Helium filled balloons - delivered?

ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 19:46

Can anyone recommend a site for inflated helium birthday balloons? Looking to have 4/5 delivered.

Did you know that helium is needed for MRI scanners & is a finite resource?

“I will not be happy if I cannot have a medical scan in my 70s, because we wasted helium on party balloons while I was in my 30s.”

I got DS's from Bubblegum Balloons. I'd never used them before because we normally get them locally - but lockdown... Anyway, they were amazing - delivered exactly when they said they would, a really lovely balloon bouquet and have lasted for ages.

Belindabelle · 01/03/2021 22:17

Oh please don’t. Send flowers, chocolates, cake.

ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 22:19

Well thank you so much for that 8 year old irrelevant article aimed at making me feel shit for wanting balloons for my DC 18th - what a delight you are. You may be pleased to know I have had a quick google and looked for much more up to date information to base this quandary on

Why not?

Floating litter and yes, helium is finite. There are things we can have but should not. Life lesson for anyone purporting to care about the world their kids will have. Most parents don't!

Floating litter?

Like I said, I am reading more up to date information regarding helium.

This one from 2019 says we may run out in 25-30 years.

ohwaitthatwasme · 01/03/2021 22:29

Like I said, I have been looking.

In 25-30 years, we'll have suffocated the planet under a layer of disposable masks anyway - I can't get angsty about helium balloons while so many people are not just wearing but actually actively promoting the wearing of single-use masks (rather than cloth reusable ones) which are now littering our planet.

ChameleonClara · 01/03/2021 22:32

The situation re. helium hasn't changed has it?

I'd be happy to read the more up to date info...

You could go and look for it, just like I have been.

I think you're confusing recent reports of a fall in the price of helium consequent to an increase in supply due to newly exploited sources, with there being an infinite amount of the stuff - there isn't. A simple solution to the balloon issue would be for manufacturers to print their balloons the other way up, so they can be hung from the ceiling, rather than floated from the floor, if you see what I mean. Next Nobel prize, here I come!

MyHairNeedsASnip · 01/03/2021 22:40

I thought the stuff used in balloons was a by product and couldn't be used for science...

Anyways, I got one off eBay last week. The box was humongous and is providing more joy than any present.

I'm not confusing anything, what makes you think that?

Have you found a link to an article that claims we now have an inexhaustible supply of helium then? Please share!

No, but equally I didn't suggest that to be the case so I'm not sure what your point here is.
