ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 19:46

Can anyone recommend a site for inflated helium birthday balloons? Looking to have 4/5 delivered.

@Blackcountrychik

You only asked for recommendations for balloons and just about caused ww3 op 😂

Who knew Grin

Honestly just wanted a couple of balloons to brighten up and 18th birthday in lockdown.

If it's any consolation it's the first time I have ever considered buying balloons in 20 years of being a parent to 3 DC 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can get self inflating ones on ebay and amazon prime. I bought individual letters that spell out 'happy birthday' for a few pounds

You could go and look for it, just like I have been.

I just googled 'is there a shortage of helium' and got this (jan 22, 2021 so recent enough?)

www.zmescience.com/other/feature-post/helium-shortage-geology-feature-08082020/

(I got an incongruously cheerful earworm for free as well )

ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 23:07

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Both regarding where to get and why not to get balloons.

I don't mind learning something new, just no need for the nasty element.

AlwaysLatte · 01/03/2021 23:09

Helium balloons are awful. Why not get the type you blow up with a straw from Amazon? We got the same huge numbers we used to get with helium and they looked just as good.

ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 23:09

@ErrolTheDragon

I don't understand your point?

OP posts:
BakewellGin1 · 01/03/2021 23:09

I clearly can't spell tonight due to predictive text....

OP clearly some others are perfect and don't do anything bad for the planet... Ever...

Hope you get sorted x

ErrolTheDragon · 01/03/2021 23:09

just no need for the nasty element.

It's a noble element!

I hope your DD has a lovely birthday, OP.

rabbitholes · 01/03/2021 23:11

@ohwaitthatwasme

Well thank you so much for that 8 year old irrelevant article aimed at making me feel shit for wanting balloons for my DC 18th - what a delight you are. You may be pleased to know I have had a quick google and looked for much more up to date information to base this quandary on
Do you think the amount of helium has increased in the last eight years then Op?
ErrolTheDragon · 01/03/2021 23:11

I did what you suggested and looked, found up to date info and now as a side effect have 'is this the way to Amarillo' as an earworm.

ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 23:12

@rabbitholes

No. I didn't say that or even suggest it. What I said was I was reading more up to date information. Surely that is a good thing, particularly when we are talking about something with a short supply?

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 01/03/2021 23:13

Op, I'm getting a balloon sculpture for my dad's birthday, they are really impressive looking and no helium. Up to you but just another option to consider.

ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 23:13

@ErrolTheDragon

That went so far over my head first time!!

OP posts:
StormcloakNord · 01/03/2021 23:14

OP you can get cheap and nasty balloons if you want - but you came across really awfully there saying you found up to date info contrary to the (fact) that helium is a finite resource and needed for MRI machines, and then when asked about it couldn't produce a single thing...

If you've been told helium is finite and that balloons are a waste of resources/money and still choose to buy one that's your prerogative... just don't say you've found alternate evidence that doesn't exist to assuage your guilt Hmm

fruitpastille · 01/03/2021 23:14

Our local original factory shop sell the number helium balloons. If you can manage to hide them the night before!

I'd love to read your more up to date information.

Meanwhile, here's a song

I absolutely did not claim to have found information to the contrary!! I said I was reading more up to date information to base my decision on. This was a decision I didn't even realise I had to make when I first posted. Maybe if you read my posts properly you will see that despite how it has been presented to me I have listened and said repeatedly that I am reading up on it.

I don't really understand what you mean by this. I'm not claiming to be reading anything other then the information you can also google?

I have not at any point claimed to find alternate evidence, what on earth are you taking about?

OP posts:
waterlego · 01/03/2021 23:21

I think there are lots of ways to celebrate and make birthdays special without helium balloons. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I mean I'd like to read the up to date information you found. Link ?
