Crawling back to normality slightly slower than a tortoise taking the scenic route...

Morning all

Finally managed to get my preferred Pratchett name-change Grin

I wonder how many people see it as a Pratchett character as opposed to being about someone else who also fits the bill. Grin
BIoodyStupidJohnson · 15/03/2021 10:05

@NannyGythaOgg Well that would be a matter for them. Grin

TrustTheGeneGenie · 15/03/2021 13:01

checking in!

nothing much to tell you. same shit different day!

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 14:40

Pleased to say Tube was full of people ostentatiously carrying mummy gifts.

Neighbours tell me main road routes were busy.

chocolatesweets sorry if I have confused your kind post. I don't care that I don't care about people or community any more. I suspect it will be good for me. It is already actually, I am cutting off contact with so e acquaintances who were just takers.

Last year, I offered to help a widowed neighbour because probate etc is hard when you're in a state. Sorry to say, i rather regret it now. I don't mind the practical work but I have foolishly lumbered myself with another widow talking on and on about her husband, i had mum to cope with already.

Keeping myself to a very small circle of friends now.

I know the shopping helpers in my flats are really pissed off now too.

'It's a bathroom,' said Ridcully. 'You are all acting as if it's some kind of a torture chamber.'

'A bathroom,' said the Dean, 'designed by Bloody Stupid Johnson. Archchancellor Weatherwax only used it once and then had it sealed up! Museum, I beg you to reconsider! It's a Johnson!'

Grin

Buggering auto correct. That's Mustrum, not museum. Damn phone!

Can any of you lovely lot help me with regards to Minecraft please? I know pretty much nothing. DS (6) desperately wants it. He has a kindle fire. I can't work out if I can put it on his section of the fire and it'll work or not. It's one I'd have to buy which is OK but I don't want him to be able to buy anything while playing or to communicate with people I don't know. It's a minefield. I'm not even certain It's age appropriate but I think he's played it previously at holiday club. The older he gets the more I worry because he's a lot smarter than I was at his age. I can see him running rings round me in the next few years.

Not a lot going on here. We've home schooled fine today. He made a fair bit of effort actually. I had a jog round downstairs in the hope of upping my step count to something that doesn't make me feel sick. I miss work.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2021 15:49

DS2 was playing minecraft by 6. Neither of mine are allowed ingame purchases which they've never pushed. It's a great game and pretty "safe"

There are minecraft based games on servers that are open and public that mine have discovered since and they are more competitive. My two aren't inclined to get involved in text based chat. It takes too long to type and play!

I do get muddled on types on devices and logins. It's not the most intuitive game in that department, but on balance it's a great game and has plenty of benefits.

And it is possible to play offline too, it seems.

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 16:27

Does anyone here know what's going on with the Policing Bill, please?

Yesterday I heard Starmer was instructing Labour to abstain but now all I can find is a confusing mish mash that's probably not up to date.

Thanks.

MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 16:34

Labour are going to oppose it. They changed their minds in the early hours of Sunday morning.

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 16:37

Thank you Mercy
Do you know what time the debate is?

I honestly haven't seen this being updated since last year!

I saw something about an hour ago but i couldnt stand to listen to Priti Patel. I notice there is no Covid press briefing today despite there being one every Monday since 4th Jan. Fucking cowards just dont want to face questions about what happened on Saturday night.

I have no idea about this stuff now...nice to have no idea about Covid breifings.

Just sent emails to local MP and Mayor, for second time, about the joys of being the only woman in the Tube carriage and surrounded by masked men. This happens a LOT. Not the men's fault of course.

I have changed carriages a couple of times because of it.

MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 17:23

@AcornAutumn I bet things like that havent occurred to any of them Angry

MercyBooth · 15/03/2021 17:38

@AcornAutumn Im on Sky News. They are going to go live to the Commons debate very shortly

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 18:39

Thanks Mercy

For a minute there, I thought you were on Sky News!

I am honestly surprised more people didn't care about the safety risk re masks but my sister tells me after a few drinks no one in the carriage wears them. I haven't been to a bar since they opened due to tracking, I can't see the point in risking two weeks stuck in the flat.

I think there are some pro lockdowners who would break quarantine if they got caught in that net.

I'm making myself angry again, better go now!

Hi all

Just checking in. There are a few news stories about birth rates having fallen drastically and I really want to jump up and down and say “SEE?!? I TOLD you so!!!” But it’s just my husband and children here so I won’t. They already think I’m a lunatic who talks to herself

Have they? That's one bit of good news

I feared a baby boom with people shagging out of boredom.

More Or Less said it would be a baby bust rather than a baby boom (because so many people are in economically worse situations).
CruCru · 15/03/2021 20:41

Supposedly there was a 21.6% fall in the birth rate in Italian cities in December 2020 compared with December 2019. In France there was a 13% fall in January 2021 compared with January 2020.

The ban on weddings is expected to really hit Italy (where most babies are born in wedlock).

BogRollBOGOF · 15/03/2021 20:58

Some pregnancies would be brought forwards instead of weddings.
But more people too economically unstable, and certainly less younger siblings when #1 would normally have been at school/ nursery.
And just being together far too much.
Relationship break-ups. Difficulty with dating/ distance relationships.
Plus sitting on the sofa watching netflix rather than going upstairs early Wink

Good news, it won't be showing up significantly on the census data as we're still in the first few months of babies conceived since lockdown #1 started.

People may have stayed at home, but not so much of staying the fuck at home Grin

Excellent Bogroll !

AcornAutumn · 15/03/2021 21:21

I do think there's going to be some interesting flings after this

I don't date but even I'm considering a fling, lot of blokes doing puppy eyes since the start of lockdown, some quite good looking ones too.

Even in the supermarket! On the one hand it's funny but I guess in a way it's sad because they are that lonely.

Sadly the baby boom might be there..not for me of course but it's a possibility, a lot of people will just be off their face, shagging around and might forget the most important things!
