! I’ve had a really tough day and you have made it so much better! Flowers

My cat went missing and got hit by a car. This was over a year ago and I still look out for him hoping he’ll come home even though I know it’s not possible.

Awwww that's so hard. It's awful losing a pet.

My children has a rough year last year, they lost Maz (the cat in question), then a quail (we have quite a few pets) called Thistle (my own bloody fault, thought he was safe but turned my back and magpies got him), and then their hamster who was an old rescue that someone asked us to take on and she lasted about 9 months with us (she was 2 when we got her so on borrowed time). So this was such a lovely surprise to have her home. I'm staring at her now and still in awe she back.

Did you get another cat or was it just too hard?

Make sure vets are aware, they have their own database I think too, so sorry, hope your cat comes back.

Wonderful news! Some friends of mine had their cat return after 4 years. She just appear on their garden yelling for her dinner, like she'd never Been away. They suspect she'd been cat napped by someone near by.

That's brilliant!

TomorrowIsAnotherDae · 15/03/2021 20:56

I’m happy for you OP 😻

I reunited a stray that was hanging around near me in winter with his owners. My neighbour was feeding him but putting him out at night. The poor thing just cried outside NDN’s door all night. I decided to get him checked out at my own cat’s vets for fleas and general health and I would take him in overnight. Turned out he was chipped and had been missing for 6 years! Like another post up thread, his owners had moved about half a mile away and he’d just run off one day and not made it back. They put up flyers for him but no luck.

Hopefully when it’s safe to do so I’ll pop round for a cuppa and catch up with his owners and a cuddle with the little fella.

Mum497 · 15/03/2021 21:03

Babygotblueyes · 15/03/2021 21:14

Congratulations! So glad she got home!

amylou8 · 15/03/2021 21:19

That's great news! My cat Daisy arrived on our doorstep as a stray. We got her scanned and it turned out she lived about a mile away, and had been missing for almost a year. In the interim her family had got a dog and didn't feel it was fair to have her back, so she stayed with us. She's decided she's had enough of the great outdoors, and apart from a potter half way down the garden if the sun is out, she's a permanent fixture curled up on the bed.

Ijustlikedthename · 15/03/2021 21:27

What a happy ending!
