Crawling back to normality slightly slower than a tortoise taking the scenic route...

Hope all goes well on Monday @Jourdain11 💐

TrustTheGeneGenie · 20/03/2021 22:46

Just catching up.

Good luck for Monday @Jourdain11 Flowers

Also re testing for primary kids, nope not doing it. Ignorance is bliss as far as I am concerned. Will test him if he's poorly and same goes for me and dp. School sent us a text saying they were available to collect if we wanted them and nothing more which I think is the correct approach.

Curlygirl06 · 20/03/2021 22:57

@Jourdain11 good luck from me too.

I've been told I can have some of those tests, as I look after my grandchildren and take one to school and collect him on Friday. Nope, I'm not doing it either, too much talk of incorrect results.

AcornAutumn · 20/03/2021 23:02

All good wishes for you Jourdain.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/03/2021 08:34

Good luck @Jourdain11
Good to see you back!

Worldgonecrazy · 21/03/2021 09:08

@Jourdain11 hope all goes well tomorrow z

Worldgonecrazy · 21/03/2021 09:10

Argh! Trying to figure out Portuguese rules. It looks like masks are mandatory in public indoor spaces until July except where incompatible with the activity taking place. Does that mean that anyone going to a gig has to wear a mask? It doesn’t feel compatible with the activity, but it’s hard enough trying to fathom the U.K. government rules, never mind google translate on Portuguese websites

Lostinacloud · 21/03/2021 09:24

This news about no summer holidays is yet more mind control imho.

First they introduced “the roadmap” just as everyone was tiring of lockdown and many people were seeing that people actually vulnerable from covid were being vaccinated. That held everyone off from Christmas time until the February date touted for weeks as the great reveal of “the plan”. Roll on a few more weeks when daily cases are almost negligent, deaths are under 100 over a period of nearly a month and over 50% of all adults, vulnerable or not, have been vaccinated. The public start to question the slow release and there’s even some protests and calls for freedom. Heaven forbid!

Next day, lo and behold - “Hey British public, behave and follow the roadmap dates without anymore of this questioned thinking or self appointed risk taking or risk nobody being allowed on holiday this summer”.

And it works!! Already the coronavirus boards are awash with posters making statements about just forgoing one more holiday period to avoid any more lockdowns. Have these people not been awake for the last year and seen how many “just wait for this or just hold off for a bit longer” there have been?

And finally, the wave sweeping Europe currently is predominantly the uk variant (72% of all cases in france). A variant that has already been and gone in the uk and to which the vaccines are effective, so what’s the problem?

Taswama · 21/03/2021 10:03

Good luck for tomorrow Jourdain .

Is there a date when we can expect confirmation of whether the next phase of the roadmap (12 April) will proceed?

Worldgonecrazy · 21/03/2021 10:04

@Lostinacloud you are so right. Can’t believe people are still believing this shit.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/03/2021 13:39

I'm definitely much more cynical than a year ago. Not a conspiracy as in it all being planned, but a lot of opportunism at a multitude of levels. And a lot of tokenism and protectionism.

It does astound me how many lap up each cycle of doom from one week to the next, yet the appocalypse never happens.
A winter peak was pretty inevitable. I just hope that when we hit the next respiritory illness season, there will be too much appetite for normality for people to willingly ahere to reintroductions of measures.

I'd be counting down the days until 12th April if I'd had much sense of time left Grin

Lostinacloud
Absolutely agree. The cognitive dissonance is beyond belief.
+Do none of them see the problem with 'the vaccines are the only way out' but 'vaccinated or not, lockdown must continue'. If you're already in a social group which doesn't much trust the authorities and the government says that the vaccine is both brilliant and pointless, why on earth would you trust them.
And all the hand-wringing virtue signalling middle classes wittering on about saving lives in the face of the death toll on SE Asian children caused by first World hysteria makes me sick. What the f has happened to the left wing? Oh yes of course, shouting about lockdown protesters shows you're a good and honourable person who cares about SAVING LIVES...as long as they're sentimentalised lives of 'people taken too soon by this deadly virus', not if they're any other lives.
I'm so depressed today. Just so utterly utterly sick of it all.

