Are you sure some of these aren't voice recognition software errors?

Doesn't matter really, we are just chuckling at the results.

@2018SoFarSoGreat

oh my god. It is quite terrifying that we have lost so much in the ability to determine what a word is, and how to spell it. I mean, you can ask Siri or Google to spell it if you can say it. IF. I guess that's the problem.

(anyone else now singing to their microwave - 'rows the boat ashore')

But only if you don't say it in any type of regional accent.... And it will only spell what you say. And anyway, when Google or Siri start getting the basic things right I'll trust it with spelling.....

"What time is my appointment at the Doctor's Siri?"

"There's 8 shops near you open now that sell hats"

🤦🏼‍♀️😂

@senua

I did a quick google to see if there was a reason for 'shezlon'. I didn't find one but did find a disturbing number of 'chaise lounge'.Confused
My ex MIL always pronounced it chez lounge. Hmm
ememem84 · 15/03/2021 18:40

Granny has always pronounced faux pas as “fox pass” that’s one that’s stuck with me.

There’s a local cafe here called “mange tout” The singage is in cursive. Dm misread it as “mango toot” so that’s what we now call it.

YouokHun · 15/03/2021 18:42

Moët is pronounced with a hard "t". Common misconception that it isn't

Yes @Weallfloatdownhere, hard T but not Mow-it. Should be Mmmwet e Chandon.

RickiTarr · 15/03/2021 18:45

Goldylion · 15/03/2021 18:45

Growing up me & my sister always used to say pot purée for pot pourri as an in joke. We once had a buffet lunch at work & I said why is there pot purée in the middle of the table. Double cringe as it was vegetable crisps 😂

Baconking · 15/03/2021 18:46

@Blinkyblonkyblimey

‘Voovey Clickwot’ - Veuve Clicquot Champagne?
No wonder I couldn't work it out.

I've never heard of it!Confused

Chersfrozenface · 15/03/2021 18:47

@MNWorldisCrazy

I can across one woman in America who called clothes 'close' Hmm
'cloze' is a pretty common (mis)pronunciation of 'clothes'.

When I was a child, we called a single garment a "clo' as a family in-joke.

MsTSwift · 15/03/2021 18:51

My mum used to call the conservatory a “conservatoire” sort of as a joke but we hosted European teens and one actually went to a conservatoire which is a posh French music school and she got terribly confused by what mum was wibbling on about 😁

Mosaic123 · 15/03/2021 18:52

I worked in a perfume shop and on Christmas Eve a guy came in and asked for Canal Water? 'It's Canal 2 or 5 or something"

(Channel No 5).

YNK · 15/03/2021 18:54

I saw a sign in a car park that took hours for the penny to drop

BunnyRuddington · 15/03/2021 19:08

Our local paper once had an ad for Coy Carp. Someone must have pointed put there was an error so the next night it was changed to Koy Karp.

TedMullins · 15/03/2021 19:09

2andahalfpints · 15/03/2021 19:11

Once went round to a neighbours house. Upon admiring thier new sofa, they started telling us what a bargain it was - what with it being that Fox leather like it was a special brand 🤨

SunshineCake · 15/03/2021 19:12

All very amusing but so depressing at the level of education, home support and lack of desire to learn to spell correctly.

Chersfrozenface · 15/03/2021 19:13

Welsh speakers heard this pronunciation so often that the word 'cement' was borrowed into Welsh as 'sment'. Go on, look it up in a Welsh dictionary.

Oh, and you know the way 'police' is pronounced 'pleesse', even on the BBC? Yup, so common that the Welsh loanword taken from 'policeman' is 'plismon'.

(The 'o' is more than likely from the West Midlands pronunciation where 'man' is 'mon', 'mam' is 'mom' and 'hammer' is 'ommer'.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 15/03/2021 19:14

Years ago, when we were living in Foreign Parts, there was a shop sign that read F.F.Arts in big red letters.
A pic of that earned me a tenner from Private Eye, for their I-Spy slot.😊
