My cat returned after a year missing

Not sure if anyone cares 😆 but wanted to share my good news!

Over a year ago out cat didn't come home, totally out of character. We walked the streets etc but a few days children were home shielding and then straight from that we went into lockdown. Everyday the children say how much they miss her still.

A few days ago we get a call saying
"are you missing a cat?"
Husband looks around at the cat we have, and answers no.
They say, we have you down as an owner of a cat we scanned.
My husband face was confused and asked "a grey cat"?
Yes they said.

We couldn't believe it. Like I said it's been over a year. Someone had seen her back on NOV but she hasn't let them near and it wasn't until last week they managed to get her and bring her to the vet, who scanned her.

She's settling in really well, she's a little nervous but she's currently sat on my husbands lap purring away. I keep pinching myself, I can't believe she's home!

Great news! This happened to us - after 6 months we got our cat back but she got run over a week later. Sad

That's great news, I have three cats, and they have never gone missing, but you sometimes read a story like yours, where a cat comes home, and hopefully remembers you after settling back in again.

Oh no! So sorry, hope this didn't bring up painful memories. So sad.

Beautiful cat, even with the unruly fur.

Newnamefor2021 · 15/03/2021 19:42

@Sewgood

That is really lovely news OP. It's so important to keep your contact details updated with the chip companies. I do some shelter work and so many that come in are chipped but numbers are no longer valid so no way of contacting owners. Bet your kids are made up.
They are, first day back at school today and think the entire school know the news 😆

That’s so lovely. It gives me hope that my cat will return from his adventures. He’s been missing for a year now.

So sorry, I really hope he does. I had given up hope, I just can't get over she's back.

We had a big old cat green tabby. He used to disappear for days, weeks and months then stroll in demanding food. He was huge so someone was feeding him - mum said he probably had several homes (and names).

Horsemad · 15/03/2021 19:47

Aww, how lovely. ❤️

billybagpuss · 15/03/2021 19:47

She’s beautiful, it might be less stressful for her to cut the matting out, don’t try and do it all at once just when she’s chilled snip a little bit off.

alwaystiredalwaysgrumpy · 15/03/2021 19:48

@Newnamefor2021 what a lovely story! Your cat looks like a Nebelung, just like mine. Absolutely gorgeous.

Newnamefor2021 · 15/03/2021 19:51

My husband said, "I feel so bad we have missed an entire year of her life" and it made me so sad I welled up. She seems to happy to be home.

She found a quiet spot behind the chair my husband usually sits and that's her safe spot. Children aren't allowed to bother her there but she comes out when called so that's lovely. She sat on both our laps now, so I think she's settling back in well.

Wonderful news you must be buzzing :)

TheOnlyKoiInAPondOfGoldfish · 15/03/2021 19:52

@GoneCrazy

Why did your DH say you weren’t missing a cat?
because it's been missing a year and they'd given up hope and had a new cat - which wasn't missing.
SandysMam · 15/03/2021 19:52

I love how cats choose where they want to be! She would probably argue she wasn’t missing at all as she knew exactly where she was Grin
Beautiful Cat Op, thanks for sharing, really made me smile!

Thanks. Yes, that's what we are doing. Vet shaved some bits and I think we will need to shave some more areas, but right now we are just cutting odd bits here and there. She always hated being groomed but she wasn't as fluffy as this then 😆 clearly developed a thick winter coat to deal with being outside.

Did you have two cats @Newnamefor2021 or is old cat having to make friends with a new cat?

TheOnlyKoiInAPondOfGoldfish · 15/03/2021 19:57

don;t worry - I've now read all your posts and have the answer! She looks just like a hairy grey I used to have - his fur could be a nightmare too!

What a great story!

toocold54 · 15/03/2021 19:58

You’ve just made me cry!
I’ve had a really tough day and you have made it so much better! Flowers

My cat went missing and got hit by a car. This was over a year ago and I still look out for him hoping he’ll come home even though I know it’s not possible.