AcornAutumn · 21/03/2021 14:20
@AcornAutumn If I were closer I’d happily pop round to you for a coffee and a chat. My friends are similar, all absolutely petrified for some bizarre reason. Not one with any underlying health conditions but apparently Covid is a death sentence to them all Hmm

Good luck on Monday @Jourdain11 Flowers
Thank you
I really appreciate that.

thefallthroughtheair · 21/03/2021 16:28

Acorn, sorry it's so crap. I wish people weren't so rule-bound. I would dearly love to break the rules more but only have one friend who's willing to and can only only cope with her in small doses.
I'm really introverted and always pre-Covid being teased by friends for never wanting to go out but I'm so lonely now. And I don't even want to talk to my friends really because they're not at all on the same page as me.
Jourdain, very best wishes for Monday.

SirSamuelVimes · 21/03/2021 16:29

Yes, this is my take on it too.

thefallthroughtheair · 21/03/2021 16:36

I know I'm on a real downer today but I keep remembering the first threads from months (and many name changes) ago where one of the things we used to vent about was all the people saying things would never get back to normal. We were trying to hold out hope and many of us were even mocking about it (I for one enjoy a good bit of sarcasm!) but I have to say that it kind of looks like we were wrong and the f'ing BDs were right. Talk now in the news of the 'difficult autumn' and masks and travel restrictions being here for years. Wtaf. So will the government please tell me wtf is the point of this incredible vaccination programme (and hats off, it has been an outstanding effort in my view, whatever I personally feel about the Covid vax for me and mine) if this shit is going to last for years.
And who's going to pay for it? Not me. I haven't had a net income for months, and I'm one of the lucky, middle class, wealthy people, so where the f### is the tax coming from?

thefallthroughtheair · 21/03/2021 16:37

I so agree about the opportunism. A lot of very wealthy people are doing extremely well out of this.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 21/03/2021 16:47

I have been feeling shit, so down. Hence I have been quiet on here. The I decided, fuck it, I am going to see my friend on Tues. In a different city. She is struggling and about to have a baby. I am struggling and depressed. We just need to see each other and have a hug.

AcornAutumn · 21/03/2021 17:18

Same here

In some ways I'm in a better position because I saw it as very long term, based on the politics and two year Coronavirus Act. So I planned stuff to do myself but I am so lonely and really pissed off with some of my friends actually.

SirSamuelVimes · 21/03/2021 18:09

@TooManyPlatesInMotion enjoy seeing your friend. I hope you both feel better!

I have new neighbours. They are definitely ADs, they've had a good few different sets of mates round to toast the new house in the garden and help shift stuff about. We had a good chat over the fence and agreed that this time of year was notorious for back garden mirages that make it appear as though there are more people in the garden than live in the house. Stranger atmospheric conditions happen! Grin

justasking111 · 21/03/2021 18:11

Anyone else on here getting advertising for tortoises leopard ones??

justasking111 · 21/03/2021 18:14

@TooManyPlatesInMotion go see your friend DS and girlfriend snuck back this week , they had two nights of solid sleep ate like horses and went back saying how much better they felt. You and your friend will too 💐💐

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/03/2021 19:08

@Lostinacloud it's like the old days in the pandemic when they'd doom and gloom us when there was a bank holiday or a sunny weekend. How are people still falling for this bullshit.
@thefallthroughtheair have you ever noticed these doom laden prophecies are always at the weekend, when you won't get a response from the government or anything....leaving people to speculate and speculate and get hysterical. Its just cruel. Utterly cruel to keep everyone in this heightened state of anxiety, stressing, worrying and turning on each other.

ISaySteadyOn · 21/03/2021 19:21

Flowers to everyone.

ISaySteadyOn · 21/03/2021 19:35
