Crawling back to normality slightly slower than a tortoise taking the scenic route...

chocolatesweets post lockdown, I don't care about people or community any more and I used to really care.

But I do still care about cleanliness and so on.

ISaySteadyOn · 14/03/2021 11:02

On that note, if we're going to clap for anyone, it should be for Joseph Bazalgette who created the sewer network in London.

TheOrchidKiller · 14/03/2021 11:28

@110APiccadilly
Absolutely fair & proportionate. I would think up a few other chores for him to do as well. He won't forget again.

To be fair, he really does pull his weight domestically, and I'd rather have him do that consistently than do very little most of the time but lots and lots on Mothers Day!!

TheOrchidKiller · 14/03/2021 15:18

Fair enough, Piccadilly. I think I probably agree with you.

I am on strike today. I've said it's what I want for today's dinner, & I choose crisps and gin. No one is complaining.

Just Zoomed With Mother. It wasn't as bad as I thought, once we got past the, "Orchid! Orchid, you're all blurry!" comments.

DPs said they bump into old friends on their walks & the conversation is about lockdown boredom & which vaccine they've had / if they had side effects/ what happened at the vaccine centre. It's the highlight of the week. Dad remarked that no one is ever usually that interested in the detail of your trip to the GP's!

MercyBooth · 14/03/2021 16:08

Well They cant say that we didnt tell them Over There Because we did tell them so.

Quite, Mercy. I mostly lurk on threads but I love seeing your work on them Smile.

@LivinLaVidaLoki your mum sounds like she was an awesome woman.

Flowers Cake for everyone.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/03/2021 19:08

BiL was full of it talking about his vaccine the other day. He's normally quite brusk.

I shall avenge everyone when I finally get round to having my smear test Grin

OP posts:
TheOrchidKiller · 14/03/2021 20:01

Exactly, Bogroll. No man one wants to hear about what type of speculum they used at your smear test, & how far up the swab went.
But when it comes to The Vaccine...pfizer or astrazeneca? If your arm didn't drop off & if you didn't run a fever of 39c did you even have the vaccine? And as for a covid test, if it's not touching your brain & making your eyes water, you're not doing it properly!

110APiccadilly · 14/03/2021 20:03

I do not understand everyone who keeps saying how they've been for their vaccine on social media. I don't advertise it when I have medical appointments. (Or virtue signal when I give blood, in order to "protect others".)

110APiccadilly · 14/03/2021 20:04

I am clearly too worked up about that; I was incoherent! I meant people who say on social media that they have been for their vaccine.

Lollyneenah · 14/03/2021 20:17

An up and down day here for me.
I've had a tricky relationship with my mum ever since I can remember but she's been sober okay ish recently.
Anyway, saw her outside to give her her mothers day gift and went in for a hug.
She said very sharply 'NO DONT DO THAT-PANDEMIC?!' and glared at me Sad.
I'm 33 and a mum in my own right and I really felt like I'd been slapped.
Shes had both vaccine doses, as has her husband. Neither of them are shielding (both work).

It really hurt, especially considering she was happy enough to go to the hairdressers illegally yesterday.

Thankful to have my own wonderful dd who cuddled me like mad once we got back home 💗

SirSamuelVimes · 14/03/2021 20:32

Oh @Lollyneenah, I'm so sorry that you had that experience. Glad your own DD was there to cuddle you.

I'm feeling a bit bad about my own mum - we had a video chat but I haven't been round as DD got sent home to isolate on Thurs after her bubble burst at school. I don't have to stay home but she'd be a bit gutted about me going out to see her beloved GM when she can't so we've decided to put off mother's day til next Sunday. But I've still had mother's day today at home so it feels a bit mean.

Lollyneenah · 14/03/2021 21:10

Thanks @sirsamuelvines sorry you didn't get to see your mum.
The covid slap seems to hit hard on the special days for sure! I hope you have a lovely second mothers day next week Flowers

Evenstar · 14/03/2021 21:15

Poor DH got up early to make me a cup of tea this morning, no children at home as DS17 went back to his boarding sixth form last weekend. He was the treated to a rant triggered by reading the morning news about how women are treated on the streets by men with harassment, comments etc and the way the police had behaved yesterday Blush I think I regaled him with everything I had ever been subjected to from my teens to the present day.

The day did improve with lovely flowers and gifts from the children and a lovely lunch cooked by DH.

Hug and 💐 to all who need them.

Pleasedontdothat · 14/03/2021 21:24

I’ve actually had a really good day - dd made me a lovely card (featuring my favourite ‘child’ Wink) plus I got breakfast in bed, she made a cake and got me flowers. I went for a lovely long dog walk with dh, then went off to the yard for some equine therapy (ie grooming our old boy who is guaranteed to induce a feeling of calm and well-being) and then going on a hack with dd and her mare. Then came home to a takeaway from one of my favourite restaurants ... as far as lockdown weekend days go, it’s not been bad Smile

I know that in some areas where take up is low/patchy they are asking people to publicise it to try reassure those who are worried about going for theirs. Whether it works? ...
BogRollBOGOF · 14/03/2021 23:20

I'm glad vaccine progress is so good, it's just after a year of rainbows, banana bread, stay the fuck at home, watch netflix, masks being like pants, socially distanced of course etc there's just been so much virtue signalling that something genuinely useful is being bought down to the same mix.

Although when DM had hers a while back, she was genuinely excited as it was her first outing to the city centre since 2019, plus there's been a lot of work in that part of town so it was a genuine novelty for someone who has hunkered down at home (she had a rough start to 2020 even before Covid added to the mix)

I do think some of it is just that it's something different after such prolonged tedium!
