Inspired by a thread about bad singers. In your opinion, which singers have the best voices? I'll vote:

Michael Jackson
Stevie Wonder
James Morrison (underrated)
Christina Aguilera
Celion Dion
Mariah Carey
Whitney Houston
Joss Stone

@AgentCooper

It was Boy George after Do You Really Want To Hurt Me, Time and the early stuff, so mid to late 1980's. He sounded flipping awesome and the best bit was I had the benefit of his raw voice. It was a beautiful mid summer evening and the streets were quiet and he just belted them out. Such control and so much feeling.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2021 19:58

Forgot Sarah Vaughan and Thomas Dybdahl

Chicchicchicchiclana · 05/03/2021 19:59

Watched an old episode of Top Of The Pops this afternoon and been reminded of Jimmy Somerville - incredible singer.

And also Andy Bell from Erasure, he could belt out a song and properly own it.

covetingthepreciousthings · 05/03/2021 20:00

Don't think he's been mentioned but Rag N Bone man always blows me away when I see him sing live on tv shows, haven't been lucky enough to see him live in person yet though.

covetingthepreciousthings · 05/03/2021 20:01

@Lua

I know it sounds insane but... Mily Cyrus. Her covers are amazing and of such a range that it is incredible!
Yes, I saw her doing a live lounge (maybe?) of Jolene and it was amazing. She's got an amazing voice.
endlesswicker · 05/03/2021 20:03

@activitythree

George Michael was astonishing..such control. His performance of Somebody To Love at the FM tribute was flawless.

This is my all time favourite piece of live music footage. In the entire world. I'm glad to see George Michael mentioned so many times on here.

It's interesting to get an idea of peoples perspective though. Talking about 'wow' singers I would not put Britney, BTS and the like anywhere near a wow list!!

And the person who said Paul McCartney Sad not even a particularly good vocalist, let alone 'wow'

Hearing George Michael singing that live still gives me goosebumps all over. That performance elevated him from pop star to global megastar.

@GrouchyKiwi

Josh Groban Karen Carpenter Nina Simone Josh Groban Ella Fitzgerald Agnetha from ABBA Josh Groban Sara Bareilles Bing Crosby
Good to see some love for Josh Groban (lots of it!) and Sara Bareilles.

I saw Sara in Waitress in February last year, and at Islington Assembly Hall back in 2014. Her voice is so so beautiful and full of emotion. I've seen Josh Groban live several times, I could listen to him sing all day long.

Pinksmyfavoritecolour · 05/03/2021 20:07

Paloma Faith
Heather Small

K.D Lang. Just beautiful.
How did I forget K.D. Lang!
CarolNoE · 05/03/2021 20:07

Lockie Chapman, Aussie guy from The Overtones, now solo. Hope to see him this summer in a garden gig, so soulful and deep.

minniemoocher · 05/03/2021 20:13

Sara Barellies but she's musical theatre really. My favourite singer is Alfie Boe.

Katjolo · 05/03/2021 20:14

Whitney Houston
Mariah Carey
Luther Vandross
Brian Mc Knight
Celine Dion
Stevie Wonder
Jessie J
Lady Gaga

But for pop - Lady Gaga, amazing live

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2021 20:15

RichardMarx (love your SN) I am so envious that you have heard Josh live. We were going to go to his All That Echoes tour but it was on when we were going to be in NZ for my Dad's birthday so I missed out. Angry ONE DAY!

I love Sara's voice. Her duet with Josh on Harmony is so good.

LovesToBeInFrontOfTheCamera · 05/03/2021 20:16

@marriednotdead

Another vote for George Michael, Pink and Mica Paris

Maxwell

Luther Vandross- lucky enough to see him live several times and his voice was flawless.

Agree Luther Vandross - just amazing, so glad I got to see him before he died.

Also
Stevie Wonder
Lionel Richie
Tina Turner

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2021 20:16

Also: the soprano who sang at Harry & Meghan's wedding was AMAZING. I don't usually like soprano voices but hers was crystal pure and fantastic. I really must look up who she is.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2021 20:18

Bic Runga!

Sorry, I'll stop adding now.

GrouchyKiwi · 05/03/2021 20:19

Elin Manahan Thomas was the soprano.

DahliaMacNamara · 05/03/2021 20:20

Judith Durham
Morten Harket
Tom Chaplin
Roger Hodgson
Joan Armatrading

IstandwithJackieWeaver · 05/03/2021 20:21

I haven't read the whole thread, but Mick Hucknall live was amazing when I saw Simply Red 25 years ago.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 05/03/2021 20:23

@minniemoocher

Sara Barellies but she's musical theatre really. My favourite singer is Alfie Boe.
She's written the score for a musical and has starred in it, but I wouldn't describe her as musical theatre. She's a singer-songwriter who has released 6 studio albums, plus live albums, in addition to the Waitress soundtrack.
TuesdayinSeptember · 05/03/2021 20:23

@NoMackerelInSwindon

I am showing my age and range here. Old head and young heart Grin

I was once staying in a hotel in Luxembourg in the room next to the suite in which one of the following was staying. I sat on my bed and listened to them practice one summer evening and my goodness it was awesome.

Al Martino
Andy Williams
Karen Carpenter
Lou Rawls
George Michael
Boy George
Christina Aguilera
Ariana Grande

I've also stayed in the next bedroom to one on your list! Sadly didn't hear a thing though Sad
ChocBeforeCock · 05/03/2021 20:27

I appreciate not everyone likes musical theatre but...

Ramin Karimloo has an astonishing voice. Powerful but expressive.

Also Lea Salonga. Her voice is just gorgeous. She sings On My Own like it’s easy. Even other amazing singers sound like they’re hitting a big note but for her it just sounds effortless.
