The latest royal family drama

It's like a TV show. How embarrassing!

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/royal-aides-reveal-meghan-bullying-claim-before-oprah-interview-7sxfvd2c3

The latest is that Meghan is accused of bullying staff. Harry and Meghan then responded that Buckingham Palace was using the Times to peddle false stories/a smear campaign. So presumably the "leak" comes from Buckingham Palace/the Queen.

It's all so childish. Why can't they all just be grateful for the extremely cushy life that they have!

I'll be watching the Oprah interview. I think the royals never come across well in these kind of things. Like Andrew's awful interview...he's just so out of touch with reality. And I think that's a characteristic that Harry unfortunately shares with him.

@Roussette I think you are right, they are experiencing a colossal loss of control

Gone are the days where people are quietly banished and the press get a sanitised report of what happened that is released to public who have no way of getting to the truth

The gossip now leaks beyond the Court walls

TheKeatingFive · 04/03/2021 11:44

I think once The Queen goes it will look different. Charles doesn’t have her personal popularity, but he’ll ride the crest of that wave for a while. Support will diminish slowly. I hope he does ‘slim down‘, it’s the right thing to do.

A lot will then depend on whether Wills can hold it together when it’s his turn. I’m not sure, he comes across as a tricky character (no idea if that’s actually true though).

Keeping Kate onside is very important, a divorce there would be a big set back.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 04/03/2021 11:44

The whole system is rotten. The RF are operating on outdated principles of privilege, inherited wealth and lack of scrutiny. It's time there was a referendum on them. Young people hardly know who they are and don't care either. I used to quite like to follow their doings in a distracted sort of way . Now I just want them gone.
The fact that these two spoilt and entitled people can live like millionaires on inherited wealth whilst doing nothing worthwhile or useful is disgraceful. All the while bemoaning how hard done by they are and how they have 'suffered'. It's disgusting. Their Netflix and Spotify contracts handed to them on a plate when they have no expertise or experience at all to qualify them to produce programmes or decide on content. They are making millions on the back of their association with the RF whilst discrediting them in public. Meghan preaching about compassion and kindness, whilst treating her staff like this without any repercussions, and ignoring her father.
PA is a disgusting person, and everyone has known for years that he is a boorish, spoilt and rude man. At least however he isn't making programmes complaining about how hard done by he is. Or lecturing us on how to live our lives. I hope he is investigated and held to account, but it seems poor behaviour goes without consequences in the RF.

They're not responding to 'subjects'. They're responding to a tell-all interview on a global platform. Regardless of social media, it would always have generated a response especially if high-level staff start thinking in terms of tribunals to clear their names against any smears that may be about to be broadcast.

TheKeatingFive · 04/03/2021 11:46

It's time there was a referendum on them

If the polls are to be believed, that wouldn’t get the republicans anywhere right now.

However, five years into Charles reign might be interesting.

SabrinaMorningstar · 04/03/2021 11:49

A referendum now would be a waste of time. There is a lot of affection for HMQ and PP. However, once they're both gone and Charles has been on the throne for a few years, then a referendum might be interesting.

Dongdingdong · 04/03/2021 11:51

I still find it hard to believe the Oprah interview is going to be explosive. I just can't see Harry allowing it but who knows.

I agree, I think it’s been carefully edited for the trailers to look sensational so we all tune in, but in reality it’ll just focus on positive stuff like their charity work, moving forward and so on. They’re not going to sling any mud at Wills and Kate or anything like that.

People said that about Brexit
TheKeatingFive · 04/03/2021 11:55

People said that about Brexit

The polls were close on brexit in fairness. They aren’t on this.

However I think many people mistake support for the Queen as a person with support for monarchy as an institution.

Things will look quite different after she’s gone.

Roussette · 04/03/2021 11:55

At least however he isn't making programmes complaining about how hard done by he is

No he just does an interview to try and sweep his atrocious behaviour under the carpet. And when challenged he refused to say it was wrong that he was friends with a paedophile.

Mummy195 · 04/03/2021 11:57

A quick pullback from Kate Robinson. I wonder why she even tweeted in the first place. Did she not look around and see that most patronages said they wanted to keep the Sussexes?

"1/2 I am so sorry. I sent a tweet this morning that was unduly critical of people I admire, care about and have worked with for a long time. People have called me out on it and they were right to do so – we should all choose to contribute to a culture of kindness."

