Can anyone recommend a site for inflated helium birthday balloons? Looking to have 4/5 delivered.

I was genuinely interested in what info you’d found OP. It’s hard to convey tone of voice in writing.

I did find articles of my own as you suggest and this is an interesting and fairly in depth read: www.npr.org/2019/11/01/775554343/the-world-is-constantly-running-out-of-helium-heres-why-it-matters

I've ordered 2 oversized helium number balloons for DD's 18th this weekend. They're from Tether & Float and arrive in a huge gift wrapped box, so when she opens it they immediately float up and out. Not cheap, but really good quality x

It would be interesting to see the environmental for a company that sells floating single use plastic litter using a diminishing resource. I know everyone had to make a living but really??

Some people love making shit comments. What's your point?

Do you seriously think I was planning to give some balloons to my son for his 18th? As his actual present Confused

Surely you are not actually serious and just thought you would have a pop but from a 'fresh' angle?

I was going to get a 1 and an 8 and a couple of normal round ones and have them beside the tea party food table not wrap them up and hand them over as a present FGS.

@ohwaitthatwasme

If you've been told helium is finite and that balloons are a waste of resources/money and still choose to buy one that's your prerogative... just don't say you've found alternate evidence that doesn't exist to assuage your guilt

I have not at any point claimed to find alternate evidence, what on earth are you taking about?

You implied it IMO.

@TheDuchessOfBeddington

Is there any point to your post? Read the thread, properly. If you have anything worth saying then please do share it, if not how about you just toddle back off to wherever you came from because its just a bit boring now hearing the same old. Cheers.

When you see a lovely place despoiled with litter, or an animal cruelly wounded, or troops opening fire on civilians, or a forest felled,or plastic rubbish covering the sea, or people setting fires to devastate the earth, or people partying in the middle of Covid19 when hospitals and funeral parlours are overwhelmed, or people who have shot a rare wild animal just because they want to, it can seem hard to understand. I guess those people could explain how harmful, planet-destroying consumption of any consumer goods, especially throwaway fashion or plastic or rare elements, is something they too could easily do, "because they want to"

That is not what has happened on this thread. I took on board the issue of helium as soon as it was pointed out to me. There was no 'I will do it because I want to' from me.

I was trying to explain why people have piled on. You got a bit defensive (and yes did imply you had read evidence to the contrary) and everyone (including you) started getting snarky.

This is the worst part of MN sometimes.

ohwaitthatwasme · 02/03/2021 15:28

I was trying to explain why people have piled on.

I didn't need you to do that. I know why they did. I have been over all of this.

You got a bit defensive (and yes did imply you had read evidence to the contrary)

No I did not. In fact I even said

I absolutely did not claim to have found information to the contrary!!

i have not at any point claimed to find alternate evidence

Blah blah blah.

Multiple times.

Yes I was defensive, of course I was. I will defend myself to the end. That's a perfectly natural thing to do so I don't really see what you are trying to use that against me there.

@ohwaitthatwasme, sorry, no it wasn't directed at you or anyone, just a sort of puzzlement we probably all have at times, when it seems surprising what other people take for granted is perfectly fine, while other people just take it equally for granted it is absolutely out of the question.

Shit present? Nah, really just a bit of frippery for DD. Her actual presents are a 5* week in Grand Canaria with her boyfriend and a Tiffany bracelet, among other bits and bobs. Oh and an afternoon tea delivered from Sketch. So I think she'll overlook the shit balloons Wink

Today's bunfight trivia: the song "99 Red Balloons" is actually about helium balloons accidentally causing World War 3....

I think you've handled this well op.

Our school has banned helium balloons. At first I was a bit 🤨 as the kids love them at open days, end of term/year celebrations, but I completely understand why now. I agree this isn't well publicised. We are also in a huge medical/scientific research community so obviously most other parents understood the implications of this before I did.

Thank you. We're full on spoiling her because she deserves it so much. In the last couple of years she's lost much loved GPs, an uncle, and had to deal with me being diagnosed with early breast cancer last year. She's remained an absolute ray of sunshine throughout Smile