Roussette · 04/03/2021 11:58

I agree. The generation that remembers Edward's abdication, the unrest then, are older and won't be around forever. For everyone else, all they know is Elizabeth.
When she is gone, it will be very different

Samcro · 04/03/2021 11:59

@SabrinaMorningstar maybe the defenders as you call them are waiting to see if its true, before sharpening their pitchforks.

I really wonder what will happen to the RF in the future, younger people I speak to do not respect the queen, they just see someone who will do a
address to the nation, with a expensive piano in the background.
add in PA and if all the Meghan being a bully turns out to be true, a firm that takes no responsibility how their staff is treated.
I think their days are numbered.

Wondermule · 04/03/2021 11:59

Does anyone else think Wallis Simpson looks like James McAvoy with long hair?

Stratfordplace · 04/03/2021 11:59

You wouldn’t send a critical tweet about anyone you admired and cared about though.

Maybe she was showing her integrity with the first tweet? And has been instructed to apologise?

I find the DM article intriguing, considering they were so recently sued by the Duchess of Sussex, they must be pretty confident of that standing up if she issues more writs. And if she doesn’t ...

LinenSheets · 04/03/2021 12:00

You have to wonder what their end game is.

Having failed to be the star show, I think she wants to bring down the RF[/quote]
I agree. I think she does. Perhaps evem the UK as a whole.

OverweightPidgeon · 04/03/2021 12:01

They’re just so dysfunctional so a family like most others then? they represent us but they're all still people with private lives that can be messy at times just like everyone else*

I agree to a point, but a normal family member would be prosecuted if they were a paedophile .

I have always maintained that H&M have no beef with the family itself. HMQE, PC, the cousins etc.

But what was the deal with K & S during the commonwealth?

ShallowCoastalWaters · 04/03/2021 12:04

Makes you question the reason why these allegations were not investigated back in 2018, whether a certain amount of unpleasantness from Royals to staff was just tolerated as part of the culture. Andrew certainly seems to have set a precedent.

I read a book about Charles called Rebel Prince and whilst he was not said to be abusive, his demands were utterly extraordinary. Like if he went to stay with another family as a guest - he literally had all of his own belongings delivered and set up in his room the day before (their furniture moved out if necessary). His own food and drinks delivered with instructions for preparation. For himself, not to be shared. Huge list of requirements. Then at the very last minute he may decide he doesn't want to go - as the light was too beautiful in his own garden to leave.

Did Meghan have a problem with that though? She was happy to join them, will all their wealth and privilege, but not happy it wasn't on her terms.

I think she is a very determined person, highly motivated and she just didn't like the fact that she didn't have top billing in that show, but she did know exactly what she was joining.

Lookingforwardto2021 · 04/03/2021 12:08

@TheCraicDealer

Obvs PA is a special kind of knob and has been for a long time- and that's before we even dig into the Epstein scandal. But a lot of his staff, including his close protection staff, will be ex army. I'm not making excuses for him or minimising his disgraceful behaviour towards staff, but frankly the shit he threw at them was probably not too far from what many would have seen in the course of their Forces careers. You'd know he treats everyone like that, no one (including the press/public) is under any illusions about his personality and you can go and have a moan with your colleagues who he did the same thing to last week.

That's different to the allegations made in 2018 against MM, having "one person in her sights" and the undermining of the confidence of (female) staff who are more likely to be from a corporate work environment where that sort of behaviour doesn't form part of the culture and isn't tolerated. And doing that whilst obstensibly standing up for women and preaching kindness and compassion in public...well, it doesn't really read well does it.

I'm absolutely not making excuses for PA and I hope ALL instances of workplace bullying are fully investigated. I can just see why given the context the bullying allegations against MM have got more traction than those involving PA ever did.

Wow, so it is ok if you are consistently an extremely abusive man, especially to our armed forces?

But if you are a woman who may not get along with one of your staff (and no specific issues have been established) well of course, that’s a serious matter! How dare a mixed race woman in any way be not nice and sweet and grateful to everyone.
Misogyny and racism is very much alive

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 04/03/2021 12:08

As for the allegations of bullying they are just as damaging to the RF as they are to M&H.

GrownUpBeans · 04/03/2021 12:14

However I think many people mistake support for the Queen as a person with support for monarchy as an institution.

Agree. I support the Queen. But when her reign comes to an end I think there should be a public debate about how to go forward. I would favour something like the Irish model. The current debacle is really focusing people's minds on unearned privilege.

cyclingmad · 04/03/2021 12:14

Oh wow you know its desperate when Beatrice is being trotted out to talk about her child and world she wants shin to grow up in.

Entire RF is a huge joke, there is no good side.
